Term 3Tuesday 25th July - Friday 29th September
Term 4Tuesday 17th October - Wednesday 13th December

From the Principal

We have had a wonderful start to Term 2 with students coming back and settling into their familiar learning routines positively.   This term we have 14 students transitioning into Pre-school and 27 beginning their Reception transition.  Ms. Natasha Marshall will join our staff this week to facilitate the transition visits for our ‘pre-Reception’ students. Natasha will continue with us in Term 3 and 4 as she leads up our new Reception class.

Community Grant

Thank you to Emma Clark, mother of Jenson in Reception, who applied for, and won, an employee community grant through the REA Group on our behalf.  This grant of $1000 will go towards the costs of our recent playground development and we are absolutely thrilled that Emma has gone above and beyond in this way to give back to the school community.

Parent Workshop with Motivate Kids, 17th May

Since 2022, St Joseph’s School has been engaged in a Partners in Practice Project with Motivate Kids Occupational Therapy. This was made possible jointly through a grant from Catholic Education South Australia and our own budgeted commitment to the professional learning of our staff.  Rochelle Mutton, Director and Senior OT, and Jordan Liseno, Senior OT, have been working with our staff and students over this time to ensure our practices and environments are supportive of students’ sensory needs, as well as developing the skills of our students to regulate in their environments to maximise learning and wellbeing.

Rochelle and Jordan will provide an opportunity for parents/caregivers to learn more about the connection between children’s wellbeing and regulation, as well regulation techniques that can be used at home to support behaviour and wellbeing.  This is an excellent opportunity for our families and should not be missed!  Please RSVP as soon as possible via this link if you are able to attend on Wednesday May 17 from 6:30-7:30pm.

Canteen

As communicated prior to the term starting, our canteen is now operating on a Thursday and Friday for lunch orders. Over-the-counter sales of snacks and ice-creams will be available on these days at lunch times, and also at recess times where volunteers are available. Thank you to Maria Fiorenza who is managing the canteen service this term.

Please note, due to lunch items needing to be ordered then collected offsite, lunch orders need to be completed on the QKR app by 11am each Wednesday for the Thursday and Friday service.

This reduced capacity for both food choices and opening times is an interim measure as we continue to explore other viable options for a food service for our students. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Uniform

As it is now Term 2, students should now be wearing the winter uniform.

Please note, on formal uniform days, students should not be wearing a combination of summer and winter items or a combination of sports and formal uniform.  The wearing of the school uniform correctly should be a matter of pride for our students and is an expectation of enrolment at St Joseph’s School.

Mother’s Day Stall this Thursday

Our students will have the opportunity to purchase a lovely gift for the special women in their lives this Thursday in preparation for Mother’s Day on Sunday.  Items will cost between $2 and $6.  A huge thank you goes to the following parent volunteers who have made this event possible – Graziella P, Lori W, Ashleigh D, Loretta D and Caterina V.

Religious Education News

Mother's Day Liturgy

Today, year 3/4AF hosted a Mother’s Day Liturgy. This was a celebration for all our wonderful Mothers, Grandmothers and important female people in our lives. We hope you all have a wonderful day on Sunday spent with your loved ones.

A Mother’s Day Blessing

Blessed is the Mother,

Who lets the Lord

be her guiding hand,

Whose faith brings

her family courage,

Whose wisdom

comes from God,

And whose children

still stand and

honour her.

Project Compassion

Last term we raised money for Project Compassion. Caritas Australia uses these funds to support the communities who are struggling and need urgent funds to help the achieve their developmental goals and build a better future for all. This year’s slogan was ‘For All Future Generations’ and showcased storied from Nepal, Zimbabwe, Vietnam and Australia. We did this two ways – we have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday where students donated a gold coin in return for a pancake, and we sent home Project Compassion boxes to all our families to donate any loose change they had over a 6 week period. It was very pleasing to see the overwhelming support we received from both of these fundraisers.

We raised $306.00 through the Shrove Tuesday pancake Day and $536.40 from the Project Compassion boxes. Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser. I know the money will be used to help vulnerable people.

Laudato Si Week 2023 – Hope for the Earth, Hope for Humanity

Caritas Australia and Catholic Earthcare invites you to an ecological action event online. In 2 hours take 10 actions to care for creation in your home, centred around the themes of energy, nature, waste, food, First Nations peoples, water, transportation, prayer and education. To engage in this event, it would be best to engage on Zoom via phone, iPad, or laptop. Wednesday, May 17th from 4pm, (3:30pm ACST).

OSHC Advisory Committee

We are looking for parents/caregivers to be part of our advisory committee. We meet on the third Tuesday each term at 5:00 pm.

👉 Contact Maria C if you are interested in having an input in decision making for OSHC/Vacation Care.

An Important Message from OSHC

OSHC bookings do not carry over each term. Please remember to book your children in via the SPIKE app.

Vacation care was a huge success, with children being able to engage in a variety of experiences, which included Make My Bear, West Beach Mini Golf, Silent Disco, SA Maritime Museum, and an all-time favourite, The Monarto Zoo. The Farm Barn from Hahndorf also brought some animals which the children were allowed to pet. I have added a small recording of our zoo experience for you to view along with some photos.

If you are thinking of using our service, please come and see me and I can show you what happens at OSHC. We have amazing educators who are skilled in many areas of education and children are exposed to and participate in various programs each week. CCS is available to eligible parents/caregivers.
