A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear families

Here we are at the end of term 4. It feels like term four has flown by!

Our end of year school concert was another successful, if not hot evening! It was terrific to celebrate the Performing Arts with our community. Our students worked hard throughout term four, learning dances and music for the night and are to be congratulated for their commitment and resilience to perform in such trying conditions. Our staff are also to be acknowledged for their role in making the annual event another success. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our school with particular thanks to the Governing Council for cooking the sausage sizzle on the night.

Year 6 farewells

Today, we say farewell to our year six students as they finish their primary school days and transition to secondary school. It has been a privilege to work with each and every one of them, whether its been in the classroom, yard initiatives or through various leadership roles. We wish all of you the very best in your future endeavours and can’t wait to see you do amazing things in your lives.

You will see at this stage that we have some vacancies or staff roles to be confirmed for the 2025 school year. As soon as I am able to, I will confirm staffing arrangements with you. I will ensure that the most suitable staff are available and ready to hit the ground running for the start of the school year.

Students visited their new classes during the week and I was really pleased with their positive attitude and resilience as they embrace a new challenge. It is perfectly normal for students to have feelings of joy, excitement, anxiety, sadness, or maybe even a little fear. It is all part of the process of saying goodbye to what they have known, to step into something that is really new. It is vitally important that we help our children to be optimistic about their future class, the new friends they will meet and the new experiences they have with next year’s teacher. Throughout the class placement process, handover between teachers and early in 2025, our teachers will work hard to ensure that every child has the safe and supportive conditions to thrive in their learning at Hallett Cove East PS.

Staff farewells

Unfortunately, this time of the year is one of uncertainty as we say farewell to a number of staff. To Kendell Baker (Yr1/2), Lucy Cameron (Yr1/2), Heidi Lewis (Rec) and Mariea Burgess (Year 4/5). Each staff member has stepped into a teaching role this year and created a positive and productive learning environment for our children and added really positively to the culture of our school community. Kirsty Gray will leave us after 12 years connected with Japanese here at Hallett Cove East Primary School. She will leave a significant legacy of rich Japanese language and cultural learning and will be missed in our community. We are pleased that she has secured a position in Japanese at another school, not too far away!

We also have two retirements. Firstly to Tania Bailey, our Performing Arts teacher. Tania has been a teacher for more than 45 years which is an outstanding contribution to education. We wish Tania all the very best as she transitions to retirement and her musical pursuits. Gizella Webb will also retire. She has been at Hallett Cove East in a wide variety of teaching roles over many years which has included being a mainstay of our early years classes.  We hope to see Gizella back at school next year in a TRT capacity. Thank you to both Tania and Gizella for your significant contribution to our school community.

 Governing Council

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you for the amazing support of our Governing Council this year, brilliantly led by Amber Pellerin. It is a true privilege to work with a dedicated team of parent representatives who genuinely care about the students and the school community. The feedback, consultation and advice is invaluable to our school and its direction. I encourage more parents to be involved in our Governing Council in 2025. Your perspective is invaluable.

Finally, I would like to wish our school community a happy and safe holiday period. We look forward to seeing you again in 2025 when school resumes.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear HCEPS community,

As we reach the end of an exciting year at Hallett Cove East Primary School, it’s hard to believe that this has been my first year as Deputy Principal. It has been an incredible journey, filled with memorable moments. I am truly blessed to be a part of a such a beautiful school community.

There have been so many highlights throughout the year, one being the Colour Run, where students and staff came together for a fun-filled, vibrant event that brought the entire school community closer. Being slimed was another unforgettable experience—seeing teachers and leaders drenched in slime was a true testament to our school spirit and sense of fun!

Throughout the year, we also hosted the Parent Reading Workshop, which provided valuable insights into supporting literacy development at home. It was wonderful to see so many parents engaged in their children’s learning, further strengthening the home-school partnership.

Book Week was a celebration of reading, imagination, and creativity. Students embraced the theme with enthusiasm, from dressing up as their favourite book characters to participating in various storytelling activities. It was heart warming to witness how our students’ love for reading continues to grow.

Speaking of growth, I am incredibly proud of the progress our students have made this year, particularly in literacy. The hard work and dedication of both students and staff have led to impressive improvements in reading and writing skills, and it has been a privilege to watch our students develop their confidence and abilities.

As we head into the summer holidays, I want to wish everyone in our school community a safe and restful break. Thank you for a wonderful year, and I look forward to seeing what 2025 will bring for our staff, students, and school community. Have a happy and safe holidays! I look forward to seeing you all next year and welcoming our new families who will be joining us in the near future.

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

Deputy Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR WELLBEING LEADER

What a fantastic year it has been in the Wellbeing Space at HCEPS! One of our highlights has been the introduction of The Resilience Project. This program has been a wonderful addition to our school community, helping students embrace gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness (GEM). It’s been heartwarming to hear students share things they are grateful for or reflect on what has gone well in their day.

We are excited to continue with The Resilience Project in 2024, building on the positive momentum we’ve seen this year. To keep the GEM conversations alive over the holidays, you can access the The Resilience Project Parent Hub - https://theresilienceproject.com.au/at-home/home-2023/

It's filled with resources to support wellbeing at home. Please also see 'ten prompts to promote gratitude, empathy and mindfulness'.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our wonderful community. Your ongoing support has been invaluable—from volunteering on excursions and at events, to collaborating with us during whole-school activities, and creating moments that bring joy to our students. Your efforts make a lasting impact, and I’m truly thankful to be part of such a connected and caring community.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a restful break. Let’s recharge and look forward to another amazing year ahead!

Kind Regards,

Ellie Burford
