Prayer

In the same basic image, Jesus identifies himself with the shepherd and the Gate of the sheepfold: ‘I am the Gate of the sheepfold.’ This adds a fresh dimension. If the sheep are to flourish, they must come and go through the gate of the fold; if they stay within the fold, they will decline for lack of pasture. They will be at risk if they do not return to the fold but stay on the hillside all night. So daily, they must come and go through the gate, which becomes their means of access to protection and growth. By describing himself as ‘the Gate of the sheepfold,’ Jesus indicates that the community finds life and growth only through vital and continual interaction with himself.

St Joseph prayer celebration led by Year One

Year One led prayer on Tuesday to celebrate the Feast Day of St Joseph the Worker. Here is what Year One has to say about our patron Saint.

St Joseph was a worker and a father to Jesus. Joseph could also speak through his dreams. In his role as a worker and father we can see that St Joseph was an obedient man. When we think of our school mission statement we are reminded of St Joseph who modelled all of these things: Serve God, Seek Justice, Accept Responsibility and Strive for Excellence.

Preps - St Joseph Workshop

According to the earliest Christian traditions, St Joseph was a carpenter or woodworker. The Gospel of Matthew calls him a “righteous man,” meaning he was an observant Jew who obeyed God’s law. Our Prep students celebrated the Feast day of St Joseph the Worker by creating their own St Joseph’s Workshop.

Janette McLennan APC

This year we are tying the work we have been doing on learner dispositions and the general comments on our report cards.  Reflecting the emphasis we have placed on resilience, reflection and (before the end of this semester) respect, we have decided to consider the following aspects of the dispositions as we make our general comments.

Resilience:

Goal setting and strategic progress

Adapting and persisting when faced with challenges

Working independently

Reflection:

Applying learning to new situations

Describing and communicating thinking

Using feedback in order to improve

Respect:

Working collaboratively

Considering the thoughts and feelings of others

Negotiation and conflict resolution

Obviously, these aspect look very different at different stages of schooling.  To see the expectations that will form part of our judgement, I invite you to look at the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities.
