The Brush Telegraph

Week 1 - Term 4, 2024

Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to Term 4. The year certainly has flown. We hope that all students had a great break and are feeling refreshed. We have a lot planned and we will endeavour to keep you posted on all events happening this term through the newsletters, Facebook and letters home.

INTENSIVE SWIMMING

The Department of Education School Swimming and Water Safety Program is an intensive learn to swim program which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The scheme is conducted over ten days.

This year we will be conducting 2 sessions. The first session will focus on Year 2 and selected Year 3 students, each daily lesson is 45 minutes.

The second session will focus on selected students in Years 4 to 6 who have not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety and survival skills and are unable to swim 25m confidently unaided with correct technique in deep water. The program is conducted over 10 days. Each daily lesson is 45 minutes.

ATTENDANCE

Attending school every day allows your child to get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.

This includes attending school on rainy days, sports carnivals, Fridays and birthdays. Regular school attendance can help expand your child’s learning and create positive relationships with their peers.

If you require support in getting your child ready and motivated for school, please reach out to us.

We would greatly appreciate your participation.

State Athletics

Harlan will be attending the NSW PSSA State Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre next Wednesday and Thursday 23 - 24 October. Harlan will be representing the Hunter Region, after qualifying as the fastest 8 year old boy at the Hunter Athletics Carnival in September. He will be competing in the 100m event. We wish Harlan all the best.

River Concert

We are so excited about the upcoming concert at the Manning River Stage on Friday 25 October featuring a performance by the wonderful Don Spencer, founder of the Australian Children’s Music Foundation famous for his 25-year career on ABC Playschool but also for his huge catalogue of Aussie music for kids. There are many more in the line up including our students, who will also be performing on the night with students from other local schools.

This event is to help support the programs running in our region, all monies raised will go directly to our music programs. On the day there will be raffle tickets sold, drawn on the night for some great prizes. There will be food/ coffee, tea and cold drinks available but no alcohol. Bring your deck chairs and blankets and enjoy a night celebrating our young people and the joy of music at the fantastic Manning River Stage.

Check out the flyer below.

Looking forward to seeing everyone for a great night on the river.

Uniform Shop

Grab a bargain before they are all gone!!

As we will be changing our school uniform within the next year, we are discounting our current stock of Logo polo shirts, navy sport shirts, hats, zipper jackets and teflon jackets. All stock will be reduced to Buy 1 get 1 free. Stock of some sizes is limited, discounts will apply until sold out.

Please place orders through the front office.

School Contribution Charge

A great public school is made great with both the support provided by the Department of Education and the contributions made by the community. Schools also have the ability to enhance their educational and sporting programs by collecting school contributions from parents. This means funding for those extra resources to support programs to enhance the teaching and learning and ultimately the educational outcomes of our students. We have kept the level of voluntary contributions per year to $40 per student or $50 per family, to a minimum to make this contribution affordable to all.

Payments can be made in cash to the front office or by accessing School Bytes. You will find the contribution charge in your "Statement of Account".

Kindergarten Enrolments 2025

2025 Kindergarten enrolments are now due. If you have a child who will be starting next year, please contact the front office. Online enrolments can be accessed through the school’s webpage or the link below.

 https://winghambru-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html

Enrolments and associated documents need to be presented to the office as soon as possible.

The next orientation day is next Wednesday 23 October.

Please see our schedule of events for Orientation Days on the flyer below.

Swap It

SWAP IT is an evidence-based, healthy lunchbox program for primary schools. The program supports parents and carers to SWAP what is packed in their child’s lunchbox from sometimes foods to everyday foods.

The food children consume at school impacts their concentration, health and wellbeing. By improving lunchboxes, we can make a huge difference! The school lunchbox contains approximately one third of a child’s daily energy intake – a significant opportunity to improve nutrition and health outcomes.
