Managing Children’s Use of Devices and Social Media

Many parents struggle with reducing the time their children spend on electronic devices and social media. The Google Family Link app is a good resource to help parents administer their children’s devices and apps. Please click on the following link for more info: https://families.google.com/familylink/#.

Early Years Reading Workshop / Parent Reading Helpers

On Thursday afternoon of week 5, 22nd May, Ms Dovaston and Ms Saua will hold a reading workshop to discuss different strategies that can support your child's reading development in the early years.

Parents from Kindy to year 2 are welcome to attend. It will be at 3.15pm in the Prep classroom. If needed, there will be supervision for children in the library during the workshop. Please let Ms Dovaston or Ms Saua know if you plan on attending so materials can be printed.

Parent Reading Helpers

Thank you to the parents who are coming and listening to reading at the start of the day. We encourage any parents who have time and are willing to help come and support our students by listening to reading.  Please see your child's teacher if you are interested or have any questions about reading.

Year 7/8 Car Wash Trip Fundraiser

The year 7/8 students are getting very excited about their trip to Cairns later this term. To help raise funds for their trip, they are having a car wash on Saturday, 24th May from 9.00-11.30am. This will take place at the front entrance of the school. Drivers will be asked to drive through the double gate near the playground when it is their turn. Other cars can wait in the car park if needed.

There is no set fee for the car wash - people can donate what they wish in exchange for having their car washed. There will also be coffee/drinks available for purchase from the Canteen during this time.

We hope to see you there on Saturday and we thank you for helping us fundraise for our trip.

From Mrs Laien and the year 7/8 students.

Thank you to parents who have again started reading with students at school at the start of each day to help support our reading program. If you would like to help with reading, please see your child's teacher.

Work Ready Program

WRP Trainees were introduced to the Leadership module this week. This module covers the different types of leadership styles that are displayed by individuals performing various leadership roles. The trainees also learn the characteristics, as well as advantages and disadvantages of the different leadership styles.  The next training module will be on Time Management.

Past WRP trainees continue to come to STM on Wednesdays and Fridays to apply for the weekly job vacancies that are advertised. Four of our former trainees attended job interviews on Tuesday this week at STM and all were successful.

A reminder again that towards the end of last year, we put a temporary stop to accepting new Work Ready Program applications and this is still in effect. A Toksave will be sent out by mid-this year announcing when new WRP applications will be accepted.

FODE

FODE program has commenced for this Term and Students are working at their own pace with the guidance and assistance from STM Staff.

Afternoon Remedials / IT / Exam Prep

Monday / Tuesday Remedials, Thursday IT (Computing) and Saturday Exam Prep will continue at STM.
