Binalong Bulletin

Term 2, Week 4 2025

From the Principal

What a busy couple of weeks it has been at our school! Over the last couple of weeks we've celebrated our mums and special women in our lives for a Mother's Day breakfast, we were joined by Sergeant Booth for Walk Safely to School Day, promoting safety and healthy habits within our community. We travelled to Bongongo Public School for our annual cross country event which brought out the emotions and the competitive spirit in our students. We were delighted to host our annual Art Show, where creativity flourished, and we were honoured to have the Director of Educational Leadership join us.

Our preschool students joined us to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime, fostering a love for reading from an early age. A heartfelt thank you to our community volunteers who joined us for the Biggest Morning Tea. Your support enriches our school experience. You truly make a difference!

We also celebrated the arrival of new furniture, enhancing our learning environments. The Year 5/6 students had an inspiring day at the Aspire Higher Leadership event at Murrumbateman Public School building their understanding of leadership, and preparations are underway for our upcoming PLC Shared Learning Day with Bowning and Wee Jasper Public Schools in a couple of weeks.

As we learn about Reconciliation Week, our commitment to building respectful relationships continues to grow.

This week's newsletter features articles written by students in Years 3 to 6. We hope you enjoy their writing!

Lastly, teachers are diligently preparing for semester reports amidst the new Department of Education reporting changes. Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in our school community.

BPS MOTHERS DAY BREAKFAST FEAST

On Friday 9 of May, we had a delicious mothers day Breakie! Everyone was laughing and playing while all the mums were talking and enjoying an extraordinary meal!

We had really scrumptious food and lovely fresh fruit! The mums even got croissants! How lucky are they?!

Mums, grandmas and aunties were all welcome to join the breakfast feast. Kids and students also got a chance to spend time with their loved ones here at BPS!

Our amazing multi tasker principal and teacher, Mrs Arabin, said that it was a huge success, and heaps of fun which of course it was.

It was a morning full of laughing and fun, and of course, yummy snacks!

  • Provide opportunities for students and teachers to deliver high-quality performances in professional venues.
  • Create positive, lasting memories with an original and entertaining event.

Yass Rotary Thank You

On Thursday 1 May, I was visited by Yass Rotary members Sue Harding and Meg Laubmn, who shared their goals for supporting swimming programs for children in the Yass area, along with providing a $500 donation to the school to provide economic support to families to assist with school activities. Thank you to the Yass Rotary group for your continued support for our school.

THE AMAZING NIGHT OF THE ART SHOW

On Friday 9th of May all the students came to the night of the art show at 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

The moon was bright and the stars were shining, the votes were being cast, and the competition was on, but the kids were  having fun but still competitive, and eager to know  who the six winners were, as well as the best photograph of a pet. We were also joined by Ms Couvee, Director of Educational Leadership Yass Network.

Evie, our AMAZING friend, said, "I get inspired by everyone's creativity in art".

All the students were so happy for their peers. It didn't matter if they won or not because they were all winners in some sort of way.

National Walk Safely to School Day

THE AMAZING WALK-TO-SCHOOL DAY

On Thursday 15 of May we gathered around the giant Mechanics Institute. When we started to walk to school the people who had bikes had to go at the front so they didn't run into any one.

Nearly the whole school was there. When we passed the people who went walking and one of the students said, “We're gonna beat you there”. We also learned some safety tips on the way to school. Nat the police officer helped us with the safety tips on the way to school.

FUN FACT

We did not beat them to school

Aspire Higher - Year 5/6 Leadership Day

Students in Year 5 and Year 6 were invited to attend a Student Leadership Workshop “Aspire Higher” at Murrumbateman Public School. Aspire Higher is an engaging leadership and resilience training specifically designed for Year 5 and Year 6 students. They participated in some high impact sessions about leading with or without the badge; knowing me, growing me; and engaged in dynamic activities, whole cohort team building, servant leadership themes, initiative and problem-solving activities.

Students had a wonderful time and have already begun to plan their next leadership activities.
Thank you to Mrs Beasley and the Murrumateman team for supporting our attendance.

Bongongo Cross Country

Staff were blown away by the spirit and support students demonstrated on the day. Many students were observed reaching out with supportive high fives to each other even when tackling the challenging incline themselves!

Congratulations to Tyahn, Braxton, Ian, Evie E,  Zavier, Thomas and Audrey who travel to Harden on Friday to represent the school at District Cross Country.

Thank you to the wonderful bus drivers Max and Ali for getting us there safely and to the Binalong Brahmans and Murrumburrah High School for providing transport. We would also like to thank Mr Gorman and the Bongono PS team for hosting the wonderful event and to their P&C for their incredible canteen!

Biggest Story Volunteer Tea!

On Wednesday the 21st May Binalong had a very busy day with Volunteer Week, National Simultaneous Storytime and the Biggest Morning Tea!

We started off the day with many volunteers coming like; the Lions Club, VRA, RFS, P&C, Breakfast Club volunteers, CWA, Brahmans RLFC, and Binalong Community Club members, to tell us about their work and how they help the community. Then some of the kids shared their letters with the volunteers that they chose. Everyone was amazed at all the work they do to help our community!

The preschool came to join us, we had the Biggest Morning Tea, we all got a sweet treat and had fun. The volunteers also had their BEAUTIFUL sweet treats that everyone made. Thank you to everyone that made one and brought it in.

The VRA brought in their VRA truck and Ben Spencer showed us their awesome equipment and even let us have a little go of moving a plastic cup filled to the brim with water, without spilling it! Everyone loved it!

Audrey Corcoran, a participant of the forensic science workshop, said, ‘The STEM classes are very fun and interesting, and I love learning about forensic science.’ All our Binalong students are really enjoying the fascinating courses of the VSA.

Virtual STEM Academy has been very enjoyable, and also really educational. I’m sure students will love doing it now and into the future.

Tri-Tag Rugby Clinics with Reilly

K-6 have been learning how to play tri tag with Reilly from the ACT Brumbies. We learnt how to play lots of fun games on the school oval.

Reilly was so fun and he was really supportive especially when we got hurt. It was so fun as well as though but we pushed though.
