Well done to Room 11 who presented such an amazing assembly, showcasing their learning in Talk 4 Wring and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. For Pre-Primary they were such amazing public speakers and certainly set a high standard for us all to follow. Once again, I was blown away by all the amazing work of our students and was privileged to acknowledge this through our merit awards.
It is with sadness that we farewell our wonderful Education Assistant in Kindergarten, Isla Madson and welcome Mrs Diana Cure who will be joining this room. We also welcome two other Education Assistants, who have already settled into our school and are doing wonderful things with our students. Welcome to Mrs Fong Lieu and Miss Lily Reid. We are still on the lookout for cleaners to join our team and if you know of anyone who may be interested in this role, please direct them to our front office.
All reports K-6 will be emailed using the email address we have on file. If you wish to have a hard copy, please email newman.ps@education.wa.edu.au as soon as possible. Remember, the link you have been emailed will be ‘live’ for four weeks, so download for future reference.
Attendance comment in reports
Student reports will include an attendance comment which clearly states the WA Education Department’s view on the impact of student attendance on learning. This percentage is based upon student attendance at the end of Week 6, Term 2; so it may have altered since that time. The following wording has been adapted from the Department documents and coloured sections may be utilised.
96 - 100% | <N> should be commended on <p> exemplary attendance. This has provided <o> with optimum learning opportunities this semester. |
90 -95% | <N> has had satisfactory attendance this semester. This has given <o> the best opportunity to be a successful student. |
80 -89% | <N's> attendance of less than 90% has placed <o> at risk of not accessing optimal learning opportunities and meeting <p> educational potential. |
0– 79% | <N's> attendance of less than 80% has placed <o> at high risk of not accessing the optimal learning opportunities and meeting <p> educational potential. |
We had a very successfully learning Journey evening on Tuesday. Thank you to all the families that came along to share their son/daughter(s) amazing work throughout the year. The students did an amazing job sharing their progress and work in classrooms. Thank you to our teachers for all their hard work in preparing the students and thank you to the P&C for providing scrumptious dinner options for the evening.
We know many families have been helping to promote reading through the Premiers Reading Challenge. As a school we are using this medium to focus on the importance of reading. If you have not done so, I encourage you to sign up and share the joy or reading with your family. If you need assistance or would like the classroom teacher to help sign in please contact them. Reading is one of the biggest predictors of success for our students and we are proud of what our readers have achieved already with the challenge (see table below).
Reading Challenge by year level so far:
Year 1 | 89 books |
Year 2 | 144 books |
Year 3 | 275 books |
Year 4 | 86 books |
Year 5 | 166 books |
Year 6 | 148 books |
As a school we were really privileged to help raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research as this has strongly impacted our community. Well done to everyone on the day for wearing pink and donating to this worthy cause.
We appreciated all the parent survey responses to our ‘School Culture Survey’ and will be sharing snippets of this each newsletter. The graph below represents responses related to Teaching Quality. Whilst all areas are positive, there are always areas for improvement. As a staff we have looked at these and discussed ways we can improve moving forward.
