Felixstow Highlights

Student School Value Awards

In Ban Ba Ban Bayla this week, eleven students and the whole Juniors' class received an award for displaying the school values of respect, responsibility and compassion or showing one or more of the attributes of the six global competencies (6 C's); character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. Well done to the following students; Daniel, Aziza, Varni, Lidi, Jaiveer, Aiden, Adelaide, Leah, Zahara, Thomas, Tanatswa and all the Juniors.

Juniors with Sharni & Sarah

Our Junior class have been buzzing with creativity and enthusiasm! They have been thoroughly enjoying dramatic play in the salon, taking on roles as stylists and customers, which has sparked their imaginations and social skills. At the tinkering table, they have been problem-solving and figuring out how to fix broken items. Additionally, they have been designing superhero masks, neighbourhoods, and more. These activities are not only fun but also foster critical thinking and collaboration.

The Juniors also hosted their first Ban Ba Ban Balya for the year. They were actively involved in deciding what they wanted to share, and many volunteered to be speakers. We are incredibly proud of their success and their courage to step up and present in front of the school, as well as parents and friends. Congratulations to our Juniors for a job well done!

Laura and Leigh's Class (P1)

Hello everyone,

It has been wonderful to spend some extra time with P1 over the last week. Maths: We have been building our measurement skills, working on length, width and perimeter. The next week will focus on transferring these skills to measuring area. Literacy: Students have been hard at work building their fluency and stamina for reading. They have also been creating a new chapter of a mentor text, aiming to re-create the style of Fox by Margaret Wild. Inquiry: The students have been creating a representation and description of their experience on what it means to be a good human. Please make sure you check in with your child about Week 10, as we would love to see you all at the Learning Expo on Tuesday where your child can share what they have been working on with you.

Steve's Class (P2) News

In P2 we have been measuring shapes in our classroom, counting squares and tracing edges to uncover both the area and perimeter of rectangles and more complex figures. We’ll deepen this investigation by exploring real-life spaces—like school gardens or classroom layouts—and apply our understanding of area and perimeter in practical challenges. We have also been busy drafting polished information reports and reflecting on the learning process. We are showing our findings by creating bright, informative posters and carefully labelled scientific drawings. These visuals helped us communicate our thinking clearly and demonstrate our drawing skills. We are also working hard at developing the Felixstow Museum to show our Inquiry learnings on what it means to be a good human. Lots of creative thought is going into our artifacts, and with some hard work, we should be all ready for the Learning Expo at the end of term.

PE and Health with Leigh

Our Ultimate Frisbee unit came to an end last week. Across the school, we played a range of small skill based games, before our primary students played an adapted version of Ultimate Frisbee. In health, we have had a continued focus on building relationships in all year levels and have been looking at the qualities that make a good friend.

Resource Pod - Library News

The Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premiers Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004. Its aims to encourage children to read more books, to improve literacy skills and to just enjoy reading. The challenge requires children to read 12 books from the start of the school year until early September. Children who complete the challenge are then awarded a certificate or medal depending on the number of years they have participated. For more information see the attached brochure or go to the Premier’s Reading Challenge website: https://premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/

The final day of the Challenge is Wednesday 3rd September in Term 3, week 7. Record sheets must behanded in to Kelly, Gillian or your child's class teacher no later than this date and can be handed in any time before if the student has completed the Challenge. Awards are given to students who have completed the Challenge (once the school has received them) at a Ban Ba Ban Bayla in Term 4.

Breaktime Activities

The Resource Pod is now open for one breaktime a day, offering students a variety of activities to participate in or just a safe space to relax and read a book. We will be holding some themed sessions in the near future and welcome any suggestions the students may have.

Borrowing/Returning Books

Students have the opportunity to borrow books from the Resource Pod during scheduled class times and when the Pod is open at break times. All books are on loan for two weeks and the due date can be found on a slip attached to the inside back cover of the book or on a book mark. Please return the books by the due date or before if finished, as other students may be waiting to borrow them.

Scholastic Book Club

Thank you to those families who have purchased books from Scholastic Book Club this term, they have earned the school $52 in rewards points which will be used to purchase books for the library.

Thank You

A special thank you to Casey (Oliver's mum) for covering newly purchased books for the library.
