Term 3 is shaping up to be another exciting and busy term for our students and families, with many wonderful opportunities for learning, community engagement, and celebration.
We have already enjoyed a fantastic Trivia Night, hosted by our P&C, which raised valuable funds for our school. It was a wonderful evening, and I would like to sincerely thank the P&C committee for their hard work and dedication in organising such a successful event.
Our Breakfast Program is now up and running, with around 40-45 students choosing to enjoy a cheese toastie and fruit each morning. This initiative not only ensures our students begin the day with a full tummy, ready to learn, but also provides a valuable opportunity for them to connect with staff and start the day in a welcoming, supportive environment.
This week also marked the beginning of our annual Puffing Billies program, with a large group of future Kindergarten students joining Mrs Hookham each Tuesday morning. It is always a delight to welcome these young learners and support them as they begin their transition to school.
On Thursday, 6 August, we will celebrate Public Education Week with our annual Open Day. This is always a highlight of the year, and we look forward to welcoming families into our classrooms. The day will include presentations of two special awards, a visit from a former student who will return as our Alumni guest speaker, performances from our dance troupes, open classrooms, an art show, and a sausage sizzle. Funds raised through the art show and sausage sizzle will help support families with the costs associated with the Stage 3 excursion.
Book Week is just around the corner in Week 5, and I am already looking forward to dressing up for our annual parade on Friday, 21 August. This year's theme promises plenty of creativity and fun. Families will also have the opportunity to purchase books during the week.
We are continuing to improve communication with families by ensuring all school events are added to the Parent Portal Calendar, making it easier to stay informed and plan ahead. We also share The Week Ahead each week through Audiri and Facebook to keep everyone updated on upcoming events.
Student learning remains at the heart of everything we do. This term we have introduced several new intervention programs for students in Kindergarten to Year 2 to further support literacy and numeracy development. Our Learning and Support team has also been working diligently to implement the Department of Education's new Individual Learning and Support Plans. We look forward to collaborating with families in the coming weeks as these plans are developed and refined to best meet the needs of our students.
There has also been plenty happening in our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) programs. The Game Changer program continues to engage students in challenging and enriching learning experiences, while a number of students will soon participate in the ICAS assessments. Our teachers have also been undertaking professional learning focused on extending students within the classroom, with a particular emphasis on writing. This combination of targeted classroom extension and extracurricular opportunities ensures we continue to challenge and support our high-potential learners.
