Kaya, Parents & Community Members,

My thanks to families who helped us celebrate “100 Days of School” last week – look out for photos in today’s Newsletter.  There are a number of other events / dates scheduled for this term for parents / carers / families to be involved, this includes an exciting (sponsored) incursion for our Year 2 to 5 children who will get to see the Spare Parts production of “Blueback” later this term.  Please check the Term Planner and keep an eye on your Connect notifications for further information in relation to Book Week, the Learning Journey and athletics events.

Finally, make sure you sign your children up for the Education Minister’s Running Challenge and be involved in the “Perth Running Festival”.  I would fully expect that all our students would smash the challenge and be invited to the festival celebration following the conclusion of the challenge.   The festival commences on Monday – don’t miss out!

Boola Bardip

On Thursday 29 June, Room 11 and 12 visited the WA Musuem Boola Bardip. While we were there, we learned a lot about the Aboriginal Culture. In our groups, we had to complete a quiz where the answers were hidden throughout the museum. There were a lot of interesting artefacts to see, and we all had a fabulous time exploring the museum. After lunch, we went to a workshop. We played a game where we needed to greet people in the ways of different cultures. This was very funny. Following this, a guide took us around the museum. He told us some of the Dreaming stories and the traditional life of the Aboriginal People. This was such a fun excursion!

Kaboom

We enjoyed an inspiring, impressive and funny performance by Kaboom Percussion! Talented musicians, Cat and Josh showed us instruments they had made from PVC pipe, buckets, tin cans, bottles, chairs and other recycled materials. Room 12 was lucky enough to have Josh come and listen to them practising one of Kaboom's compositions, called Going Home. We have plenty of ideas for our term 3 and 4 music making - thank you, Kaboom!

State Theatre and Art Gallery of WA

On Wednesday 19th July students in Rooms 5 and 6 had a fantastic day out, visiting the State Theatre of WA and the Art Gallery of WA. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Barking Gecko Theatre's performance of The Snow written by playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer. In the play, an epic snowfall imprisons the residents of the tiny village of Kishka so young Thea Sutton proposes that the villagers build a catapult to fling her and the village’s bravest and strongest out in search of a solution. Ava’s favourite character was Thea because even though she was just a kid, she was brave. Isla noted that, every once in a while, the room would go completely dark.

At the Art Gallery, we were grateful for the knowledgeable volunteer tour guides who shared so much interesting information about the artworks. Both Isla and Ava noted that their favourite piece of art was the big landscape painting called, target.

Thank you to the amazing parent volunteers who attended!

Bee Incursion

UnBEElievable Bee Incursion

On Friday, 21st July, students from Rooms 1, 2, 7 and 8 participated in a Bee Incursion coordinated by Buzz Ed Australia. Through the interactive incursion, Luke shared his journey and knowledge with students from Glengarry, inspiring them to be more aware of the importance of bees in our environment. The incursion provided exciting new learning and vocabulary, as well as a variety of hands-on activities, concluding with a group Q&A. A special thank you to all the parent volunteers who assisted. The incursion would not have worked so effectively without your busy-bee helping hands!

100 Days of School

Hope Group

What’s been happening….

Room 6, Room 9 and Room 5 planted native seedlings for Tree Month. They had to dig out some thick grass then be very careful with the tiny roots. Tree guards will help to keep the plants safe and if we get some dry weeks, watering will be needed. Well done enviro- warriors! You really did a great job.

Also, one of the items we carefully collected for recycling was batteries. We had a big bin-full in the library. There used to be a service to collect these bins from us but unfortunately the service stopped.

Alister M, Niamh and Connor 's Dad, has kindly taken the batteries from the Library and disposed of them at Stirling Recycling Centre. Thank you Alister!

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.
