It has been another really busy term. Full of fun activities, lots of improvement work and high quality teaching and learning.
Equity and Excellence
Last week we held a fantastic Reconciliation Week. This newsletter is full of information about the week we had. Enjoy reading through those pages.
Effective Learners
We continue to focus on the metacognition and regulation aspect of being an effective learner. Our school expectation of “Come to school prepared to Learn” has been a focus throughout the term. We have also been talking about stamina, which can be described as our ability to focus on the learning task at hand.
Learner Agency
Similarly, we have been focusing on students having agency in their learning. This means we would like them to develop a sense of responsibility for their learning. We have been working on students understanding where they are at, particularly with their phonics and spelling, but also with their maths. We are encouraging them to set goals for their learning and to reflect on what they have learnt each day. It would be great if you could support us in this by asking them about their learning experiences at school. Some possible questions could include:
What did you learn today?
What did you learn in maths?/ What are you doing in maths at the moment?
Are you better at Maths or English? Which do you find easier and why?
Wellbeing
We continue to work hard to ensure that expectation 3 is met. Everyone has a right to feel and be safe.
Alongside this we work to build student social and emotional skills. When things do go wrong in the yard, for example, we encourage students to address this in a restorative manner and consider their values when making decisions about their behaviour and or possible consequences.
We have recently conducted our Wellbeing and Engagement survey with students and we will be interested in the results. These results guide some of the work we do in Wellbeing.
Other news:
The Bowling Club is about to undergo some upgrades to one of their greens. This is fantastic news for the Bowling Club as they have been working on this project for a long time. However, it will have an impact on our ability to use the back car park which belongs to them.
Once the work starts it would be fantastic if people could increase their use of the Kiss and Drop for the time being as there will be several trucks, etcetera entering and exiting the space and thus, limiting our access. Indeed, the usual entrance to the Bowling Club (first left turn into the carpark) will not be accessible. You will be able to access school via Lae Road, which runs past the swimming pool, turn left and park at the back near the vines. However, this parking will be limited. For those with older children, I ask that you use the kiss and drop leaving parks available for those with junior primary children.
I will let people know when this work is about to start. Fortunately for us, it will go into the holidays and things will be back to normal for the start of Term 3.
Parent Workshops
Our Workshop last Thursday was very interesting with many helpful strategies for building resilience in children. Why not come along to the session tonight? There are volunteer babysitters to mind your child(ren) while you tune in!
Transition
We have started our transition program and Mandy McGorman has welcomed brand new Kindy students into her classroom. They will be starting in term three in the inaugural year of the midterm enrolments process. See below a couple of Flyers which can't guide you. And on your friends or family members. On when young children should be starting school. Please get in touch if you feel uncertain about when your child should start school and or. If you'd like to discuss any enrolments.
