Principal's Message

P&C 2024

Our school has long had the support of a vibrant and pro-active P&C committee. They have led fundraising initiatives (like last week’s trivia night and the current mango fundraiser) and operated our school canteen with great dedication and care.

In 2024, several of our long-serving and dedicated leaders are stepping down due to changes in their personal circumstances which will impact their capacity to participate in P&C. We will need existing members or new members to step up and join our P&C, taking on some of these roles. With today’s newsletter, we have attached a document which outlines the leadership roles on the P&C and would encourage any parents with a little time to serve to consider nominating for a position.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with any interested parents wishing to know more about P&C and the leadership roles within it. Please give some consideration to joining this fabulous group of people and contact me at school if you have any questions about the roles listed. The Annual General Meeting to determine new leaders is scheduled for  Tuesday 14 November.

 Stage 3 Excursion

Last week, approximately 90 Stage 3 students and their teachers headed to Canberra for a 3-day overnight excursion. Overnight excursions like this one, provide wonderful and unique opportunities to take learning outside of the classroom, and as we know, there are loads of great learning opportunities in our nation’s capital. For their part, the teachers have reported that student’s engagement with learning, their manners and behaviour was outstanding throughout the excursion and that they represented our school very well – Well done students.

I also sincerely thank the teachers – Mrs Gillard, Miss Nichols, Mrs Webb, Mr Moore, Mr Simon and Mrs Malloch who willingly gave up time away from their own children and families to support our students on this excursion. We will have some photos to share of their experience in next week’s newsletter.

Kindergarten Orientation

Also last week, I had the privilege of welcoming 45 new Kindergarten students and their families to Lambton PS for the first Kindergarten Orientation visit. It is always lovely to meet and welcome new children to LPS. Next year’s Kindergarten group look like another unique and lively group. We look forward to getting to know them all a little bit better during the next 2 orientation visits.

School Locker online platform

We were informed this week that in preparing for the arrival of the new school uniform later this term, the School Locker have opened their online platform for any families wishing to place pre-orders. If this is your first time accessing the online platform, you might like to set up a School Locker account ready for future purchases. Of course, there will be opportunities for families to try on the new uniform once it arrives at the School Locker’s local retail outlet at the University of Newcastle. Please note: there is no new uniform stock just yet.   Click here to visit the online platform

2024

Planning is now well underway for the 2024 school year. To assist us in our planning, it would assist us with decision making to know early of any students that will be leaving LPS at the end of 2023. If your child is leaving, please call or email our school office to let us know.

Have a great week!

Grandparents Day

We look forward to welcoming our students’ Grandparents to Lambton Public School on Tuesday for Grandparents Day. Activities will take place between 10:30am -12:00pm  depending on the ages of the children with a focus on open classrooms. The schedule is as follows:

10:30 am - 11:00 amOpen classrooms for K-2 classes only
11:00 am - 11:30 amMorning Tea/ Recess with grandparents (whole-school)
11:25 amSchool band performance under the top cola
11:30 am - 12:00 pmOpen classrooms for 3-6 classes only

By having two separate open classroom sessions, we are hoping to make it easier for grandparents with children in multiple grades, to be able to visit them.

  • If there are any grandparents with grandchildren only in Years 3-6 they are welcome to arrive at 11:00am for recess and then participate in the 3-6 visits at 11:30am.
  • Conversely, grandparents with grandchildren in K-2 only are welcome to arrive at 10:30 am and can leave after recess at 11:30 am.
  • Tea & Coffee will be available to purchase at the Canteen together with a small selection of cakes and slices.

Please note: if your child’s grandparents are unable to attend, other family members are welcome to attend in their place for classroom visits and recess.

Student Achievement

Ella Morris (6N) recently competed, using her race runner, in the 100m multi-class event at the State Carnival at Olympic Park, Sydney. This is a huge achievement as Ella only began competitive race-running at our school Athletics carnival earlier this year.

Ella ran a qualifying time at our carnival and progressed to the Zone Carnival which she said was 'nerve-racking, but also exciting". Ella ran a personal best time at the Zone Carnival and said she felt ''suprised and ecstatic" when she found out that she had again , achieved a personal best time to qualify for the regional carnival.

At the regional event Ella raced against other multi-class athletes and placed second. She received a medal and was informed of her inclusion in the state team to compete at Olympic Park, Sydney.

Ella placed 24th in ther state event and looks forwrd to continuing her training and trying to improve on her result in the future.

Congratulations and well done Ella !!

200 Nights Reading

The Home Reading program continues to be an important and valued initiative as part of the school’s attempt to instil a love of reading in our students. The following students achieved the 200 night milestone over the holidays and will receive a Principals Award certificate at tomorrow morning's assembly and be invited to a special pizza lunch with Mr Holland at the end of Term 4. Congratulations :

It is never too late to start reading for 10 minutes per night.

As a reminder for parents, please see the home reading rewards below. We would love as many students reading as regularly as possible.

P & C AGM - 14 November

The P&C has their AGM in Week 6 of this term (Tuesday 14 November).  At this meeting all positions are declared vacant. A large proportion of the executive will not be returning and we are looking for fresh faces and new ideas!
No P&C means no access to fund raised money, no events/ fun for our children and LPS Eats would go out to tender and cease to exist. We need you!
Nominations are open now. Please contact the P&C via FB messenger or
lambtonpspandc@gmail.com for more information or to submit your nomination.
