Principal's Message - Kim Fraser

This year, CPS celebrates its 60th birthday! To mark this special milestone, we’re planning a fantastic evening of celebration, and we’d love you to be part of it.

We’ll be combining the CPS 60th Celebration with our Learning Journey on Tuesday 21 October from 4:30–7:30pm. The event will include: Open Classrooms, Silent Art Auction, Music, including performances by our wonderful CPS Orchestra and Choir, Raffles, Memorabilia Displays, Food Trucks and much more. More details will be shared soon, but make sure you pop the date in your calendar, it’s shaping up to be a night to remember! A big thank you to our staff and the P&C/parent volunteers on the organising committee for helping bring this event to life.

We all send Lucy McNamara, our Room 16 teacher, all the very best as she takes a break from CPS to take on the wonderful world of parenthood. We wish Lucy and her partner, John, all the very best.

Wednesday night, I was privileged to watch two of our amazing year 6 students participate in the Cambridge Rotary Four Way Speech Test Competition. Naomi Chen and Lachlan Paradiss presented their speeches to six district public schools, which included students, principals, teachers, and families, as well as members of the Cambridge Rotary Club.  The student’s topic for their speech needed to cover four questions:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICAL to all concerned?

Naomi and Lachlan were exceptional. It is such a great opportunity in gaining valuable experience in public speaking for the students. Very big thank you to Mr O’Mara and Mr Flemming for assisting and coaching Naomi and Lachlan with their speeches and the process of public speaking.

We’re starting to plan class structures and enrolments for 2026. If your child will not be returning to CPS, we’d really appreciate it if you could let us know as soon as possible. This helps us make accurate staffing and class arrangements to support every child’s learning.

We’re excited to announce that the extension of our undercover area is now finished! While weather delays did slow things down, the new space will make a big difference for assemblies, school events, and lunchtime seating. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support and generosity of our P&C community, thank you!

Exciting Infrastructure Updates: CPS has received approximately $1.7 million in government funding for several important upgrades:

  • A signalised crossing on Pearson Street
  • Upgrade and reconfiguration of the gravel parking and Kiss and Drop area
  • Reverse cycle air-conditioning for the library

A huge thank you to Christine Tonkin, former local MLA, who has been a passionate advocate for CPS and continues to support infrastructure improvements to keep our school safe and functional. We are awaiting further direction from the government regarding timelines and planning. Once we have more information, we will bring together a community group to help shape a strategic plan for road safety and access around the school.

After School Reminder – Respecting Learning Spaces. We understand that after school is a lovely time to connect with other families, and we really value that sense of community. However, we kindly ask families to leave the school grounds by 3:20pm.

Our teachers use this time to plan, meet, and prepare for the next day, and it becomes very challenging when students remain around classrooms. Just as most adults need a quiet office space to do their work, our staff need the same.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Compass Communication - Term 3

Good afternoon parents and families, and welcome to the new term! Term 3 brings a shift to the CPS parent communication environment, with us embarking on the next stage of the Compass student management and communication system.

Already this term you may have noticed that our excursion permissions have been communicated through the new Compass app, as was explained last term.

While we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate the problems that arise with using a new system, it has also been great to hear the positive feedback regarding an easier and streamlined process when providing the permission for our excursions and incursions.

As we move further into this next phase, please note that we will also be shifting to sharing our whole-school communications from the Audiri app to the Compass app to further improve the streamlining of our school communications. These additions to the Compass functionality come on top of the roll-out of attendance notifications throughout term 2.

Compass Communication Scope – Term 3

  • Attendance notifications

  • Excursion/Incursion permissions

  • School Calendar

  • Whole-school messaging

With this transition occurring over the next few weeks, please take this time to make sure that you have downloaded and logged into the Compass app using the invite shared by email last term.

If you are having trouble accessing CPS through the Compass app, need a new invite, or simply have further feedback to help us improve the experience, please do not hesitate to contact the CPS office.

More parent information on the Compass system can also be found on the school website. https://www.churchlandsps.wa.edu.au/compass-school-management-system/

Kind Regards
