Rozelle Public School Newsletter

TERM ONE WEEK NINE

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.

BUSY END OF TERM

As we approach the end of term, it’s been a busy time for both staff and students! Our Year Two and Three students are currently enjoying a two-week swim school at Cook and Phillip Aquatic Centre, expertly coordinated by Desiree Ronsen. Teachers have already noticed significant improvements in our students' water confidence and swimming skills, which is fantastic to see.

Next Friday, our Year Five students will embark on an exciting three-day outdoor education camp at Stanwell Tops. This camp is a highlight of the year for many, offering students a chance to collaborate and tackle a variety of fun activities and challenges. A big thank you to Ella Gubb, Abbie Walker, and Alison Taylor for accompanying our students and helping to create what promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Finally, we will wrap up the term with our annual Easter Hat parade! The entire school will take to the footpaths of Darling Street on Friday 11 April to showcase their creative millinery. If you haven’t yet experienced the joy of a Rozelle Easter Hat parade, we warmly invite you to join us for this festive end of term celebration

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

In response to valuable community feedback and discussions with our teachers, we have made some adjustments to the dates for Parent-Teacher Interviews. The interviews will now be held at the beginning of Term Two. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to connect with teachers, discuss student progress, and explore ways to support learning at home. We will open the online booking system for parents before the end of this term. We look forward to your participation and encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity!

YEAR SIX CANBERRA TRIP

Our Year Six students will return this afternoon from an exciting three-day adventure in Canberra! After an early start on Wednesday, they kicked off their trip at Parliament House, where they experienced the hustle and bustle of a sitting Parliament. Unfortunately, they were unable to meet our local member, who just happens to be the Prime Minister, as he was very busy following the previous evening's budget announcements.

The itinerary also included visits to Questacon, the Australian Institute of Sport, and the Australian War Memorial, all of which were memorable experiences for the students.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Alden Kwok, Clare Rolland, Abbie Walker and Tara Bryant for accompanying our students and helping to create wonderful memories in their final year at Rozelle.

WEARING SCHOOL UNIFORM

Students are requested to wear their full school uniform every day. Wearing our uniform not only fosters a sense of belonging and school spirit, but it also reflects our commitment to maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment.

When students wear their uniform, they contribute to a sense of unity and identity within our school community. It helps create a school where everyone feels included and valued. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that all students come to school dressed in their full uniform each day!

SPOTLIGHT ON MUSIC

Did you know that Rozelle has two dedicated specialist music teachers? Jen McLachlan (K-2) and Caris Doyle (3-6) are both experienced educators and talented musicians. Throughout the year, all students will have the opportunity to participate in music lessons, where they will explore a variety of musical styles and develop their skills. We are excited to see our students engage with music and enhance their creativity under the guidance of these wonderful teachers!

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

I would like to emphasise the critical role that regular school attendance plays in your child's educational success. Maintaining an attendance rate above 85% is essential for several reasons:

  • Academic Achievement: Consistent attendance allows students to engage fully in lessons, participate in discussions, and build essential skills. Each day of learning is a piece of the puzzle that contributes to their overall understanding and academic performance.

  • Social Development: School is not just about academics; it's also a place for social interaction. Regular attendance helps students develop friendships, build teamwork skills, and foster a sense of community.

  • Preparation for the Future: Good attendance habits are crucial for future success, whether in further education or the workplace. It instils a sense of responsibility and commitment that will serve them well throughout their lives.

We encourage all parents and caregivers to support their children in attending school regularly. If you have any concerns about your child's attendance, please feel free to reach out to us. Together, we can ensure that every student at Rozelle has the opportunity to thrive.

EASTER HAT PARADE - FRIDAY 11 APRIL

A long held tradition at Rozelle Public School is the Annual Easter Hat Parade along Darling Street to be held on Friday 11 April at 9:15am. Children are encouraged to create a decorated hat for the parade with some help at home. Remember not to spend too much money on materials – the best hats are those made from reused and recycled materials. You could even recycle parts of an old Easter Hat! Students and staff will parade up and down Darling Street before returning to the school playground for a final parade around the asphalt area. Parents are welcome to line the route to cheer us along.

NUT AWARE
A number of students at Rozelle have been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy to nuts. While it is not advised for the school to declare itself “nut-free” we are definitely a “nut-aware” school. This means that we ask parents/carers to carefully consider the food they provide for their child and avoid foods that contain nuts. Before sending in food for special occasions for your child’s class, please check with the teacher. The school appreciates everyone’s effort in keeping all our students safe and supporting their families to manage this difficult situation.
