It has been a busy and engaging start to Term 2. The best parts of the term so far have been involving events which have brought so many parents, carers, and families on school site. These included a morning tea for our 2024 student leaders and their families, the athletics faction carnival, Deadly Ladies’ morning tea and the Year 3/4 class assembly. The school also ran an afternoon of activities to celebrate Harmony Day which was led by our wonderful chaplain, Ms Jen. We held our own ANZAC Service which was a sombre and respectful ceremony highlighting the importance of remembering those that have fort and are still fighting for us to live under a peaceful sky. We still have lots of exciting events coming up with attendance rewards, incursions/excursions, the Year 2/3 assembly and Semester 1 Reports to be sent home in Week 11.
Attendance
The last two weeks of attendance has seen a positive jump into the high 70% range across the school. Our overall attendance rate so far this term is 74.2%. This means that on average, our students are absent up to 1.5 days per week. To ensure our students can get the best out of their time at Moorditj, a short-term attendance goal is for the rate to continue to increase into the 80% range by the end of Semester 1.
Behaviour
Generally, the students are displaying our core values of being responsible, respectful, and caring as part of the whole school Birdiya Booyi positive behaviour system. We are so thankful for our families continued support and constant reminders at home. When demonstrated, these behaviour expectations give every student the best chance to have a safe, successful, and fun day at school.
Please continue to remind your children that these values need to be displayed on the bus as well. In particular:
· following the bus aide/driver’s instructions
· remaining in seat using seatbelt
· keeping hands/feet to self
· using respectful language
Home Reading
Home Reading is an important part of our literacy strategy at Moorditj Noongar Community College. It is important that children read every night for at least 10 minutes. We will send home a variety of books that are at their appropriate level. Students that get their home reading books folders signed, will earn books every 20 nights at assembly.
