Ending Term 3

As we come to the end of an incredible term it is a great time to reflect on all that has been. We have had a truly HUGE term.

As a staff team we have been:

  • Implementing Project Based Learning with our VoSS colleagues (attending planning days and check ins to stay on track).
  • Reviewed student learning in Mathematics and started whole school Number Talks at the beginning of our lesson.
  • Reviewed our reading data and continued to adapt our students learning goals as they progress.
  • Said goodbye to Mrs Cox and welcomed Ms Gallagher.
  • Ran excursions, sleep overs and movie nights.
  • Organised debating gala days and public speaking competitions.
  • Smiled a lot, laughed more and possibly shed a few tears here and there.
  • Implemented a new attendance tracking system.
  • Implemented a new student finance system.

Our children have been lucky enough to:

  • Spend a week at the SNOW!
  • Make it to the quarter finals in the state soccer competition.
  • Attend debating gala days.
  • Attend athletics carnivals.
  • Be involved in an EPIC NAIDOC celebration.
  • Dress up as their favourite book character.
  • Have gymnastic and tennis lessons taught by professional coaches.
  • Go to amazing STEM days with VoSS schools.
  • Work in our beautiful gardens.
  • Represented our school at the Grow Your Own Lunch Box competition.
  • Reached learning and social goals.
  • Learned all about Blind Cricket.
  • Followed the Women's World Cup.
  • Just generally been amazing kids!!!

Next term is looking like even more fun with our school swim scheme booked in, end of year assembly, end of year performance, Summer In The Pocket, Year 6 excursion and lots more fun to be had along the way.

Staffing

Amorette has been a corner stone of our amazing school, having been with us too many years to count, she will be leaving The Pocket at the end of this week (Wednesday). One of the most talented people and SLSOs we have ever met, we are wishing her all the best on her next journey. She has seen The Pocket change over the many years she has been here, also arriving each day with her positive "can do" attitude.  There will be plenty of tears amongst the staff and senior students on Wednesday.

We will be holding a special assembly for Amorette on Wednesday 11 October (Week 1, Term 4). Time - TBC.

Amorette's role within the school will be replaced by Kelly and Llama.

Public Speaking

Well done to all of our students who made it through to our school finals. Congratulations to Freida, Levi and Yindi who will all go on to represent our school at the regional competition.

Story Dog Mufti Day

Thanks to all those families who were able to donate a gold coin to our mufti day last week. The Story Dogs team were delighted to receive the donation.

Kindy Transition

We had a successful Kindy Transition last week where we welcomed in 16 new students to our school. They had a ball making, painting and playing. Mrs Glasson and Kelly had themed the morning all around the Hungry Caterpillar which saw the little ones leaving with clays caterpillars and fruit skewers! See the flyer below for all the dates.

STEM Day

Last week our Year 3 and 4 students headed to Newrybar Public School to be involved in STEM rotations. They had the opportunity to make load bearing towers, roller coasters, boats, catapults and robotics. They had a ball and learned a lot about collaboration and STEM design thinking.

Our Year 5 and 6 students stayed at The Pocket and welcomed the other VoSS schools. They coded robots, built gliders and made epic rockets!

Music Assembly

This Wednesday at 2:30pm Janet will be holding a music assembly in the COLA. We would love you to come along and be part of the celebration as there will be lots of audience participation!

Assessments

This week our Year 6 students will be participating in Check In assessments, these are to support their learning as we move into Term 4 and through to high school. They will be sitting Writing, Reading and Numeracy.

Our Year 4 and 5 students will be sitting these assessments at the beginning of next term.
