Message from the Principal

Dear Lae International School Community,

Welcome back to Term 4! I hope the break provided everyone with a chance to rest, recharge, and reconnect. As we begin this final term of the year, we do so with a deep sense of reflection and gratitude.

Honouring a Legacy

Tomorrow, Friday 3rd October, we observe a public holiday in honour of the late Hon. Luther Wenge, former Governor of Morobe Province. His decades of service and unwavering commitment to the people of Morobe and Papua New Guinea have left a lasting legacy. We join the nation in remembering his contributions and extend our condolences to his family and all who mourn his passing.

Year 10 National Exams

Our Year 10 students are preparing for their National Examinations, which begin next week. We are proud of their hard work and dedication, and we wish them every success. Please continue to support and encourage them during this important time.

A Busy Term Ahead

Term 4 is always packed with exciting events, celebrations, and final assessments. We encourage all parents and guardians to stay informed by checking the Audiri App regularly and reaching out to your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

2026 Re-Enrolments

Re-enrolment forms for 2026 will be distributed soon. If your child will not be returning next year, please notify the school as soon as possible to assist us with planning and placements

Parent School Access Cards

In the interest of health and safety we are introducing a new school parent access card (example in picture). All parents need to collect their card from the school office in primary or secondary. This card will need to be presented if you want to enter the school campus at any time, including pick up and drop off.

Revision and Past Papers:

The Grade 8, 10, and 12 National and IGCSE exams are upon us. Smart revision habits and past paper practice will support students through this time. All students should be focusing their revision based on the feedback given to their final mocks.

We ask parents to support their children in revision and preparation to the exams. We expect all students to be in the correct school uniform and punctual to their designated exam room.

Together we can help all our students to reach their best potential.

Good luck Grade 8, 10, and 12 as you approach and complete your exams!

Mobile Phone Policy

As with many other schools around the world LIS has led the way with a zero tolerance on the use of mobile phones in school. This is to ensure our students attention is on learning both socially and academically. All parents are reminded that if student mobile phones are seen on either school campus they will be confiscated by the teacher. Parents will then be asked to come and collect the phone from the school office. Repeat occurrences do result in further behaviour sanctions and longer periods of confiscation. We thank all parents for their support in helping our school to remain a distraction free environment where our students can interact socially with one another and give full focus to strengthening their knowledge and understanding.

School Arrival and Departure Times:

Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3pm on both campuses. Students should only remain past pick up time 3.00pm – 3.15pm in secondary if they are participating in intervention classes or a sports ECA. Students not participating should leave the secondary campus promptly after 3pm.

ECAs finish have now finished in primary. All primary students should be picked up promptly between 3.00pm – 3.15pm. In the rare event of a late pick up, due to unforeseen issues, parents should be contacting the school office to advise them. Students should not be regularly picked up late as the school is unable to provide supervision for them.

The school bus service is available as an option if parents are unable to pick their children up at the required times.

As a reminder to all parents and guardians, supervision of students on the primary campus begins at 7.30am with students able to enter classes from 7.45am. We advise all parents to ensure they do not drop their children off earlier than 7.30am. If students arrive between 7.30am and 7.45am they will be supervised in the hall and need to remain in there seated quietly until they can enter classroom.

LIS Positive Behaviour Policy

Pictured below are copies of the behaviour stages followed by all staff when dealing with negative behaviour. Should parents want a full copy of the school’s positive behaviour policy this is available from the school office at either Primary or Secondary.

Welcome to the final term of the year—Term 4! I trust you all had an enjoyable and restful holiday. This term has 10 weeks of engaging teaching and learning, and we’re excited to dive into the journey ahead. We have a vibrant program planned, filled with meaningful activities and learning experiences. One of the highlights will be our UN & Children's Day Celebration in Week 8, where we’ll come together to honour diversity, unity, and the rights of every child.

In Loving Memory of Ms. Shirley Kalasi

During the recent school holiday, we experienced a profound loss with the passing of our beloved colleague, Ms. Shirley Kalasi. A dedicated teacher and cherished member of our school family, Ms. Kalasi was known for her unwavering warmth, compassion, and deep commitment to nurturing our young learners.

Her gentle spirit and loving presence touched the hearts of students, parents, and staff alike. She gave her all to the classroom, creating a safe and joyful space where every child felt seen, heard, and valued. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she shaped with kindness and care.

We remember Ms. Kalasi not only for her professionalism but for the love she poured into her work every single day. Her absence leaves a void, but her memory will continue to inspire us.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

As we move forward, the preschool class will continue their learning journey under the capable and caring guidance of Mrs. Sandra Marilag. We are confident that the values Ms. Kalasi upheld will remain at the heart of our teaching.
