St. Joseph's Primary Penshurst.

ISSUE: Week 1 Term 3, 2024.

School Vision

St Joseph’s Penshurst, as partners in Catholic education and with our school community, pursues fullness of life for all.

Acknowledgement of Country

At St. Joseph’s Primary School we pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land, the Kolorer gunditj people and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

The area around Mount Rouse is the country of the Kolorer gunditj clan of Aboriginal people. Their title is derived from their name for Mount Rouse which is Kolor. The permanent spring that is now located within the Penshurst Botanic Gardens was a traditional meeting place for Aboriginal people in the region.

Principal's Message.

Despite the chilly start on Tuesday morning, it was great to be back together for the start of Term 3 and Semester 2.

The children eagerly shared stories of how they spent the mid-year break. I hope that you were all able to spend some family time together.

We are looking forward to another busy term. We are especially excited about the Grade 5/6 camp to Sovereign Hill and our Book Week Parade in August. We look forward to supporting local olympians and paralympians in their pursuit for Gold at the Paris Olympics. There will be lots of classroom learning and a whole school concert to celebrate as well.

Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement. Let’s continue to make this term a remarkable one!

Warm regards,

Darren.

Learning and Teaching

Staff Professional Learning.

The Student Free Day on Monday allowed our teaching staff to attend a Professional Learning Day in Halls Gap.  Teachers joined staff from many of our Diocesan primary schools to learn more about the ‘FLARE’ Primary Literacy Strategy that is being rolled out to assist with our structured literacy program.

2024 Book Week

It is almost that time again....Book Week!  We love to celebrate all things reading and books and Book Week is the perfect opportunity!  The theme this year is 'Reading is Magic'. Reading does have magical powers; it can transport our thoughts, feelings and imaginations to different locations, transform us into varied characters and even make us forget our daily grind. Staff, students and perhaps some parents may base their costume around this theme, or their favourite book character.  As in previous years, this is not compulsory, only if your child would like to dress up.

Our Book Week Costume Parade will be held on Friday 16th August.  We will have our parade at 9am on this day to share all of the wonderful and creative costumes. More information about our Book Week celebrations will be shared soon.

Wellbeing & Child Safety

Child Safe Standards.

All students enrolled at St Joseph's School have the right to feel safe and be safe. The safety and wellbeing of children in the school’s care will always be our first priority and the school will not tolerate child abuse. The school will create a child-safe and child-friendly environment where children are free to enjoy life to the full without any concern for their safety. Particular attention is paid to the most vulnerable children and young people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, those from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, children with a disability, children who are unable to live at home, international students, and LGBTQIA+ students. The full policy can be accessed via our school’s website:

http://www.sjpenshurst.catholic.edu.au/policy-documents.html

The school’s Child Safety Officer is the Principal, Mr Darren Lloyd.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and well-being and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures, and practices. If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions, please contact the Principal either by phone or email principal@sjpenshurst.catholic.edu.au
