Principal's Report

Hello everyone,

Two more weeks! I cannot believe we are only two weeks from the end of the year, I hope everyone is looking after themselves and we head into next week and the holiday period in high energy and good spirits.

Grade 6 Exhibition: It was such an amazing thing to see our Grade 6 students, Ava, Cienna, Henry and Lenny put on their Exhibition yesterday and last night. The Exhibition is one of the most important elements of a student’s journey through the IB Primary Years Program and gives them a chance to showcase all the skills and learnings they have made over that journey. The nature of having a smaller group of students meant that collaboration could be maximized and they worked on leaving a mark on the school that would be here for a long time. The Grade 6s worked with a number of artists, both local and international, to create artworks around the school. A huge congratulations to Henry, Lenny, Ava and Cienna on all their hard work throughout this process.

Transition Morning: This morning saw our 2025 Foundation students spend time with Mrs. Barclay and Mrs. Glenister in their classroom for next year. They have settled in so well and it was lovely to see so many smiles and hear so much happy learning. All other students got to spend time in their 2025 classes this morning as well, again there were lots of excited faces as they moved into their classes for next year. The class structure and staffing for 2025 is as follows:

Foundation: Mrs. Glenister (Mondays) & Mrs. Barclay (Tues-Fri)

Grade 1: Mrs. Krajewski

Grade 2/3: Ms. Probert

Grade 3/4: Mrs. Wenczel (Mon, Thur and Fri) & Mrs. Bloomfield (Tues and Wed)

Grade 4/5: Mrs. Conlan

Grade 5/6: Mr. Sonogan

Macedon and Mount Macedon Carols: Our lovely students will be performing a bunch of songs at this year’s Macedon & Mount Macedon Christmas Carols on Wednesday evening down at Tony Clarke Reserve. The evening starts at 5:30PM with carols starting from 6:00PM. This is always such a lovely night; I look forward to seeing you all there.

Relocation Procedure Reminder: Just a quick reminder that when our LGA ticks over into Extreme weather forecast (This is separate and different from the CFA forecasts) we will enact our pre-emptive relocation plan. There have been instances in the past where we have done this in the last week of the year. You will hear from the school via our emergency text message service that the school will be relocation on a specific date, you will need to reply with a ‘YES’ if your child/ren will be relocating with the school or a ‘NO’ if your child/ren will be staying home and not attending school on the relocation day.

Timetable for Next Week: Next week is a busy week for MMPS so I thought I would just run through some of the events in a little more detail.

  • Year 6 Graduation: Held on Monday night (16/12) at the Trading Post. Students arrive at 6:30PM for dinner with the Graduation Ceremony beginning at 7:30PM.
  • Picnic at Hanging Rock: On Wednesday the 18th the whole school will be going to Hanging Rock to spend the day enjoying the reserve. We will have a special visit from a special guest, and everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the day with us! Please provide permission and payment via the QKR! App.
  • Final Assembly and Christmas Concert: We will be holding our final assembly of the year on the morning of Thursday the 19th. This will kick off from 9:15AM in our school hall. We will be singing our Christmas songs at this assembly.
  • Parent Helper Morning Tea: Following on from our final assembly we will be holding a morning tea to thank all parents for helping throughout the year. This will be held in our school library so please come along!
  • Final Day: Our final day for the year will be Friday the 20th of December. We will be finishing at 1:30PM.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Many thanks,

Joe.

Well-being and Inclusion Update

Exciting news for Mount Macedon Primary: Branch Out is coming to you in 2025!

Childhood is a thrilling journey filled with rapid changes and a whirlwind of emotions. To help our children navigate this pivotal time, we’re thrilled to introduce Branch Out—a dynamic, evidence-based program designed to support our primary school students in achieving optimal mental health and well-being now and into the future!

What is in store?

Through the innovative use of live theatre in collaboration with Brainstorm Productions, students will be presented with a wellbeing and resilience program called ‘Being Brave’. This program equips our young learners with the tools to recognise and regulate their emotions as well as support others with taught positive coping strategies!

Offered by mental health clinicians from Tuning in to Kids, caregivers and teachers are also offered emotional coaching to help respond to their children’s emotions and help foster their ability to regulate emotions themselves.

Branch Out takes a proactive and preventative approach to mental health, aiming to address challenges before they arise—setting our children up for success as they move into high school and beyond.

Let’s come together to nurture the emotional wellbeing of our community!

The last few weeks in STEM...

All the classes have been busy making their balloon-powered bottle cars. Thanks to families for sending in their milk lids and soda bottles for us to reuse in our lessons. I think the results are amazing and (most of) the students seemed thrilled with the results! The following photos show fun was had during these lessons!
