Dear St Mary's School Community,

Fasting Before Feasting

‘This year, consider fasting not only as a Lenten discipline in preparation for the feast of Easter, but as a time-honoured means of growing closer to God and neighbour’... writes Marilyn Rodrigues

Focus Value: : Responsibility

Class News

Science/Design and Technology

We have started the year off with a bang in Biological Sciences, with each class participating in exciting, hands-on activities jam-packed with information.

Pre-Primary: We have been using our five senses to discover the world around us. We have learnt what external features are and have applied this knowledge to labelling and describing the external features of different animals and plants.

Year One/Two: We have been looking at the human life cycle and how we grow, change and develop from a baby to now. It was very exciting to see pictures of us as babies and to compare our height from birth to now. We have started to look at animal life cycles, particularly the kangaroo.

Year Three/Four: We have researched different biomes in which specific plants and animals live. We have learnt what consumers and producers are and have investigated different food chains that exist within each biome.

Year Four/Five: We have discovered how plants and animals adapt in order to survive in their environment. We learnt about different bird beaks and then designed, created and tested different sized bird beaks to judge their ability to pick up different sized bird seed.

Year Five/Six: We have investigated, through different experiments, how it is important to change only one variable and to always have a control for comparison. Now we have started to talk about the evolution of animals and different adaptations that these have developed in order to survive in their environment.

"Bruce - the last great hunt"

The Shire of Merredin, Cummins Theatre is hosting “Bruce- the last great hunt” on Tuesday 26th March 2024 10.30am. This show is designed for fifteen (15) years and over and will be open to both high school students and the public

BRUCE is a loveable screw-up; he’s got one last shot at redemption but, with a lifetime of regrets hunting him down, he’s running out of space-time. Created and performed by Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd and Tim Watts, this side-splitting story is unapologetic in its minimal approach. BRUCE is a non-stop rollercoaster of action, adventure, and nostalgia.

Keeping you on the edge of your seat, BRUCE will sweep you away on an epic adventure of love and revenge. He may be just a floating block of yellow foam, but BRUCE is out to prove he’s got a heart of pure gold.

From the creator of the international smash hit The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer comes a new low-fi puppetry spectacular. Get ready to blast off for an epic adventure that bends time and melts your heart. After Tim Watts’ last two Helpmann Award nominated shows (The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer and It’s Dark Outside) performed to sold out crowds and rave reviews all over the world, Watts has teamed up with Nickelodeons’ Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd for BRUCE.
