This week is a special week on the calendar where we celebrate SASS Appreciation Week. Our SASS team of Mrs Foran, Mrs Edwards, Miss Sykes and Mr MacFarlane are incredible group of colleagues who keep our school running and keep us all organised. Each week we can thank them for the many, many things that they do to support learning and life at Binalong Public School. Thank you to each of you, our school is a better place with each of you in it!
Last week I spent two days with small school principal colleagues from around the state at our annual Small Schools Conference. We were joined by Directors' of Educational Leadership; Meg Couvee, Vicki Stokes, Greg McDonald and Keith Duran, as well as our Executive Director, Kathy Powzun. We participated in workshops about school climate, learning and wellbeing in a small school context, curriculum reform, equity in small schools, as well as hearing from principal colleagues about their own school impact stories. These opportunities to connect with colleagues enable collaboration and networking to support us to do our jobs well and make a positive impact in our schools and for our students.
This Saturday Mrs Ranie and myself are heading to Canberra to join in a professional learning day about best practice in teaching and pedagogy and we look forward to sharing our learning with our team and school community.
Congratulations to Elise who has been nominated and selected to join the the Department of Student Voices in Education and Schools (DOVES), which is an initiative of the former Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning, to gain student feedback and perspective in relation to a range of issues in the delivery of Education in NSW. DOVES is a 27-member council representing students from all Operational Directorates across NSW, including Connected Communities, who advocate on behalf of their school communities. Students from across Regional South will have an exciting opportunity to attend a two-day student conference to share successful initiatives happening in their school as well as gain an insight into what is happening at other schools. I am sure that Elise will have many thoughtful contributions to make.
