School Fun Run – 12 December

Our P&C is gearing up for this year’s School Fun Run, which will take place on Thursday 12 December at 2.00 pm after our Presentation Day Assembly. This event also serves as an important fundraiser for our school, and families are encouraged to get involved by creating an online profile at funrun.com.au and supporting their child’s fundraising efforts.

Students will pack clothes for the Colour Run in their bags and each class will have an opportunity to change after the assembly, into their colour run clothes (most children wear white, but anything comfy for exercise is great).

Week 7 - Student Leadership

Captain and Vice-Captain 2026 speeches will be held on Friday of week 7 after school sport. Students can make A4 posters - please do not exceed 8 posters. All written applications for technology team members and library monitors are to be submitted either to Mrs Green or Miss Louttit by Friday, week 7. House Captains will be voted for on Thursday, week 7. Students may present an optional 30 second speech. We encourage our senior students to apply for all the leadership roles they feel are a good fit for their strengths and interests.

Kiama High School Orientation

Last week, our Year 6 students visited Kiama High School for their first transition afternoon. They experienced two high school classes and gained a taste of what next year will bring. Students will participate in one more afternoon visit before attending a full transition day. A big thank you to Mr Reed, who stepped in on short notice to support our Year 6s.

Jamberoo Community Preschool Visits

Today, we welcomed our Jamberoo Community Preschool friends and they will continue their visits on Wednesday and Thursday. The children are enjoying a range of activities this week, including sport and games, library sessions and science. We look forward to sharing some photos with you in our next newsletter.

School Excellence Plan

On Monday, Mrs Behl-Shanks, Mrs Galea and I attended a School Excellence Plan reflection day at Kiama Public School. Once we gather valuable feedback from our families and students to support our progress measures, we will be well ahead of finalising our plan. Our Annual Report, which reflects what we have achieved this year, will be published at the end of Term 1, 2026.

Remembrance Day Service

On 11 November, we held our Remembrance Day service, led by our school leaders Sienna, Zane, Indi and Luca. Samara sensitively delivered the 'In Flanders Fields' poem, while Ava and Maleah supported with technology. We were fortunate to have Mr Michael Souter from the RSL Club join us. Students placed flowers on the stage as a symbol of remembrance, and Mr Souter was deeply moved by the respect shown by our students.

Crazy Hair & Jelly Day

Last week, our school was bursting with colour and craziness. Students arrived with an incredible range of hairstyles – from bright mohawks and glitter braids to cupcake space buns, mermaid hair and even a few gravity-defying masterpieces! It was wonderful to see so many children embracing the fun. Thank you to everyone who brought in a gold coin. Our jelly cups were a huge hit, with excited lines of students ready to enjoy the treat. Please see photos below.

Inclusive School Sport - Multi Sports

Last week a small group of students, Mrs Kunkler, Miss Griffith and Mrs McGee attended inclusive school sport. Multi-Sports Day is fun and inclusive of all students, with sports modified and adapted to suit the needs of students. The children had a great day yesterday trying new and different sports. Photos will be added to our next newsletter.

Class Placement 2026 Process

We take great care to ensure each student is placed in the most appropriate classroom setting. When forming our stage 2 and 3 composite classes, we consider a range of factors, including balancing class sizes and compositions, peer relationships, social and emotional needs, learning support requirements, behavioural considerations, dynamics of students working together, teacher placement and funding. Our goal is always to create well-balanced and supportive learning environments where every child can thrive. JPS is fortunate to have a team of dedicated and highly skilled teaching professionals. Please note that requests for specific teachers will not be considered.

Kind regards,

Katie Louttit

Garden Club

We had a great time in gardening this week, giving all the plants a big drink of water, weeding and tying up the new dahlia plants. We were also super-excited to get our new wheelchair-accessible garden bed up and running. This has been a labour of love for about a year now, and it's so great to see it come to fruition. I'd like to say a big thank you to Jamberoo CWA who have funded this project, Lisa Bowker (OT) who has helped with the measurements and Kiama Men's Shed, for building and delivering the bed! This garden bed is outside the veggie garden area, next to the concrete. We have filled it with potting mix, watered it in and mulched it with lucerne hay. It will be ready for planting when we return in 2026! Hurray! Students went home with lots of yummy vegetables on Tuesday. Mrs McCormack

Class Spotlight

Wombarra

This week in Kindergarten, we have been busy exploring our creativity through drama, art, and English. During our drama lessons, the children used voice, language, mime, and movement to express their feelings and bring different characters to life. They have been learning how to use their bodies and facial expressions to show emotion and to work together with others to create short performances. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they take on new roles, share ideas, and show awareness of themselves and others within the performance space.

In art, we have continued to develop our fine motor skills and creativity by making colourful underwater turtle scenes. The children began by drawing their own turtles, then painted beautiful ocean backgrounds using watercolours. They learned how to twist crepe paper to make seaweed (a trickier technique than it looks) and carefully arranged it to complete their underwater designs. Each piece of artwork is unique and shows the students’ growing attention to detail and pride in their work.

In English, we have been learning about the long vowel sounds and how a magic e (sometimes called a bossy e) changes the sound of a word—for example, turning ‘cap’ into ‘cape’ or ‘hop’ into ‘hope’. Students enjoyed listening for these sounds in stories and writing sentences together. They are becoming more confident in recognising vowel patterns and applying this knowledge when reading and writing.

It has been a wonderful week of learning through imagination, creativity, and play!

Mrs Galea

Birrahlee

Over the past few weeks, Birrahlee students have worked tirelessly writing, timing, practising, editing, and perfecting their Jamberoo Jabber speeches. I am so impressed with both the content of their speeches as well as the manner that they have delivered them. Just as impressive has been the respect shown to each speaker by their captive audience. Congratulations Birrahlee! You are all winners in my eyes!

Mrs Kunkler

Nanga Mai

Nanga Mai have had a fantastic couple of weeks of learning! We have begun an exciting new literacy unit all about the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger). The class has been so engaged, asking thoughtful questions and showing great curiosity as we explore the mystery of this fascinating Australian animal.

In maths, we’ve been learning about fractions, including halves, quarters, eighths and thirds. Students have shown excellent focus and determination as they work to understand and represent fractions in different ways.

This term, we’ve also been very lucky to have Mrs Green teaching our handwriting lessons. The students have been producing beautiful, neat work and look forward to each session — especially when Mrs Green brings out her special scratch-and-sniff stickers as a reward for their effort and presentation!

Grow Your Mind

Library

Last month, I went to the Berry Writers Festival to see Craig Silvey, the author of Honeybee, Runt, Runt and the Diabolical Dognapping and many more, get interviewed. Our tickets came with complimentary food and books (Runt and the Diabolical Dognapping). I even got to get my copies signed by Craig Silvey and got a photo with him. I donated 2 of my signed copies to the library for students to read.-Kiara

Term 4 Library Reward – Borrow and Win!

This term, our library has a special reward program to celebrate all our enthusiastic readers! Every time a student borrows a book, they will receive a ticket. This ticket goes into our “Library Reward Jar” for a chance to win an exciting prize!

The winner will be drawn in Week 8, so the more books you borrow, the more chances you have to win!

It’s a fun way to explore new stories, discover new interests, and enjoy the magic of reading. We can’t wait to see which lucky readers will take home a special reward. Happy reading!

Mrs Green

Don’t Forget Your Library Bag!

To help keep our library books in great condition, we ask that all students bring a library bag when borrowing books. A bag keeps books dry, clean, and protected, helping them last longer for all our readers to enjoy.

Please check that your child has a library bag each week so they can safely borrow and return books. Thank you for helping us look after our library collection!
