June 2025, Term 2 Week 6

A Message from the Principal

As we head into the second half of Term 2, it’s been wonderful to see our students continuing to show commitment to their learning and engage so positively with the many opportunities on offer at Plattsburg. I’d like to share some key updates and upcoming events as we move into a very busy and exciting time of the term.

High Expectations for Learning and Behaviour

At Plattsburg, we hold high expectations for all our students, not only in their learning but also in their behaviour both in the classroom and in the playground. We are proud of the respectful and inclusive environment we continue to build across our school, and we ask that families support this by encouraging their children to follow instructions, use kind words, and treat others with respect. Consistency across home and school makes a big difference in supporting positive behaviour outcomes.

Focus on the Value of Respect

Over the next two weeks, we are shining a spotlight on our core school value of Respect. Respect underpins all our interactions at school—from how we speak to one another, to the way we treat our learning spaces, our peers, and our teachers. Students will engage in discussions, activities, and class-based challenges that reinforce what respect looks like, sounds like, and feels like at Plattsburg. Please continue these conversations at home—we know our students rise to high expectations when we work together.

Healthy Harold Visit

It was fantastic to see all our students engage so positively with Healthy Harold this week. The Life Education program is always a highlight, giving students important messages about making safe and healthy choices. Thank you to our staff and families for supporting this valuable program again in 2025.

Ultimate Frisbee – Wednesday 11th June

Our Ultimate Frisbee sessions are happening next week on Wednesday 11th June here at Plattsburg. These workshops promote teamwork, resilience, and physical activity in a fun and inclusive way. If your child is participating, please ensure their signed permission notes are returned to school as soon as possible.

Starstruck Rehearsals Underway

Our talented Starstruck students have been working hard with Miss Rebecca to prepare for their upcoming performance. It has been wonderful to see their dedication and enthusiasm in rehearsals, and we can’t wait to see them shine on stage. A big thank you to the families who are supporting their children with transport, costumes, and time. Your support helps make these opportunities possible.

Beanie Day – Thursday 19th June

Beanie Day is coming up on Thursday 19th June and we are looking forward to seeing our students wear their favourite beanies to school! This fun day not only brings a smile but also supports awareness and compassion for those doing it tough in winter. Thank you to Miss Jasmine for organising what’s sure to be another great event at Plattsburg.

NAIDOC Week – Week 9

Week 9 is shaping up to be a massive week at Plattsburg as we celebrate NAIDOC Week across the school. Our staff have been planning a range of meaningful learning experiences that honour and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history, and achievements. Please stay connected via our school communication platforms—Sentral, our Facebook page, and Audiri—for all the details. We are excited to share this important week with our students and wider school community.

Thank you as always for your continued support. We are incredibly proud of our students, and we look forward to continuing a positive and successful Term 2 together.

Regards,

Dave Hopson

Important Uniform Update

From Monday, 16 June 2025, non school-coloured jumpers of any kind will no longer be permitted as part of our school uniform. Students who attend school wearing clothing that is out of uniform will receive a notification via the Sentral Parent Portal.

This renewed focus on wearing full school uniform is part of our strong commitment to high expectations and the pursuit of excellence—values we are all working hard to uphold at Plattsburg. Wearing our uniform with pride supports a sense of belonging, unity, and school identity.

Please refer to the uniform guidelines that have been sent home and shared online, outlining all expectations clearly. Thank you to all our families and students who come to school each day proudly wearing our Plattsburg colours of maroon and yellow.
