Principal Message

Athletics Carnival and K/1 Sports Day

We look forward to an exciting day tomorrow at Mingara for all students for our annual athletics carnival with our K/1 Sports Day occurring simultaneously on the same day. This is a great opportunity for all students to compete, have fun and support their peers with successful students (8 years and older) having the opportunity to progress to TLPSSA Zone Athletics. Students in Years 2-6 will today meet together in the house teams to clarify the outline of the carnival, practise team chants and build team spirit. Students are most welcome to accessorise with house colours on the day.

Thanks to staff for their commitment and organisation and a special thanks to the many parents assisting as volunteers or attending on the day to support the carnival.

Congratulations

Special congratulations to Bella and Nixon from K-6 Purple who represented our school at the Central Coast Dance Festival on Monday night. It was an amazing night and a great opportunity for these students.

Celebrating Student Achievement

It is great seeing many parents attending our weekly assemblies in our school hall each Monday from 12:15pm, alternating between K-2 (odd weeks) and 3-6 (even weeks) and celebrating with our students. We also regularly post Class Expo videos on both our FACEBOOK page and YouTube Channel for families to enjoy.

Student Reports

Reports are due to be sent home in Week 10 this term and represent time and effort invested by staff to ensure they provide valuable and relevant information about your child’s progress. We encourage you to share this information together with your child to assist with their own self-reflection and consider setting of personal goals.

Have a great week,

Paul Miller

Deputy Principal Message

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been another busy week of learning and activities at Wamberal Public School with many opportunities for our students to participate and represent our school with pride. Thank you for taking the time to read up on this week’s information

  • Koori choir
  • Debating
  • Public Speaking
  • Cross Country Carnivals
  • GRIP Student Leadership Conference
  • PSSA Netball, Soccer, Cricket

These opportunities would not be possible without the expertise, passion and commitment of our staff, who spend many additional hours in planning and organising such events. Thank you to all our staff who take on the additional extracurricular activities, supporting our students to achieve in such diverse ways.

Dogs on School Grounds

We ask our families to please be mindful that dogs are not permitted on school grounds, even if on a leash or being carried. The exception being is an assistance animal, such as a guide dog.

Some children and adults have a genuine fear of dogs, and we kindly ask that dogs are not in the immediate vicinity of school entrances or exits.

Attendance Matters # Every Day Matters

As we head into the end of the term, it remains important for children to attend school every single day, unless they are sick or are absent for a justified reason. Being at school is the best place for students to learn as well as to keep social connections and build life-long skills.

We understand that families are eager to take a well deserved break, however planned travel should only be during scheduled school holidays. Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences can add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing.

Starting in Term 3 there will be twice termly attendance target draws. Students whose attendance is above 90% will have a chance to win one of seven gift cards, each five weeks. Draws will be held at the end of Week 5 and 10. In addition, each member of the class who achieves the highest attendance rate at the end of the term will receive an icy pole from the canteen. Thank you to our fabulous WPS P&C for making these attendance incentives available. Attendance matters - let's aim to be at school greater than 90% of the time.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is a count of adjustment support provided to students with disability to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers, as part of a school’s approach to inclusive practice. All Australian schools are required to participate and provide good quality data on an annual basis.

The National Consistency Collection of Data (NCCD) will take place in Term 3 and will not affect your child in any way. There is no requirement to undertake any additional testing and data is provided in such a way to protect the privacy and confidentiality of students.

If you have any questions in relation to the data collection, please contact the school. Additional information is available in the NCCD parent fact sheet.

PBL Rewards Trading Day is Friday

On Friday students will trade their SRLs to select rewards they will receive on PBL Rewards Day next Thursday 29 June 2023. Congratulations to all our safe, respectful learners on their efforts this term.

Have a great week everyone,

PSSA Basketball Knockout Gala Day

On Friday 9 June, Wamberal Public School boys and girls teams participated in the PSSA Basketball Knockout Gala Day at Terrigal Stadium. The day was jam packed full of fast paced basketball. The girls team had a mix of experienced players and students who transferred their netball skills to the basketball court. Each game was competitive, however they eventually lost to the gala day champions, Bateau Bay PS in the second game. This led to the team being placed in the back draw and playing Erina Heights in the final game. This game was won in convincing fashion with excellent team work and hustle.

The Wambi boys team started the day with an impressive win over Chittaway Bay PS with every player contributing to the scoreline. The second game against Bateau Bay PS was competitive from the tip-off with both teams trading baskets until our Wambi boys pulled away in the last quarter to get the win. The third game of the day was the final against Berkeley Vale PS. The boys played with passion and energy, however the game finished like a recent NBA semi final, in the dying seconds with a put back after a missed shot in the last five seconds of the game. It was a difficult way to end the game and the boys should be proud of their efforts.

Both our Wambi boys and girls teams represented the school with pride and displayed excellent sportsmanship. Well done on a great fun filled gala day.
