Term 2, Week 9

Principal's Report

Spelling Bee

On Thursday morning students in 3-6 participated in the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee. It was fantastic to see so many students having a go. Congratulations to all that took part and well done to the winners Jayden and Karim, our GPS super spellers!

Thank you to Mr Waterman for organising this opportunity for our students.

Attendance

We have a renewed focus on attendance and it has been so wonderful to see steady improvements in whole school and individual attendance rates over the term. Mrs Smith has organised a special treat for students who have reached at or above 90% attendance this term- a trip to the adventure playground! I look forward to joining the fun next week.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

To acknowledge the school-wide effort towards positive behaviour choices, Mr Waterman has designed an amazing orienteering activity for all students to participate in next Friday. These acknowledgement days are used to celebrate the collective accomplishments of students working hard to follow Goulburn Public School’s behaviour expectations of safe, respectful and responsible learner. What a great way to end the term.

Reports

Teachers have been hard at work preparing half yearly reports for all students K-6. These reports will be mailed at the end of next week. I encourage you to read the report with your child and celebrate the many strengths they demonstrate inside and outside of the classroom. Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to discuss any aspect of the school report.

Term 3

There are plenty of events already planned for Term 3 including the GCOPS concert, the district athletics carnival and the Life Education Van. More details will be communicated next term.

I would like to wish all our students and families a relaxing winter holiday break!

Students return for Term 3 on Tuesday 18 July.

School Attendance

Attendance at school every day is important. When your child misses school they miss opportunities to learn, make friends and build skills.

Attendance below 90% has a negative impact on your child.

If your child is absent, please call or email the school or complete the green notification of absence note.

Attendance Team Coordinator

Attendance Rewards Excursion

Students who have 90% and above attendance for semester one will receive an invitation early next week to attend the Adventure Park Play Equipment at Victoria Park on Thursday 29 June. This rewards excursion is a great way for students to celebrate their high attendance at school.

Students will walk to Victoria Park in stage groups. If you do not wish your child to attend, please contact the office.

Students who do not receive an invitation will remain at school on the day.

Library Book Borrowing

To borrow books from the library all students need a library bag. This is important to keep library books safe while travelling to and from school and from Lunch box mishaps. An recyclable shopping bag or pillowcase are some great options. Please make sure your child's name is clearly labelled on their library bag.

NSW Premier's Spelling Bee

On Thursday 22 June students from year 3-6 competed in the school round of the NSW Premiere's Spelling Bee.

The Premier's Spelling Bee is a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage with and improve their spelling.

The program includes activities that encourage students to become more confident users of language through broadening their vocabulary, and promotes improved literacy skills in conjunction with the NSW English K-10 syllabus.

Students did a wonderful job spelling words to ultimately find a winner.

Congratulations to Jayden winning the year 3-4 round and Karim winning the year 5-6 round.

Well done to all students who competed.

Joke Of The Week!

From The Office

Administering Prescription Medication

When a medical practitioner has prescribed medication that must be administered during the school day, parents/carers must:

  • notify the school
  • provide up to date information as required
  • supply the medication and any 'consumables' necessary for its administration in a timely way.
  • Must be supplied in a blister/webster pack or original packaging with a prescription label attached.
  • Parents/carers of children who require prescribed medication to be

administered at school must complete a written request document.

Students must not carry medications and medications are to be delivered to the office by parents/carers or the chemists.

Non-prescribed medications

Schools generally don’t administer medication that hasn’t been requested for an individual student’s specific condition. In some cases the medical practitioner may not write a prescription for such medication because it may be available 'over the counter'. NSW Health advises that ‘over the counter’ medication may still be harmful and that schools should follow the same procedures for non-prescribed medications as for prescribed medications.

For further information, please contact the school office.

Update Your Details

Have you moved house? Do you have a new phone number or email address?

Please contact the school office to update any details that may have changed.

Visitor Check In

All parents/carers and visitors who enter the school grounds must check in at the front office. Please report to the office directly after entering the school gates and you will be issued with a visitors sticker to wear for the duration of your visit.  This is for the safety of all students and staff members.

If you wish to speak to a teacher, please contact the office and a time can be arranged for you.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Online Payments

There has been a bit of confusion when paying for certain events/activities/uniforms online.

The school events and activities are separate to the P&C run uniform shop.

If you are purchasing uniforms – this is to be paid to the P&C account – their details are on their price lists.

All other payments to the school for excursions/activities/sports etc are to be paid to the school account which the link is found on our school website.

https://goulburn-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

then go to: MAKE A PAYMENT

There has been lots of mixed payments and it is making it difficult to reconcile accounts.  If you are unsure at all, please call the office on 48212827, and we can confirm for you.

We do not want any student to miss out on any activity due to payment not being received.
