Plattsburg Public School Newsletter

February 2026, Term 1 Week 2

A Message from the Principal

I am proud to be principal of Plattsburg Public School and to welcome our students, families, and staff to the start of a new school year. While I am new to Plattsburg, it has already been clear to me what a strong and dedicated school community this is.

It has been wonderful to see students return to school and jump right back into learning. Classrooms are active and focused, and our students have started the year with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a readiness to grow. Our teachers have worked hard to ensure a smooth start, setting high expectations while creating welcoming environments where students feel supported and challenged.

This year is especially meaningful for our kindergarten students and their families as they begin their school journey. We recognise that starting school is a big step, and our kindergarten teachers and staff focus on creating a safe, supportive environment for each child. Through consistent routines and engaging activities, students are learning to feel comfortable at school while building friendships and developing important academic and social skills.

As principal, my goal is to build on the strong foundation already in place at Plattsburg Public School. I am committed to working alongside our staff, students, and families to support academic excellence, personal growth, and a positive school culture where every student can succeed.

Thank you for the warm welcome I have already received. I look forward to getting to know our students and families and to partnering with you throughout the school year. I am excited for what lies ahead and confident that this will be a great year for our school.

Why Attendance Matters

What Is Coming Up

Athletics Skills Program

Students in 3/4W, 4/5BT and 5/6HN will be participating in an Athletics Skills Program run by Gecko Sports during their scheduled PE/Sport time each Thursday, starting next week 12/2.

The program will run for 4 weeks and be delivered by trained Gecko Sports coaches. It will focus on developing fundamental athletics skills such as running, jumping and throwing. This will be a great opportunity for students to build confidence and improve their technique in preparation for our upcoming school athletics carnival later this term.

There is no cost to families for this program.

All students will be expected to participate as part of their regular PE/Sport program. If you do not wish your child to participate, please contact the school to let us know.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

In The Classroom

Stage 3 Mentoring

A massive thank you to our senior students from 5/6HN who recently supported mentoring sessions in our Kindergarten and K/1 classes.

It was wonderful to see our students leading by example, showing kindness, patience and responsibility while supporting our youngest learners. They did an outstanding job helping our newest members of the Plattsburg family feel welcome, safe and supported.

We are incredibly proud of the way our senior students stepped into leadership roles and demonstrated our school values so positively.

Thank you to all involved in making this such a successful and meaningful experience.

Stage 3

Dear 5/6HN Parents and Carers,

We have covered a heap of learning in 5/6HN this week and wanted to share some highlights with you.

As part of our literacy focus, we have been working on increasing vocabulary. One of our “words of the day” was resilient, and students engaged in thoughtful and insightful discussions around its meaning and how it applies to learning, challenges and everyday life.

In English, we explored the theme of captivity, with students sharing and justifying their opinions on whether they agreed or disagreed with this concept. The discussions were respectful, reflective and demonstrated strong critical thinking skills.

In Science, we began our learning on life cycles, with a particular focus on metamorphosis. This is a unit we will continue to build on throughout the term.

Further communication will be sent out next week regarding class organisation.

Thank you for your continued support.

Regards,Mr Hopson (Assistant Principal)

Miss Nean
