We had another fantastic P&F meeting on Monday past. We are in an incredible financial position thanks to the hard work of all our P&F members and the wider support of the parent group. Don’t forget the School Fete is happening soon, it’ll be another chance to come along and support our wonderful committee.

Holy Communion

We wish our Holy Communicants, Ava, Sienna and Sage, all the very best on Sunday as they receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. All are welcome to attend the 10.30am Mass.

Learning Journey

Don’t forget our Learning Journey happens next Tuesday 3.20-5.30pm. It is a chance to come into the classrooms and see the work your child has been doing during the term. Please remember, it is not a time to chat specifically to your child’s teacher. If you do need to speak to them, please remember to call the front Office and make an appointment.

School Photos

Thank you to all parents who prepared their children for the school photos during the week.

The Arts

This Term in Music we have been looking forward to our visit from Musica Viva!

Next week we are welcoming “Timmy and the Breakfast band” to our school to perform their act, which combines music and circus to explore how music affects our emotions.

In preparation for their visit, we have been participating in lots of fun activities.

These include;

·         Learning about the band members,

·         Learning about their Instruments (Banjo, Mandolin, Cello and Saw)

·         Soundscaping with Flight of the bumblebee- Listening to the famous piece of classical music and creating our own versions on the ipad using                    music software.

·         Foley artistry- (how they make sound effects in movies using unusual objects!)

·         Exploring music and how it affects our emotions

·         Folk Music-Rhythm activities using our own percussion instruments.

By becoming familiar with the works of the “Timmy and the Breakfast band” the children will be highly engaged during their visit.

In the photos below, the children watched the artists perform “Feuding banjos” where the artists echo each other’s rhythms, then they had a go themselves by following the leader and creating a canon performance. Students also created “puppets” and used musical pitch to get the puppets to move.

Special Events

Faction Athletics Carnival

Even the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits at our Faction Athletics Carnival! Despite the strong winds and threats of rain the atmosphere was filled with team spirit, determination, and plenty of cheering from the sidelines as students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 gave their best effort in throwing, running and team games.

The day showcased not only athletic talent but also the wonderful values of sportsmanship, encouragement, and teamwork. Well done to every student for participating with enthusiasm and giving it their all.

Kindy/Pre-Primary Excursion

Our Kindy and Pre-Primary classes recently set off on a very exciting adventure into the heart of our local community! The children enjoyed visiting several important places in town, including Subway, the Post Office, the Fire Station, and the Police Station, before finishing the day with a delicious lunch at Wild Poppy Café.

At the Post Office, the children proudly posted letters they had written to their families — keep an eye on your mailbox! At the Fire Station, our wonderful volunteer firefighters taught us important emergency safety tips and even showed us their impressive fire truck. The visit to the Police Station was a highlight, with the children learning about keeping our community safe and even experiencing what it might be like to be “locked up like a criminal” — a very memorable moment for everyone!

The children had a wonderful time exploring, learning, and asking questions throughout the day. The excitement continued on the bus ride back to school, where there were lots of happy smiles and stories being shared.

A big thank you to all the staff, parent helpers, and community members who made this excursion possible. Experiences like these help our students connect with their community and bring classroom learning to life.

Finally, a big thankyou also to IGA and Subway for donating morning tea and to Hayley at Wild Poppy for going above and beyond in organising our lunch

Red Cross Incursion

Year Four - Six

The Pillow Case session began with discussion of how we feel in a crisis followed by directed calming breaths while thinking about their favourite colour - in, disliked colour - out.  This strategy was suggested to maintain calm.

The Pillow Case is a handy holdall of emergency and small personal items which can be grabbed should an emergency such as fire, occur.  Students were given a pillowcase each printed with item suggestions.  Students drew what they considered to be necessary items together with one or two small personal items.

Students were engaged.  They recognised the immediacy of the situation and the need to do their bit to stay safe.

Year Two -Three

The Red Cross Volunteers read us a story about Birdie who needed some help when he ran into some trouble - an emergency, there was a fire! We learnt there are lots of people that are out there to help those in emergency situations. They can be policemen, fire fighters, SES or Red Cross volunteers. We talked about what classified as an emergency and how we might call for the people that can help us in that situation.

Year One

Today we had a visit from the Red Cross volunteers to discuss with the children actions that can prepare them for emergencies.

The junior classrooms enjoyed Birdie and Frog and their story about what to do in a bush fire and who is there to help us during and after an emergency.  we participated in breathing tasks to calm our bodies when in an emergency so we are able to stay calm and get to safety.  we met Birdie and Frog from the story that told us some excellent information and helped us learn about emergencies.
