P&C 2024 Survey...(repeat from Compass notification)

The Balmain Public School Parents & Citizens Association continues to work on fundraising events and projects to enhance our school and provide educational enrichment opportunities for our children.

To help inform and guide our approach we are once again seeking your feedback and ideas through a community survey. This survey is open to all members of the school community (parents/carers, school staff, P&C members) to ensure we are considering the needs of our entire school community.

We would love to hear what projects you would like us to focus on in 2024 and also understand your capacity to support our fundraising and project work.

Thank you for taking the time to complete our brief survey (2-3 mins) please click here to complete by Friday 1 March.

We hope to be able to share the results of this survey at our 2024 AGM on 13 March.

If you have any questions please email us at balmainpspc@gmail.com

Kind Regards,

Lauren and the P&C Exec Team

Election of 2024 P&C Executive Roles

Next month on Wednesday 13th March, the Balmain P&C will hold our Annual General Meeting and vote on Executive Positions for the Committee.

There are up to five formal positions available namely, President, Secretary, Treasurer and either one or two Vice Presidents.  Additionally there are a number of other important positions that sit within the committee and provide support.

Our PresidentSecretary and Treasurer have served a number of years on the committee and aren’t renominating for 2024.  The remaining team (Tracy, Trista, Kara and Yann) need replacements to help drive the 2024 agenda and, additionally, have identified that a Communications Coordinator would be a critical addition to the team.

If you have any questions about what each role entails here’s a quick description:

P&C President (outgoing Lauren LaChapelle)

  • Key figure in driving the tone and focus for that year’s P&C;
  • Main contact between the P&C Committee and the School Principal;
  • Chairs the monthly P&C meetings and sets the agenda in consultation with the Secretary;
  • Advocates on issues on behalf of parents as needed.

Secretary  (outgoing Renate Harris)

  • Organises Exec catch-ups and monthly P&C meetings;
  • Records and disseminates the minutes of the monthly meetings and any extra-ordinary meetings;
  • Organises P&C correspondence including oversight of the P&C mailbox;
  • Takes a lead in general smooth-running of P&C and Committee business.

P&C Treasurer (outgoing Paul Galpin)

  • Provides transparency over the financial position inclusive of reporting of all cash flows at monthly meetings;
  • Takes a lead on banking and cash-handling processes and queries;
  • Provides financial reporting support and oversight for events;
  • Prepares annual accounts, organises the audit of them and presents the results at the AGM.

Communications Coordinator

  • Coordinate P&C communications across all relevant channels (including social media, email, Compass etc);
  • Bring strategic thinking to P&C communications in order to maximise impact (considering frequency, content, choice of channel etc);
  • Help celebrate P&C wins and better engage with members, businesses and the wider community;
  • Role would suit someone who has graphic design skills, e.g. canva, or who has related experience such as media or marketing.

 These are casual roles that involve a few hours of work a month depending on what’s going on (some months could be busier than others).  They are, however, incredibly important for the School and provide an extremely rewarding experience for those that can contribute.  We have a long and proud history of volunteering at Balmain Public and we hope that our new parents can help carry this on.

If you’d like to nominate for a spot, then you need to be a member.  To do that you have to attend a meeting and make a gold coin donation.  To ensure that new parents have the best chance to get involved we'll hold a short ‘regular’ P&C meeting just before the AGM.  We'll then close that meeting and start the AGM so that attendees of the short meeting can then qualify for voting.

 If you have any questions about the process or being on the committee, please email us at balmainpspc@gmail.com.

Your P&C Exec - Lauren (mum of Ava in Year 3), Renate (mum of Lachlan and Jack in Years 6 & 4), Paul (dad of Jasper and Sammy in Years 4 & 2), Yann (dad of Yunxi in Year 5), Kara (mum of Lily Year 1), Tracy (mum of Aaron and Maya in Years 3 & 1) and Trista (mum of Charlie and Zachy in Year 3 & Kindy)

***COMPASS IS OUR MAIN FORM OF COMMUNICATING WITH YOU***In case of urgent/important communication, notifications via the Compass app on your phone will keep you informed***

To ensure you receive all communication via Compass, please have the app downloaded on your phone, with the notifications turned ON.

Although the school pushes out notifications via the app and email, there may be times when an important message may be missed as emails may sometimes not be checked regularly.

If there were to be an emergency, (hopefully not), information would be pushed out via Compass.
