Term 3 has certainly had a busy start and our stage two students have taken it on with great application. All students have settled well into their learning, working hard towards achieving their academic and personal goals. They are to be praised for their efforts with their learning and attitude towards all extra-curricular activities. Students have participated in Education Week, Jeans for Genes Day, School and Zone Athletics as well as attending the MADD performance at the high school.
Education week saw lots of events occurring within the stage two classrooms. Students continued to practice the poems, “Thirteen” by Margaret Speter and ’76 Flood’, by Ian Slacksmith. The students enjoyed the chance to perform these once again, especially to those parents who could not attend the Eisteddfod. Stage Two also performed “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. A special thank you goes to Mr. Bailey for all the preparation and advice to make this such a great production. It was great to see a huge turnout of stage two parents, who then stayed for a picnic lunch and classroom visits. All our parents participated enthusiastically in creating comics and playing Maths games with their children. During Education Week, students participated in a variety of group games involving students across all year levels. As always, Stage two demonstrated great sportsmanship and participation.
Stage two students have some exciting events happening during the rest of the term. Year 4 students are very excited about the opportunity to run assemblies and showcase their confidence when speaking in public. Lake Keepit preparations are well underway and we look forward to seeing Year 4 students challenging themselves in a range of activities during camp. All stage two students will be participating in a Touch Footy Gala Day at Cooma Oval, Thursday the 24th of August.
Students have been learning about a remarkable friendship, that was developed after the tsunami struck the coastal town of Malindi, Kenya, in 2004. Owen and Mzee is a story that students have become very engaged and interested in, during English lessons. Students are in the process of planning and writing a factual recount of the events that took place before and after the natural disaster.
Our Mathematics lessons continue to focus on skills that will help the students in real-life situations. Stage two have been focusing on developing skills for using position. Activities have included, using a compass, grid coordinates and creating directions for others to follow. We have also looked at strategies to use when completing addition and subtraction problems, giving students the opportunity to develop the confidence to select the strategy that is most efficient. During the rest of the term, we will be concentrating on volume and capacity, fractions and decimals as well as chance.
Sway is a program that Stage two students will be using to improve their technology skills and to produce quality publishing of their factual recounts in English. It allows creativity in how students present their publishing to others.
Students will be exploring natural environments and the way humans and animals interact with and the impact they have on these environments. This will result in students researching endangered animals and devising their own action plans to protect these animals before it is too late. It is impressive to see the thoughts and initiative that our students display.
This term during Creative Arts we are using a music program called “Amplify”. This program will enhance the knowledge of students when listening to and creating music. Students have been exploring and demonstrating their understanding of pitch, beat and rhythm. It is a fun-filled unit, with music professionals giving students an insight into the skills and techniques that are used.
Continue to check in on SeeSaw often, to see the achievements, goals, Friday Journals, activities and learning taking place within the classrooms. Students thoroughly enjoy posting their completed activities for you to see. We look forward to continuing to share these posts throughout the rest of the exciting term ahead.
