The Brush Telegraph

Week 5 – Term 4, 2023

Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

We are half way through the term and there is a hive of activity at school. Teachers are currently writing reports for students and these will go home to parents in week 9. Staff and students are channelling their creative side and preparing for our end of year celebration.

Congratulations to Mrs Jennifer Longstaff for being nominated and selected in the top 5 of the '2023 NSW Excellence in Environmental Education Awards'. She will be travelling to Sydney to attend a dinner, where the winner will be announced. We are very proud of her achievements and the amazing impact the Permi-culture garden has had on our students, staff and school. In our eyes she is already the winner, but we wish her all the best.

BRUSHWORKS

This year for our end of year celebration, we will be holding an event on the school grounds. It is called “Brush Works”. Parents and family are invited to join us on Wednesday 29 November from 6pm-8pm. It is a celebration of the arts. Students will be performing throughout the evening. The hall will be a gallery of magnificent pieces of art that each class has created together. The canvases will be auctioned off at the end of the evening.

We have a competition running across the Wingham Schools and the wider community from preschoolers through to adults, for 2D art. These will also be on display. See flyer below. Families are encouraged to bring along a blanket and picnic and enjoy the atmosphere and event. We look forward to seeing everyone.

FATHERING PROJECT

The fathering project has been a fabulous success and I would like to thank Mr Jason Goodwin for leading the project with enthusiasm and passion. Thankyou to all the dads and father figures that have supported throughout the year. We will be continuing in 2024, so if you haven’t been, look out for the next event.

We have a couple of events to finish off the year. On Friday 17 November 8:15am- 8:45am, come along in the morning for Fit Family Friday. Enjoy 30mins of family fun fitness before school starts. Mums, dads, grandparents and carers are all welcome to bring the kids to school a little early and start the day with a bit of laughter and exercise. Flyer is below.

On Tuesday 28 November the Fathering Project will be holding its final get together. Dads only are invited along to reconnect, give feedback and grab a bite to eat. Starts at 5pm at the Top Pub, Wingham. Flyer is below.

SCHOOL BYTES

We are excited to announce our school will be transitioning to School Bytes System. In preparation for the finance system we require all parents to ‘Create a new account’ in the School Bytes Parent Portal. Each parent/carer will have access to the Parent Portal. Please be aware that the parent/carer email address provided to the school must be used when creating a new account to be able to link your child/children. While our preference is for payments to be made via the School Bytes Parent Portal, we will still accept cash payments.

In the near future, communications will include permission notes, consent forms, correspondence, billing and online payments which will be utilised through the School Bytes Parent Portal.

Please note: The School Bytes Parent Portal is not for payment of school uniforms as they are managed by the Wingham Brush P&C Association.

Scan the barcode or visit https://portal.schoolbytes.education to create your new account.

INTENSIVE SWIMMING YEAR 2 ONLY

An intensive learn to swim program will be conducted from Monday 20 November to Friday 1 December. This program focuses on developing water confidence and swimming skills of students in Year 2. Students involved in the program received permission notes. Cost is $3.00 entry to the pool per day, season passes are accepted. All Year 2 students have been invoiced and payment can be made through the School Bytes Parent Portal.

NSW State PSSA Athletics Carnival

A phenomenal effort by Molly Stone last week as she competed in the NSW State PSSA Athletics Carnival that was held in Sydney. Her final results for her events at state were:

1500m 5min 48 sec (26th)

800m 2min 48 sec  (22nd)

What an awesome achievement!  Wingham Brush PS are extremely proud of your efforts and know you represent us beautifully at these events.

The Three Little Rascals

On Monday our Stage 3 classes went to the Wingham Town Library for story time with Mrs Stephen from Coopernook PS. Mrs Stephen accompanied by students Abbey, Layla, Delilah and Maddison from Coopernook PS and Eden from Wingham Brush PS did a reading of the book 'The Three Little Rascals'. The book was written and published by Eden and her class mates at Coopernook PS last year. The story is about their class pet guinea pigs and their trip to Sydney.
