Principal's Report

Dear JPS Community,

Substantive Principal Position

I would also like to share an update regarding the principal position at Jamberoo Public School. The role will be filled through a merit selection process early next term, in line with Department of Education procedures.

At the request of our Director, Educational Leadership, Bill Field, I will remain in the role of Relieving Principal for Term 1 to ensure continuity for our students, staff and families until the position is substantively filled.

Our focus remains on providing high-quality teaching and learning and maintaining the strong, caring culture of our school.

Thank You to Our School Community

As we reflect on another successful year, I would like to extend my thanks to the many people who make Jamberoo Public School such a special place.

To the JPS parents and carers, thank you for the trust you place in us each day. Your partnership is vital to everything we do. Your encouragement, open communication and support at home play a significant role in your children’s success. We are truly grateful for the strong and positive relationships we share with our families.

To our P&C, your contributions throughout the year have been invaluable. Through fundraising, volunteering and your genuine care for our students, you continue to enrich school life and create opportunities that would not be possible without your dedication. We deeply appreciate the support you provide to both our staff and students.

To our local Jamberoo businesses, sponsors, CWA ladies (gardening) and Grandma Nell (photographer), who support our school in so many ways throughout the year, and to those who have joined us at events, thank you for partnering with us and for your continued support of our school community.

To our dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff, thank you for the tireless commitment you bring to your work each day. Your professionalism, expertise and care ensure that every student is known, valued and supported. The successes we celebrate reflect your incredible efforts.

To Year 6, as you prepare to leave Jamberoo Public School, we want you to know how incredibly proud we are of each of you. You have led by example, supported one another and made our school a better place simply by being part of it. You have shared laughter, faced challenges and created memories that will stay with you long after you leave our gates. While it will be hard to say goodbye, we know you are ready for this next chapter, and we hope you carry with you the friendships, values and sense of belonging that have shaped you here as you step forward with courage and confidence.

And finally, to all our students, we could not be prouder. While your academic achievements are commendable; it is your kindness, resilience and willingness to support one another that truly shine. You make Jamberoo Public School such a nice place to come to everyday.

Farewell Miss Griffith

Miss Griffith (Kierra) has worked as an SLSO with us all year and is a true get-in-and-do-it person, always willing to support students and staff wherever needed. She has been balancing two jobs and is now moving into full-time work in her other role. We wish her all the very best and will miss her greatly.

The Week In View

Colour Run

What a fantastic and colourful day our Colour Run turned out to be! Smiles were everywhere as students ran, laughed and were showered in colour, water and encouragement throughout the afternoon.

A huge thank you to our amazing parent volunteers, who helped make the event so much fun - from spraying colour, running the sprinklers, setting up kiddie pools, and gleefully wetting students as they ran past, the energy and excitement were contagious. The joy on the children’s faces said it all!

A special congratulations to Aria, who fundraised the highest amount of money and was proudly awarded a cape and medal for her outstanding effort. Well done also to our other top fundraisers: Teddy (2nd place), Levi (3rd place) and Caelan (4th place).

A very big thank you to the Jamberoo Public School P&C - Sarah, Jess, Maureen and all the other parent helpers, who were absolutely amazing in organising and running such a successful event. Your dedication, teamwork and ongoing support continue to create memorable experiences for our students. It was a fun-filled afternoon and a great way to end the year.

Miss Louttit

Thank you to Maureen and Sarah who wanted out all of the prizes for the colour run. Also, Scarlett for her amazing help too!

We hope the students enjoy their prizes!

Leaders' Lunch

On Thursday last week, we held a special rewards lunch in the library for all of our leadership teams. Our Library Monitors, School Captains, House Captains, Technology Team and SRC were invited to enjoy hot chips and cordial as a big thank you for their hard work and the time they have devoted to the school throughout the year. Their commitment, reliability, and positive leadership have made a wonderful impact on our school community, and this lunch was a small way to show our appreciation.

BIG thank you to all of these students for their dedication and teamwork this year. Unfortunately, no photos were taken — everyone was far too busy enjoying their hot chips!

Author Visit

We were happy to welcome local author Chris to Jamberoo Public School. Chris Beaven has lived in Jamberoo for over 35 years and is the author of 'The Little Twig' series. As a generous gift to our school, every student received three of her books: Dreams Can Come True, Never Give Up and Never Walk Alone.

The stories were narrated by Twiggy and his family of trees, sharing meaningful messages about resilience, hope, friendship and the importance of having supportive people around you. The books also featured a special appearance by Greg Page, the original Yellow Wiggle, who is the fireman in the stories, highlighted the power of reading and the importance of words and encouragement in young people’s lives.

We are incredibly grateful to Chris for her generosity and for sharing her passion for storytelling with our students, making this visit a truly memorable experience for our school community.

Year 6 Vs. Teachers Tee-Ball Game

Today, our school community gathered to farewell Year 6 with a series of events that proved two things: Year 6 are very competitive and the teachers are also very competitive.

The afternoon kicked off with the highly anticipated Teachers vs Year 6 tee ball match, watched by parents and students from Kindergarten to Year 5. There were some impressive hits, some interesting fielding choices, and at least one moment where Will absolutely slogged the ball, much to the delight of the crowd. Year 6 went on to claim a well-earned victory.

A quick change of events brought on the Year 6 vs Teachers water fight, where strategy quickly gave way to chaos, laughter and very soggy staff and students. It is safe to say that no mercy was displayed.

We wrapped up the day with a farewell arch and the ringing of the bell, sending our Year 6 students off with cheers, smiles and best wishes for high school.

Farewell, Year 6!

Year 6 Formal

The Year 6 Formal was a lovely celebration and an important milestone for our students as they approach the end of their primary school years. It was a relaxed and enjoyable evening shared with friends, staff and families.

The taco/burrito bar, churros and ice cream bar were very popular, and the photo booth provided a fun way to capture the evening.

The slideshow was a heart-warming part of the night, reflecting on shared memories from across the year.

The parent and child Heel and Toe Polka was a special moment and a highlight for many, bringing families together and adding to the sense of occasion.

It was a fun and memorable evening and a fitting way to mark this important stage in our Year 6 students’ journey.

Mrs Milligan's speech to Year 6 at their Formal

Good evening everyone,

To my amazing Year 6s, tonight is a celebration of how far you have come… but it’s also a little bit of a goodbye, and those are never easy.

So I thought I’d share a few things I love… and a few things I won’t.

I love hearing about your weekends and the adventures you’ve been on, the sports wins, the sleepovers, the holidays and even the stories that start with, “Mrs Milligan, you won’t believe what happened…” or “Mrs Milligan, would your kids like 28 catfish that hatched in my fish tank last night?”

I love watching you challenge yourselves and then seeing the results, the moment something finally clicks, the pride on your faces when you realise, I can do this.

I love how much of a Year 6 family you have become, the way you look out for each other, support each other and celebrate each other’s successes.

I love the confident way you all say, “We already know this,” and then immediately realise… maybe we don’t.

I love the dramatic reactions when I say, “Ten at ten starts once we finish this one last task.”I love the resilience you show when things don’t go your way.

I love how you bounce back after setbacks.

I love the kindness you show without being asked.

I love how you’ve learned to take responsibility for your choices.

I love how much more confident you all are now than you were at the start of the year.

I love that you put up with my dad jokes, and even offer a sympathetic giggle when they really don’t deserve one.

I love that you care so much about my own kids, maybe just as much as Harper cares about her marshmallows, or have a cheeky smirk and quiet giggle when I say, “You’re about to make me lose my eyeballs."

And I love that you all laugh at me when my brain forgets that its job is to think. Let’s not even mention the interactive whiteboard incident of 2025.

But… with the things you love, there are always a few things you don’t love.

I don’t love that I won’t see your smiling faces walking around the playground each day, or coming to find me on playground duty as I pretend to run away from you.

I don’t love that I can’t call out, “Hey, Lexie wants the ball!” while she glares at me in disgust and then attempts to turn invisible on any given sports field.

I don’t love that I won’t see your brains processing like the spinning wheel on a computer when we’re learning complex things, or playing silent ball, Zane, I’m looking at you.

I don’t love that I won’t get those dramatic reactions when you ask, “What books do we need?” and I say, “Spelling, English and maths.”

I don’t love that I won’t get to watch you grow just a little bit more each day.

I don’t love that I won’t be there for the moments when things feel tricky and you push through anyway.

I don’t love that I won’t hear your voices filling the classroom every morning.

I don’t love that this is the last time I’ll get to call you my Year 6 class.

And I don’t love that this chapter has to end.

But what I do love is knowing that you are ready.

Ready for new challenges, new friendships, new teachers and new opportunities. Ready to take everything you’ve learned here, not just reading, writing and maths, but kindness, resilience, teamwork and confidence, with you into high school and beyond.

I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Thank you for the laughs, the memories, the hard work and the moments that made this year so special.

Year 6, you will always be a part of our school… and you will always be a part of my heart.

Good luck, be brave, and never stop being you.

Mrs Milligan

Flowers from the Formal

A big thank you to Erica for donating the beautiful flower arrangements for the Year 6 formal.

With her permission, following the formal Mrs Milligan wrapped the flowers and delivered them to Blue Haven Retirement Village in Kiama for residents and staff to enjoy.

The staff at Blue Haven were incredibly grateful and shared that the flowers would be gifted to residents who may not receive visitors over the Christmas period.

We are so pleased that these arrangements will continue to bring joy beyond our school community.

Class Spotlight

Nanga Mai

What a wonderful way to finish the year! This week has been full of fun, laughter and special memories. The students did an amazing job at the Christmas concert and had an absolute blast taking part in the fun run.

On Thursday, we enjoyed a fantastic class party and disco. There was lots of dancing, games and celebrating together, making it a perfect way to wrap up an incredible year.

Thank you to all our students for their enthusiasm, effort and positivity throughout the year, and a huge thank you to parents and carers for your ongoing support. It has truly been a pleasure teaching Nanga Mai this year.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and relaxing holiday break.

Mrs Peterson

Walabi

Walabi students really got into this craft activity!

Thank you to all our generous families for your food donations. We had an amazing class party!

Mrs McCormack

5/6 Cooinda

I am incredibly proud of our students for their outstanding participation and performances over the past two weeks. From the Jamberoo Carols and our Christmas concert at school to various extra-curricular activities, it has been wonderful to see everyone sprinting with enthusiasm as we approach the end of the year.

To wrap up the term, our students had a unique and hands-on experience with a honey harvest from my hives at home in Jamberoo. Dressed in beekeeping suits, they learned all about personal protective equipment and hive tools. The day included taste-testing fresh honeycomb and honey, as well as learning how to de-cap the frames and extract the honey using a honey spinner. Each student had the chance to manually turn the crank and experience the process firsthand. It was truly a sweet way to finish the term!

We’re now looking forward to our class party and disco today—what a fantastic way to celebrate the year! Congratulations to all our graduating Year 6 students, and best wishes to Year 5 as they step up to their final year of primary school next year.

Merry Christmas!

Mr Reed

Library

Library Lunchtime Opening a Wonderful Success

Opening the library on Wednesdays and Thursdays during lunchtime has proven to be a fantastic success for our students. What began as a trial to provide an alternative play option has quickly become a valued part of our weekly routine.

The library offers a calm, welcoming space where students can enjoy a quieter lunchtime twice a week. Many children choose to spend their break engaging in a range of peaceful activities such as reading, drawing, board games, construction play, creative activities, or simply relaxing with friends in a comfortable environment.

Teachers have noticed that students appreciate having a place to unwind, especially those who find the playground overwhelming or who enjoy quieter, more focused play. The variety of activities available encourages imagination, cooperation, and social skills, all while fostering a love of learning and creativity.

The positive response from students has shown how important it is to offer diverse lunchtime options that cater to different needs and interests. We look forward to continuing the lunch time quiet play sessions and exploring new ways to keep this space inviting, inclusive, and engaging for all.
