Message from the Principal

Reflecting on the Boarding House Review

Last week, Lae International School welcomed the Boarding House Review team as part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and educational excellence. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our Board Members, parents, the IEA Director of Education, students, and staff who contributed their time, perspectives, and expertise throughout the review process.

The strong engagement from all stakeholders highlights the strength of our school community and our shared commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for our students. We look forward to receiving and sharing the review findings with our community in the coming weeks and using the recommendations to further strengthen our Boarding House.

Vehicle Access Stickers Commence This Week

A reminder to all parents and regular drivers that our new vehicle access procedures commence this week, beginning Monday, 3 August.

To enter the school car parks, drivers will be required to display a school vehicle access sticker or present a valid Parent Access Card. Either form of identification is acceptable for entry.

Drivers who do not have an access sticker or Parent Access Card will be asked to pull to the side and sign in with the security guard before being granted access.

These measures form part of our ongoing safeguarding programme and are designed to enhance the safety and security of all members of our school community. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we implement these important procedures.

Best Wishes to Our Grade 12 Students

I would also like to wish our Grade 12 students every success as they commence their national examinations. On Monday, 3 August, students sat the Written Expression examination, marking the beginning of an important period in their academic journey.

We are proud of the commitment, resilience, and determination our students have demonstrated throughout their studies. We encourage them to approach each examination with confidence and to trust in the preparation they have undertaken. The entire school community is behind them, and we wish them the very best in the weeks ahead.

Looking Ahead

As we move through Term 3, there is much to celebrate across our school. Thank you to our students for their enthusiasm, our staff for their dedication, and our parents for their continued partnership and support. Together, we continue to build a strong, caring, and successful learning community.

Deputy Principal's Notices

As we reach the halfway point of the term, it has been wonderful to see our students embracing the many learning opportunities available both inside and outside the classroom. This week has been particularly exciting, with several year groups participating in valuable educational excursions and students across both campuses engaging in a wide range of extracurricular activities.

Our Year 5, 6 and 7 students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Doulos Hope, a floating library and unique educational vessel that travels the world promoting knowledge, literacy and cultural understanding. Students explored the ship, learned about its mission, and experienced the vast collection of books and resources available on board. The excursion provided students with valuable insights into global communities, the importance of literacy, and the opportunities that exist to learn from people and cultures around the world. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they engaged with this unique learning experience.

Today, our Year 12 students attended an excursion to the University of Technology, where they explored the wide range of tertiary education pathways and opportunities available to them beyond school. Experiences such as these are invaluable in helping students make informed decisions about their future studies and careers. By engaging directly with university staff, facilities and programs, students gained a greater understanding of the possibilities that await them after graduation.

This week, the Secondary Assessment Schedule was distributed to parents and caregivers. This schedule provides an excellent opportunity for families to engage in meaningful conversations with their child about their learning and upcoming assessment tasks. We encourage parents to review the schedule together with their child, helping them to stay organised, meet deadlines and maintain steady progress throughout the term. Often, a gentle reminder, encouragement or check-in can make a significant difference in helping students stay on track.

At the beginning of the term, all secondary students participated in a planning session during Homeroom. Students reflected on their results from last term, set academic goals, mapped out their assessment due dates and developed personalised study timetables. As we move into Week 5 next week, now is an excellent time for parents and caregivers to revisit these plans with their child. Discussing their progress, celebrating achievements and identifying any areas where additional support may be needed can help students remain committed to the goals they have set for themselves.

It has also been fantastic to see such a wide range of Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) being offered across both campuses. These activities provide students with unique opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence, form friendships and explore interests beyond the classroom. ECAs are a critical component of our commitment to providing a holistic education that nurtures the academic, social, emotional and personal growth of every student. We strongly encourage families to support their child's participation so they can take full advantage of the rich opportunities available and gain the most from their LIS educational experience.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we can continue to encourage our students to challenge themselves, pursue excellence and make the most of every opportunity presented to them.

Head of Primary Campus Notices

Dear Parents and Carers,

Congratulations to Grade 4TP for their wonderful display of learning during this week's assembly. We also applaud the students who received awards for demonstrating excellent teamwork.

A special thank you to our Grade 8 parents for making the time to attend your child's meeting this week. Your partnership and support is greatly appreciated.

Next week is all about celebrating learning in our Early Years (ELC to Grade 2). We will be hosting an Open Morning on Friday, where families are invited to come and share in the wonderful work of our young learners.

Open Morning Schedule:

  • ELC and Preschool: 8:00am - 9:30am
  • Prep to Grade 2: 9:00am - 10:15am

Please bring a friend along or help spread the word to prospective families who may be interested in joining our school community.

Our students in Grades 5, 6 and 7 had the opportunity to visit the Doulos Hope ship this week. They represented our school exceptionally well and were very well behaved throughout their visit.

Next week, teachers from Prep to Grade 7 will be sending home invitations for parents to confirm their attendance at their child's Student-Led Conference. These conferences provide an opportunity for students to take the lead in sharing their learning and achievements with their parents. Please kindly complete and return the form to your child's class teacher. This event will take place in Week 7.

We also ask for your continued support in ensuring that students come to school wearing the correct school uniform, including their school hat each day.

End of Week 4, Term 3 - 2026

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Staff,

As we reach the end of the fourth week of Term 3, I would like to commend our students and staff for a fantastic start to the term. The first three weeks have progressed smoothly, with students demonstrating a positive attitude towards learning and school life. It has been particularly pleasing to see strong engagement in classes, and commitment to academic excellence across all year levels.

Grade 10 Science Practical Examinations

Congratulations to all year 10s for successfully completing the Grade 10 science practical examination last week Monday.

Grade 12 UPNG University of Technology Open Day

Our Grade 12 students have participated in the PNG University of Technology (Unitech) Open Day on Friday July 31, 2026.

We hope this event has provided students with valuable information about tertiary education opportunities, university life, and future career pathways.

Thanks to all parents who have given the consent through Audiri.

Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs)

Our Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) remain an important part of the educational experience at Lae International School. Participation in ECAs provides students with opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence, strengthen teamwork and leadership abilities, and foster positive relationships outside the classroom.

We encourage all students to take advantage of the wide range of activities available and to participate regularly. These opportunities complement academic learning and contribute significantly to the development of well-rounded individuals. We thank our staff who continue to dedicate their time and effort to providing meaningful and engaging activities for our students. We look forward to seeing strong participation throughout the term.

  • Seek assistance from teachers whenever required.
  • Continue demonstrating the positive attitudes and commitment that have made the start of this term such a success.

There are many photo opportunities at our school and student images are often used in publications, such as the Newsletter, and displayed online through the school website / Facebook and Instagram pages. Student images will continue to be featured in the Newsletter, website and other media this year.
