From the Principal

Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,

Remembrance Day

On Friday the 10th of November our Stage 3 students led our Remembrance Day assembly to honour the Australians who fought and fell in the First World War and the generations who have followed them in the service of our country.

Colour Run

Thank you to all the students and families for your amazing efforts fundraising for the Colour Run so far. Last week a very brave and amazing teacher (Mrs Peade) put her hand up to be slimed. Thank you Mrs Peade for being such a good sport, the students absolutely loved it! The Colour Run will be on Tuesday the 21st of November, starting at 1:30pm. Parents are welcome to come along and watch. Please jump onto School Bytes and sign the permission note for your child to participate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to wear?

Wear WHITE or old clothes if you want to be ‘coloured’. If your child wants to run but doesn’t want to be hit with colour, it is suggested they wear BLACK so that all teachers and volunteers can clearly identify these students. Students can wear their colour run clothes to school. It is recommended that students wear goggles or sunglasses.

What else will be happening? We will be selling cupcakes for $2 and Ice blocks for 50c

Who will be throwing the colour?

JPS staff and parent volunteers will be throwing the colour on students. There will not be any students throwing colour for safety reasons.

Will there be water?

Students will have the option to be wet by a water gun before running. This helps the colour stick a bit better. JPS staff and parent volunteers will be using the water guns. No students will be involved in wetting students for safety reasons.

Can parents and siblings join in?

The colour run is only for JPS students who have signed the permission form to participate. Parents and siblings will not be able to participate. Parents and siblings are welcome to come and watch and cheer the runners on.

Killalea Excursion

Kindergarten (Wombarra), Year 1 (Birrahlee) and Years 2/3 (Kookaaraa) are off on a geography excursion to Killalea. This program examines the natural and human features of Killalea State Park, exploring the way in which the Park has changed and ways in which this significant place can be cared for. Students will investigate the diverse range of natural and built places and how they have been used for a variety of purposes over time. Please sign the permission note as soon as possible so we can confirm the number of students attending.

The Jamberoo Journal

Mrs Brooks and a dedicated team of students have been working very hard to create this weeks Jamberoo Journal.

HPAG Extend classes

Over the past 25 school weeks, 240 students, from Helensburgh to Kiama Public Schools, have participated in our HPAG Extend classes. These weekly classes have been conducted across eight host schools throughout the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions. Our primary objective with these sessions is to nurture the spirit of curiosity, encourage discovery, and stimulate creativity among High Potential and Academically Gifted students.

This year, it is with immense pride that we acknowledge the commitment and dedication of the following students from Jamberoo Public School.

To mark the culmination of this year's program, we celebrated with the Curiosity and Creativity Exhibition where students had the opportunity to share some of their learning. The afternoon commenced with our presentation highlighting our areas that we have been working on such as Computer Aided Drafting, 3D printing, Future Cities Pitches, building digital escape rooms, writing mythology-based stories, sharing our diabolical shard.

After the presentation our guests then had the privilege of exploring an array of exhibits that had been meticulously crafted with creativity, driven by a continuous thirst for knowledge, and organised with thoughtful precision. The exhibits encompassed a wide spectrum of learning experiences, including crafted stories and scripts, digital escape rooms, lithium atoms, Pi Artworks, digital and hand drawn games encompassing the periodic table of elements and delving into artificial intelligence, why supernovas are so important to name a few.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to these exceptional students for their courage in embracing a new and challenging learning environment, not just academically but socially and emotionally as well. We commend their efforts in grappling with concepts that extend far beyond the typical primary school curriculum. They've ventured into the realms of the universe's evolution, delving into topics like the Big Bang theory, star formation, the emergence of elements, and even mathematical concepts typically introduced in years 7-9. They've also explored the intriguing world of mythology and cuneiforms and solved some very out-of-the-box thinking challenges.

Thank you to all the participating students, our wonderful host schools, and the dedicated team of school executives who have played an integral role in making this entire program possible. We can’t wait for next year!

Year 5 High Potential and Gifted (HPAG) class graduates

Atticus and Ava last Friday at their HPAG class for talented Year 5 students across the district. The weekly sessions culminated with an expo attended by parents and teachers. Atticus shared the tricky computer game he and his team created, while Ava showcased her interesting work on evolution. Both students were terrific representatives of our school and reaped the benefits of this enrichment opportunity, as evidenced by their review of the program below:

Illawarra and South East team are state champions

Huge congratulations to Reece who was selected to be part of the Illawarra and South East debating team. Reece travelled to Sydney last week to contend with the other 9 regions around NSW. It is with great pride that I can share that Reece and his team mates were crowned the state champion debaters, following a win in the grand final against a strong North Sydney region. An amazing effort from our skilled debater, Reece!
