Principal's Report

Dear JPS Families,

Week 7 was another big and exciting week at Jamberoo Public School. Our K-2 students enjoyed their Science Centre excursion and six students attended Immersion Day at Kiama High School. We also had a wonderful day at Jamberoo Recreation Park with our Stage 3 students. Thank you to our dedicated teachers and support staff for ensuring our students were safe, supported and able to have plenty of fun.

A huge thank you to our P&C and our parent community for volunteering at the annual P&C Santa Photos at The Farm. I have heard it was a very positive two-day event. These events do not run without the support and generosity of our dedicated families. Thank you as well to everyone who popped over for a photo and helped make the event such a success.

After many weeks of work, I feel like I have finally seen the light with our website upgrade. We will continue to update the site regularly to showcase all the wonderful learning and community events happening at Jamberoo Public School. If you have a moment, please jump online and take a look: https://jamberoo-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

Mrs Behl Shanks, Zahli, Kiara, Scarlett, Maeve and Elsie will be heading to the KCoS Debating Day at Kiama High School tomorrow. We wish them the very best of luck.

At our recent KCoS meeting, the idea of an interschools drama competition was raised. We look forward to supporting students in the High Potential and Gifted Education space with this opportunity next year.

This Thursday I will be offsite with a group of students who have been selected to take part in a science High Potential and Gifted Education program at Killalea.

On Thursday evening we will hold our final P&C meeting for the year. If you are free, please come along to the Jamberoo Bowling Club at 7 pm.

Assembly this Friday will begin at 2 pm to allow extra time for our finalists to present their Jamberoo Jabber student speeches. We hope to see you there.

Looking ahead, our students will be performing at Carols in the Park on Tuesday 9 December. I am sure you have been hearing all the rehearsals at home and I thank you for supporting your child in being part of this special community event.

Semester 2 academic reports will go out digitally to families towards the end of week 10. I will notify families when these go out.

As many of you may be aware, Mr Spiers has relinquished his principalship at Jamberoo Public School. The principal position will now go to merit selection and our Director Educational Leadership is finalising the panel this week. I will keep our community updated as more information becomes available.

Kind regards,

Katie Louttit

Stage 3 Excursion to Jamberoo Action Park

This week, our Stage 3 students enjoyed an exciting and fun-filled day at Jamberoo Action Park! The excursion provided a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in physical activity, experience teamwork, and create lasting memories outside the classroom. From thrilling water slides to relaxing rides, everyone found something to enjoy. The weather was in our favour, and the students demonstrated excellent behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the trip. A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped make this adventure possible. One of the great things about the Action Park is that so many students have different highlights, from having the cabana shelters, to the Perfect Storm, the Wave Pool, Stinger and chair lift.

We look forward to Stage 3 students enjoying this experience next year!

Kiama Community of Schools Cultural Immersion Day

Last Thursday, six students represented our school at the Kiama Community of Schools Cultural Immersion Day held at Kiama High School. It was a rich and meaningful experience that gave students the chance to learn more about Aboriginal culture through a range of engaging activities.

Students took part in a smoking ceremony and yarning circle, where they listened, shared and reflected in a respectful and welcoming space. They also enjoyed learning how to weave, creating beautiful sand art and tasting traditional johnny cakes, which were a big hit. A fun highlight of the day was getting to visit and use the school canteen.

The six students who attended represented our school wonderfully, showing great behaviour, respect and enthusiasm throughout the day. It was a valuable experience that strengthened their understanding of culture.

For Year 6

Garden Club

It's getting exciting up in the garden as we wrap up for the year!

This week we had Years 3-6 in the garden for the final time and they were excited to help begin the harvesting of the garlic! This is about our fourth year of growing our own garlic and we reuse some of our individual cloves to reseed each year, so this crop is truly getting adjusted to our microclimate. We also worked on putting another garden bed 'to sleep' for the summer by feeding it comfrey leaves and a nice big dose of lucerne hay.

We are so excited to have received our grant from the Jamberoo CWA that has paid for the wheelchair-accessible garden bed (including what goes in the bed) and also for the replacement of some of our wooden garden beds, which are rotting. We plan on continuing this project early in 2026 and you might be able to help us at a working bee!

Class Spotlight

Last week, Kindergarten students enjoyed a wonderful and exciting excursion to the Science Centre. The day was filled with hands on learning, discovery, and lots of smiles!

Students worked together to build impressive Lego towers, using their creativity and problem-solving skills to design strong and stable structures. We also watched an interactive science show all about forces, where the students learnt how pushes, pulls, and different types of movement affect objects. A highlight of the day was our visit to the planetarium, where we explored a magical night sky filled with stars and constellations. They also enjoyed experimenting with the many hands-on displays and exhibits throughout the centre.

Back at school, we recently presented our item on kindness as part of our Grow Your Mind focus. The students did a fabulous job and showcased their wonderful singing. They have been learning about what kindness looks like in the classroom and playground, and how small acts of care can make a big difference. I am very proud of the confidence they showed on stage and the thoughtful discussions they have been having about being kind to themselves and others.

In maths, we have been learning about three-dimensional objects. Students have explored spheres, cubes, cones, cylinders and rectangular prisms, identifying their features and describing how they can be found in everyday life. Through hands-on activities, building tasks and classroom investigations, the class have enjoyed sorting objects, creating models and using mathematical language to explain their thinking. Their excitement and curiosity have been wonderful to see.

It has been a fantastic week of learning, creativity and enthusiasm from all of our Kindergarten students.

Birrahlee’s Exciting Excursion to Science Space

Last Monday, Birrahlee had a fantastic day out at Science Space, located at The University of Wollongong. Our students eagerly engaged in a variety of hands-on activities that made learning science fun and interactive.

We started by exploring the structure of some famous towers, discussing what makes them strong enough to stand tall and withstand forces. Then, the students took on the challenge of building a tower out of Lego that was at least 30cm high, testing their creativity and engineering skills.

Next, we enjoyed a captivating science show that demonstrated the effects of different forces in action. Following this, the excitement continued in the planetarium, where we sat comfortably in reclined seats to gaze up at the dome-shaped ceiling illuminated with stunning star constellations.

To finish our day, we had plenty of time to explore the amazing interactive exhibits, allowing the students to experiment and learn through play. We also had morning tea and lunch in the beautiful garden setting, making the day even more memorable. Of course, the bus ride to and from the venue was a highlight, filled with chatter and smiles.

It was a wonderful excursion that sparked curiosity and inspired a love of science in everyone!

Last week, our class had an amazing time on our excursion to the UOW Science Space. Students loved exploring the interactive exhibits and getting involved in lots of fun, hands-on science activities that kept everyone engaged and excited throughout the day. One of the most popular activities was the STEM LEGO challenge, where students worked together to create and build their own designs, using problem-solving and creativity. A real highlight for many students was the planetarium experience. Seeing the stars and planets light up across the dome was unforgettable and left everyone in awe as they learned more about space. Students had so much fun trying out the different science experiments and interactive displays, showing great enthusiasm and teamwork. It was a fantastic day full of learning, laughter and discovery, and a wonderful experience for everyone involved.

Grow Your Mind

Grow Your Mind Club

We are inspired by our students’ initiative to support one another and build resilience and friendship through the Grow Your Mind club. This lunchtime group led by Evie, Pippa, Sophia and Amelia provide a welcoming and safe space where students come together to foster connections, share positive ideas and strengthen their mental wellbeing.

Through Grow Your Mind, students are developing valuable skills to manage challenges, build confidence, and cultivate a growth mindset—all while forming meaningful friendships.

This student-led initiative is helping to create a community where everyone feels supported, empowered and motivated to grow both their minds and their relationships.

We are proud to see our students leading the way and encouraging others to join the journey and grow together!

Don’t Forget Your Library Bag!

To help keep our library books in great condition, we ask that all students bring a library bag when borrowing books. A bag keeps books dry, clean, and protected, helping them last longer for all our readers to enjoy.

Please check that your child has a library bag each week so they can safely borrow and return books. Thank you for helping us look after our library collection!
