Our school is once again participating in the NSW government reading initiative, the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC). This state-wide challenge will operate from 26th February – 23rd August 2024. It enables students to experience quality literature and fosters a love of reading. The PRC encourages students to engage with a range of exciting stories and explore topics that can challenge their thinking, expand their vocabulary and widen their horizons through unfamiliar subjects.

Students are required to read a certain number of books according to their age, to complete the challenge and receive a 2024 PRC certificate.

The required number of books are:

Students in Kinder, Years 1& 2 have already commenced the challenge at school during library and class time. They will complete the PRC at school with their details being entered for them.

Students from Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 are required to enter their books ONLINE themselves.

To do this:

  • Open up a web page then type in the words PRC 2024
  • On the left hand side of the page click the LOGON link
  • Students enter their school username and password
  • Once logged on they go to Student Reading Record
  • Enter the books using the PRC Number or title
  • Click Add (it automatically updates)
  • Then Logoff

There are PRC reading lists on the site so students can search for suitable books.

Once the students have completed the challenge and entered all the books on the website, they print off their completed reading record, have a parent sign it to confirm that the correct books have been read and bring to the library so we can validate their entry.

Students who have trouble accessing a computer at home or adding their books, can come to the library second half lunch for assistance.

All Year 3-6 students will have an opportunity to register and enter books online during library lessons.

Students in Years 3-6 who choose to complete the PRC challenge could also record the same books in their home reading journals.

The determination and hard work of all students who complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge is acknowledged at a special assembly in November, when they are presented with their certificates.
