Principal's Reflection

Dear St Joseph's Catholic Primary School Community.

It is with profound appreciation and gratitude that I share my final message as Principal of our beloved school. As I gracefully pass the reins to Hayley, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and trust in her leadership for the upcoming term. Her dedication, coupled with our incredible team promises to be a bright future for St Joseph's.

The recent week of festivities and farewell touched my heart deeply. Feeling appreciated by this community is a privilege I will forever cherish.  I want to thank each one of you for granting me the honour of working alongside you. Together we've learned that our humanity lies in our imperfections, and these imperfections are what make us uniquely beautiful. St Joseph's truly embodies this spirit.

We are all boundlessly capable of achieving wonders, regardless of age. It all comes down to the choices we make - to be positive, kind, courageous, responsible, and respectful. These choices define us as a community and as individuals.

My sincere thanks extend to every parent, caregiver, staff member, and student who has been a part of St Joseph's since the beginning of my journey here in 2020. Together, we've achieved greatness and I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support.

I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to Fr. Albert, Fr. Anton, Fr. Hyu, and Fr. Frank for their endless support from the St Andrew's Parish and MACS, particularly Denise Mugavin, Natacha and Juliette Cox.

As we turn the page to the next chapter, may St Joseph's continue to shine brightly in the West with Troy Rickard as our Principal, radiating the warmth, inclusivity, and timeless potential that define our wonderful community.

With heartfelt gratitude and warm wishes for the future.

Shelley

Principal, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

STUDENT VOICE - Year 2

We had lots of fun during Book Week. We read lots of different stories and completed lots of fun activities about these books. The highlight was definitely dressing up for our Book Week parade on Friday.

In Writing, we have been writing persuasive texts. We have been choosing our opinion on a variety of topics and recording reasons to support our thinking.

In Maths, we have just finished our Subtraction unit, using the cohort approach. The students worked really well across the 2 classes and enjoyed learning different strategies to assist them in solving subtraction problems.

In Religion, we have been learning about living in right relationships with God, ourselves and others. We have made connections between our behaviour matrix and some scripture stories.

In Inquiry, we have been very busy preparing for the Art Show. We have enjoyed exploring lots of different techniques and getting an opportunity to show our creativeness in our art pieces.

Hazel: Shelley is beautiful, kind, sweet and very smart.

Max: Shelley, your kindness has inspired us to do some art about you.

Ivy: Shelley you are kind and thoughtful and I am going to miss you so much.

Jeremy: You are the best Principal ever Shelley.

Philip: I love you Shelley, you are kind.

Harshi: You are the best. I know that you are going to do amazing things at your new school!

Harrisen: You are the best principal in the world! You always try your best!

On Friday we had our Colour Run. We had so much fun and loved seeing Shelley and Bridget get slimed at the end of the afternoon.

KITCHEN GARDEN

During Kitchen Garden sessions on Monday, Foundation students had an incursion all about local frogs. To coincide with the start of the Kulin Nation season of Poorneet (Tadpole Season); we had a visit from the Werribee River Association. Charlotte shared lots of information about local frog species and we heard all about frog life cycles, habitats and we even heard different frog calls. We also planted lots of new native plants around the frog pond to improve our frog habitat area. Frogs are an indicator of clean waterways and it is great to see them appearing in our school grounds.

Foundation Geelong Art Gallery and Museum of Play and Art Excursion

Our Foundation students enjoyed a creative and engaging experience to celebrate our Inquiry learning this term when visiting the Geelong Art Gallery and the Museum of Play and Art. (MOPA) We visited the Geelong Art Gallery and saw some magnificent and amazing artworks. Our next stop was MOPA where we all enjoyed a place to play, learn and create.

Here are some of our highlights!

LITERACY UPDATE

Helpers Please: On the 4th of October from 8:30am-12pm Susan is looking for some parent helpers who love to sort and unpack books. The job will be a bit dusty for some parts as some of the books are stored in the shed and will need to be moved and unpacked.  We will then be sorting and categorising home readers, reading sets and library books to be used across the school. Any help across the time will be greatly appreciated and Susan will supply you with a lovely lunch for your great efforts. Please email Susan at susan.millard@sjwerribee.catholic.edu.au if you are available. A lunch will be provided for helpers after we finish so please let Susan know of any dietary requirements you have in the same email.
