ZIG ZAG Public School

Term 4 Week 2

Principals report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 4! We hope you and your children had a restful break and are feeling refreshed and ready for what promises to be a busy and exciting term ahead. I will be relieving as principal for the next couple of weeks while Mrs Gillmore takes some well-deserved leave following the recent loss of her mother. We send our heartfelt support to Mrs Gillmore during this time.

It’s wonderful to see the sun shining again! We would like to remind all students about our hat policy: children must wear a school-approved hat or a plain black hat when outside. If they do not have a hat, they will be required to play only in the shade to stay protected from the sun.

There are many fun and exciting events coming up this term, with the Year 5/6 excursion to Milson Island being a standout highlight for our primary students. Additionally, we will be celebrating Grandparents Day in Week 3 — details will be shared shortly.

Well Done to Tanner Dean, Myah Burnette, and Elijah Barnes for representing our school at the Western Athletics Carnival in Dubbo — we are so proud of you!

Congratulations to Noah Hunter, Jyrell Butfield, and Samuel Small for having their artwork selected to represent NSW public schools in the 2025 Nagoya Sister City Art Exchange. This is a wonderful achievement and a true recognition of your talent and creativity. Your artworks—“Toucan,” “The Australian Bush,” and “The Dish”—showcase the unique perspectives and artistic skills that make you stand out. We are very proud of you and look forward to seeing your contributions celebrated internationally!

Finally, congratulations to Tanner Dean, our Village Voice Student of the Month, recognised for his outstanding success in Athletics!

We’re excited for a fun and busy Term 4 ahead and can’t wait to warmly welcome Mrs Gillmore back later in the term.!

Welcome Back for Term 4

Our students have had a wonderful first week in Term Four, with lots of exciting learning in classroms and fun with friends.

What a lovely way to finish the week on a sunny Friday afternoon with a Year Six Zooper Dooper fundraiser.

Anxiety Project

Starting in Week 3, each class at Zig Zag Public School will complete another round of 8 lessons developed in line with our ongoing work in The Anxiety Project.

These lessons have been created by a range of teachers and principals and are designed to build upon and complement the lessons from last year.

Students across K–6 will learn about their amygdalae and how these can sometimes need to be spoken to in order to help calm their anxiety or worry.

They will also learn how one calm brain can settle another, as well as different techniques and self-talk strategies they can use to settle themselves down or help someone else.

These lessons will commence next week and continue throughout the rest of 2025.

Zig Zag Choir

Our little choir is practising hard for our end of year performance at presentation day.

We have been working on pronunciation, projecting our voices, and adding some harmonies. we meet on Wednesdays at lunch time.

Minecraft Club - Creativity, Collaboration and Competition!

Our Zig Zag Minecraft Club runs weekly, offering students a space to be creative, build with friends and develop social and teamwork skills in a fun, supportive environment.

This term, we have two Minecraft Club teams meeting twice a week to work hard on their submissions to the Schools Esports Minecraft Competition. Their challenge is to design a future-focused precinct for the Australian Open, showcasing innovation, sustainability and creativity.

Students are problem-solving, planning and building collaboratively each week. As David shared, “I love being part of the club because it’s fun working with friends and learning new skills,” and Noah added, “I love Minecraft Club because it’s fun being creative with friends.”

Our students will submit their builds at the end of November, and we can’t wait to see their final designs come together!

Puffing Billies

Term Four has started beautifully for our Puffing Billies! They’ve continued building friendships and getting to know their wonderful Year 5 buddies, while learning all about numbers, counting, and patterns in the world around them.

They have enjoyed the sunshine in the playground, and had plenty of fun with free play, adventures, and craft.

Puffing Billies runs every Thursday 9.15am - 11am, during Term Four.

If your child is starting school in 2026, come and join the fun.
