Caves Beach Public School Newsletter

Term 3 Weeks 7 & 8: 28th August - 8th September 2023

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 8 Term 3 Caves Beach Public School for 2023!

Book Week and Art Show.

I would like to thank all our staff for the very successful Book Week event and amazing student Art Show. It is always fantastic to invite our community into our school to share these special days with us, but they do take some work. A particular mention to Mrs Tiananga for her vision and effort in making the Art Show a reality and Ms Tonks for her passion and organisation to create a magnificent Book Week event.

Father’s Day BBQ Breakfast

A huge thank you to Mandy Tyndall and her team who organised a wonderful Father’s Day BBQ breakfast last Friday. There was a huge turn out of fathers, grandfathers and significant males who came along to enjoy breakfast and some time with their children. Mandy was even able to manage the weather keeping the rain at bay till the last minute!

Make My Day

Over the past weeks I have had some very talented students visit to share their work. Today I even had two ‘farmers’ from the environmental group show me an impressive cauliflower they have nurtured through to picking.

Robbie, Grace, Tyde and Lewis from 1H shared their poems about clouds. All the poems rhymed and had accompanying illustrations. What an impressive job!

Koby from 5/6L shared his remarkable opening paragraph which set the tone perfectly. His use of similes, personification and descriptive language was most impressive. Well done, Koby.

Parent Visitors

To maintain safety for all our students, parents who assist in classrooms or bring students into school late, please remember to sign/check in at the office and leave promptly after the classroom session. Students who are late arrivals or are returning to school after appointments are to be left at the front office and escorted to class if necessary by office staff.

Another strength you can grow is CREATIVITY.

Being creative means to think of new ways to do things in the

classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show CREATIVITY we use our ELEPHANT and WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because it helps us find our state of ‘flow’.

      You can display CREATIVITY by:

thinking of multiple ways to solve a problem

making up interesting games and exploring different ways to play them

writing or drawing something that is unique, just like you

starting a new creative activity like singing in the choir, playing a musical instrument or performing in drama

"Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It creates its own

perfect moments out of ordinary ones."

Check-in Assessment for Year 3, 4, 5 & 6

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 3 and Term 4, students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 6 students during Term 3 Weeks 8 – 10.
  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 3, 4 & 5 students during Term 4 Weeks 1-4.

  • All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing assessment.

Art Show

Thank you to all the visitors who came to see our ‘2023 Art Show’ today.  The quality of the students' work was outstanding.

Book Parade

Last Thursday there were plenty of colourful characters at Caves Beach Public School for the 2023 Book Parade! We aren't sure who had more fun ... the students or the staff.

Tip 3 - Eating for a Healthy Mind

Write a shopping list together with your children to involve your children in healthy choices for school lunches. Discuss healthier food and drink choices. Go for variety and colour with different coloured vegetables, hard boiled eggs and fruit. Healthy lunches and snacks

Find out what fruit is in season. Teach children to love leftovers and using leftovers is a great way to minimise food waste. Leftover pasta or fried rice or noodles in a thermos make a great healthy satisfying lunch.

Congratulations to Isla from Year 6 who competed for the Hunter Team at the NSW PSSA State championships last week. Isla had a fantastic tournament and helped the Hunter team finish 5th in the State.

Environmental Group

OLD THONGS WANTED THIS WEEK!

The Enviro Group have been looking after our plants for the competition garden bed that is being entered in the Living Smart Festival on the 16th of September. We are making a flower sculpture for the festival out of old bicycle wheels and thongs and would love donations of old rubber thongs destined for the bin. Please send them into the office or to Miss Heap. Our school garden beds are thriving and we have harvested another cauliflower that students are looking forward to eating. Our members have been monitoring our collection of empty drink bottles for return and earn so that we can raise funds for our gardens and other sustainable initiatives.

P&C News

Father's Day

It was a big week for the P&C committee and we would love to say a heart felt thank you to all involved with our Father’s Day Stall, Father’s Day Breakfast and Friday night meat raffle. Wednesday saw most of the students come through to pick gifts for their significant father figures, with the year one children finishing up the stall on Thursday. We saw lots of smiling faces and beautiful manners and we hope everyone was able to find something great to give on Sunday morning! The weather held off for Friday morning and we saw lots of happy dads and kids enjoying their Father’s Day Breakfast together! We cannot thank each of our beautiful volunteers enough for their efforts in making all of this happen. We love being able to provide this for our school and it wouldn’t be possible without you!

Meat Raffle

Friday night at the Caves Coastal Bar and Bungalows was a success with the meat raffle raising over $450 for our school.

We invite all families and friends down to the meat raffles each Friday this September to get together and grab some raffle tickets to help support our beautiful school!

Keen to help ?

Each week we need a few volunteers to help sell the raffle. All we need is an hour or so of your time and a convincing smile.

Art Show

Last term our P&C donated money to help purchase art framing and specialist art paper  for all school students to display their art work at the recent school Art Show. It was fabulous to see students art work presented so professionally. We want to congratulate those who organised the show and to all students who completed such wonderful Art work.

New Members

We would like to welcome our newest members to the P&C committee. If you would like to know what’s happening in our school, want to assist in bringing about positive change or even just want to be a fundraising guru, we would love to see you! We would also like to thank all current committee members for their time and effort in running our P&C and helping create such wonderful occasions for our children’s school.
