Principal's Report

Welcome Back to Term 4!

Welcome back to all our students, staff and families for the final term of 2025. I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break and is feeling refreshed.

Term 4 is always a busy time at Jamberoo Public School, filled with learning, celebration and special events. There is so much to look forward to!

Staffing Changes

We welcome back Mrs McGee who has been on leave for Terms 2-3.

Ms Stehr will no longer be working with us and has taken on another role at another school. We wish her all the best.

Teachers are Learners too!

Last week Mrs Behl-Shanks and I were at an explicit teaching roadshow at Fairy Meadow Demonstration School, where we worked alongside other school leaders to delve into explicit teaching. On Wednesday, we also attended Kiama High School with our community of school leaders to analyse our NAPLAN data and see the growth our JPS students have had from Years 5-7 and Years 7-9.

Staff this term are engaging in professional learning around curriculum reform, essential daily practices, our new spelling program (Tessa Daffern), Thinker's Keys, the new CHPS syllabus documents (creative arts, HSIE, PDHPE and science), reports, explicit teaching and student data analysis.

New Website Upgrade

Our school will be working tirelessly to upgrade our school website. Stay tuned for further updates.

Year 6 to 7 Transition

Students have met with high school teachers from KHS last week and will be involved in upcoming transition days to support them heading into high school. We provide high schools with as much information as possible to ensure that students are placed in their correct groupings and are supported.

State Multicultural Public Speaking Competition

Mrs Behl Shanks, Mr Reed and 22 students went to Sydney to watch Zahli deliver her speeches. We look forward to an update in this Friday's newsletter on how she went.

Cricket PSSA Tongarra Team

Ruben and Leo were selected to be a part of the Tongarra Team for cricket. Good luck to them both and we can't wait to hear all about it.

Gala Day

Today students in S2 and S3 are at a PSSA Dragon Tag event in Albion Park. We hope they are keeping warm and enjoying their day.

Canberra Camp

This Thursday and Friday Stage 3 are off to camp. We hope they have a wonderful time with their peers. Mrs Behl-Shanks, Mr Reed and Mrs McGee will be there to support students.

World Teacher's Day

This Friday is World Teachers' Day (31st October), we warmly celebrate and acknowledge the dedication, passion and hard work of all teachers at JPS. Their commitment to nurturing young minds, inspiring curiosity and fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment shapes the futures of students every day.

Happy World Teachers' Day for Friday!

Have a great week, everyone.

Kind regards,

Katie Louttit

Year 6 Farewell

Gardening Club

In Week 1, Kindergarteners had an exciting time in the veggie garden as we had our judges from the Kiama Garden Club spring garden competition visiting us! The kindy students were very clever in answering questions from the judges, who were impressed with their enthusiasm and knowledge. Fingers crossed — the winners are announced this Friday!

This week, Year 1 and 2 students joined us in the garden, doing a variety of jobs. They continued to plant our dahlia flower seeds, to compare their growing rate to the dahlia tubers we had already planted. We had made some 'weed tea' about a month ago (weeds in a plastic bucket with a lid, filled with water). This makes a very good fertiliser. Students did some fertilising of plants by being given a small amount of the weed tea in their watering can, then adding water to it. They went home with lots of goodies, as you can see in the photos!

Class Spotlight

Walabi

Walabi students have been industriously working on their Jamberoo Jabber speeches. We started by brainstorming ideas for all four choices of topics, and helping each other with ideas. We then worked hard on an engaging introduction, three "PEEL" paragraphs (ask your child what this means!) and a conclusion.  We will have plenty of time to practise these as we will be presenting them in Week 5.

In maths, students are enjoying our work on 3-dimensional objects. You can see their models made from toothpicks and plasticine in the photos.

5 Cooinda

We’ve certainly hit the ground running in Term 4!

It was enjoyable to see the classmates share stories of their holidays during the first day back! We are continuing our English unit of ‘Worse Things’, which follows the different perspectives of three young teenagers through their journeys of friendships, expectations, belonging and the power of choices. Students are working hard on units of measurement in mathematics and continue to practise their timestables through class challenges.

We were grateful to have Neak (Mrs Reed) sharing her expertise in ceramics, where students applied different glazes to their small projects, ready for firing! Also, 5 Cooinda have been stepping up as role models to help our pre-school student buddies during orientation days. A big thank you to the students who showed kindness, maturity and leadership.

Congratulations to Ruben and Leo, who are heading to the PSSA Tongarra District Cricket trials this week. Finally, a huge shout-out to Zahli, who represented Jamberoo and our region at the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking in Sydney on Friday. We are so proud of your achievements and efforts.

Well done, Year 5!

Cooinda 6

Last week in maths, students in 6 Cooinda have been developing their skills in measurement, focusing on measuring and converting between standard units such as metres and centimetres.

Through a range of hands-on activities, students explored the concept of distance by making estimates, conducting experiments, and collecting real-world data. They then compared and represented their findings in a variety of ways, building a stronger understanding of how measurement applies to everyday life.

A highlight of the week was comparing their own jump distances to the impressive 8.69 metres achieved in the men’s long jump final at the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. This sparked great discussion and curiosity as students gained a real appreciation for the scale of elite athletic performance.

It was a week full of exploration, teamwork, and fun, as students measured, moved, and learned together.

Library

Term 4 Library Reward – Borrow and Win!

This term, our library has a special reward program to celebrate all our enthusiastic readers! Every time a student borrows a book, they will receive a ticket. This ticket goes into our “Library Reward Jar” for a chance to win an exciting prize!

The winner will be drawn in Week 8, so the more books you borrow, the more chances you have to win!

It’s a fun way to explore new stories, discover new interests, and enjoy the magic of reading. We can’t wait to see which lucky readers will take home a special reward. Happy reading!

Don’t Forget Your Library Bag!

To help keep our library books in great condition, we ask that all students bring a library bag when borrowing books. A bag keeps books dry, clean, and protected, helping them last longer for all our readers to enjoy.

Please check that your child has a library bag each week so they can safely borrow and return books. Thank you for helping us look after our library collection!
