Rozelle Public School Newsletter

TERM THREE WEEK TEN

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past and present.

As we conclude Term 3 today, I want to acknowledge the academic achievements, engagement and enthusiasm of our students in so many extra curricula programs and the appreciation of our supportive school community. A highlight of the term was our Year 6 Production ‘On with the Show’ last Thursday which once again showcased the incredible talent and spirit that exists within our school. A performance of this scale and calibre, highlights the expertise of many creative and dedicated individuals working collaboratively. The students worked so hard rehearsing, learning lines and lyrics, practising dance moves and choreography, working tirelessly with the band and at home to learn their parts and their music. An all-round impressive performance! At Rozelle we are also very lucky to have such a talented staff. This year we have once again recruited Mel Dunne to work with the dance group, assisted by Liz Singleton. Caris Doyle and Jen Mclachlan conducting and costuming the exceptional choir group. Lisa Tohver, Claire Rolland and Isabella Lungo heading up the drama group. We’ve been fortunate to have Chloe Genion to assist with sets, props and costumes. Thanks to Abbie Walker and Alden Kwok who have worked as the backstage crew on this show. I would like to thank all the staff for making all that possible! Thank you to the parents who helped with costumes. A special thanks to Helen Crimmins for her incredible dedication, effort and expertise that she has brought to the band program and our creative arts offerings at Rozelle for the past 20 years. Amazing! A special thanks must go to Lisa Tohver, the driving force for our entire team of students and staff ensuring the night was a huge success.

P&C OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT

Last Friday, the P&C ran a highly successful outdoor movie night, with a screening of the popular movie Encanto. The weather was perfect and the tiger turf was full of Rozelle families enjoying the warm spring evening. We are so lucky to have a P&C that organises great events that bring the community together. Thank you RPS P&C!

TERM FOUR

The final term of the year will begin on Monday 14 October. The term will run for ten weeks with Wednesday 18 December being the final day of the school year. Term Four is always a busy term with many events scheduled. To keep up to date with all school news, please read the fortnightly newsletter or check the calendar on the school’s website.

RETURNING TO ROZELLE IN 2025

Thank you to all families who have returned the Returning to RPS survey. To complete, it only takes a few minutes and provides the school with essential enrolment information. If you haven't already done so, please complete and return before the beginning of Term Four.

As we move into the school holidays, I encourage our students to take the time to relax, recharge, and reflect on their efforts this term. I hope the break provides an opportunity for families to enjoy some quality time together.

SAMI BAYLY AUTHOR / ILLUSTRATOR INCURSION

On Tuesday 17 September, our students had an incredible opportunity to meet Sami Bayly, a super talented author and illustrator of The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Ugly Animals, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Dangerous Animals and The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Peculiar Pairs in Nature, and most recently, How We Came To Be - Surprising Sea Creatures and How We Came To Be - Creatures of Camouflage and Mimicry. Rozelle students were also the very first group to see her newest book The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Extinct Animals. Sami shared her journey of becoming an author and illustrator, inspiring our students to follow their dreams. Teachers and students tried out their own artistic skills through a guided drawing lesson during which they created their own version of Sami’s weird and wonderful animals. We want to thank Sami Bayly for her inspiring presentation, Allison Richardson for running the event on the day and send a shout out to Ms Shepperd for organising the event. Our students loved it!!

TELL THEM FROM ME PARENT SURVEY

Rozelle is taking part in the Tell Them From Me parent survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on our parent’s/carer’s perceptions of their child’s experiences at home and at school. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys. Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual parents/carers from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating parents/carers will be able to complete the survey at home by going to http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/rps2024. The survey typically takes 10 minutes or less to complete. This survey will help our school better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will help the school identify what works to improve student outcomes. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. The survey window is currently open and will close Friday 8 November at 4:30pm.

BAND NEWS

A huge thank you to all those that volunteered their time and baked cakes to support the election day cake stall! It was very successful and raised just over $2,000! This will help us get a backlog of damaged instruments fixed next term.

The bands performance at the Year 6 Production was simply brilliant. So much hard work went into that performance. Helen has once again (for the 20th year it turns out) pulled off a very polished performance worthy of a much older age group band. All the band members involved can be very proud of themselves!

JOINING THE K-2 PERCUSSION GROUP

Bruce Stephens uses standard music notation to teach basic composition, using a range of percussion instruments involving a mix of drums, drumsticks, and boom whackers. The goal of the class is for the children to have fun and enjoy making music! It also prepares them to play later in a band, exposing them to great music beats and encourages them to learn to play as a group. K-2 Percussion Group is held on Friday lunchtimes in the band room next to the Tiger Turf.  Cost is $160 per term.  If your child is in years K-2 and interested in joining percussion group next term, please contact matthew.roe3@det.nsw.edu.au
