From the Acting Principal

My name is Courtney Adams and I will be Acting Principal for the duration of Ann-Marie's 5 weeks of Long Service Leave. I feel very lucky to be working at Wasleys Primary School for part of this term. Already I have met some of our school community in the yard and at Playgroup. I have spent time this week in classrooms building connections with students and working collaboratively with staff. I have really enjoyed my morning yard duties and have noticed students showing the values of teamwork, collaboration, friendship and kindness.

We have a Pupil Free Day on Tuesday the 12th of March. Staff will be taking part in Kimochis training. Kimochi (KEY.MO.CHEE) means “feeling” in Japanese. Sometimes kids have strong feelings that can fuel challenging behaviours. Sometimes it’s hard to know how to communicate when you are in an emotional moment. Kimochis are a playful way to help children learn how to identify and express feelings.

Interschool Sports Day is also coming up on the 4th of April at Nuriootpa High School. Parent/Caregivers will be required to arrange transport for students and are welcome to stay. More information will come sooner to the event. We have sent out a reminder to please bring in Harmony Day t-shirts or White t-shirts from last Sports Day for tie dying Rainbow. Thank you.

I look forward to working in partnership with you to support your child over the coming weeks.

School Routines and Procedures

Front Office Hours:

The school reception area is staffed between 8:30am & 3.30pm (open term time only)

Contacting the School:

You can contact the school by phone or email (details at the bottom of this newsletter) or the Audiri App.

*On a day where there is only one staff member working in the office or if you call outside of school hours, the answering machine may be on.  Please leave your name, number and a short message with the reason for your call.  If you ask for a call back, we will respond as soon as we are available to do so. All messages are passed on to the relevant staff member.

Drop Off and Pick Up Times  -  Drive with caution:

These are very busy times of the day and we ask for your cooperation so that our students and the school community can come and go safely each day.

Remember to drive slowly .

PLEASE DO NOT U-TURN OR REVERSE IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL

School Supervision  -  Yard Duty:

Yard Duty begins at 8:30am each morning.  Please ensure children arrive after this time.  Staff will be on duty until 3:30pm each afternoon and children will be supervised until they are picked up by an adult.

Please arrange to collect your children at 3:10pm each afternoon and contact the school if you are going to be late.

Late Arrival and Early Departures:

If your child is late to school (ie arrives after 8:55am), they will need to see staff in the Front Office who will issue them with a yellow ‘Late Arrival’ card to take to their class teacher.  Parents picking up children early for an appointment, will need to tell or ring Front Office staff before staff can let the classroom Teacher know about "Early Departure". Signing a slip is no longer necessary with EMS, whereby your child’s late arrival or early departure is entered straight into the system by staff on the Reception Desk.

Illness & Injuries at School – Collecting Your Child:

Students who are sent to the Front Office by their classroom teacher due to illness and also for injuries that are considered more serious eg: a hard knock to the head, will be sent home.

Unwell students should not attend school until they have fully recovered and will not pass on sickness to other students and school staff.

Parents will always be contacted first and you will need to collect your child promptly.

If you are unable to collect your child, please organise your emergency contact and let the school know who this will be.  They will need to present ID at the Front Office (eg Driver’s Licence).

Primary caregivers eg: parents are NOT emergency contacts but people other than yourselves eg: relatives or friends who can be contacted if parents are unavailable.

Please list at least 2 local emergency contacts for your children.

IMPORTANT: Updating Student & Family Information

So that we can best support your children at school, we ask parents & caregivers to keep staff informed throughout the year whenever there are changes to your family circumstances including:

*  home address (residential and/or postal)

*  contact phone number

* employment &/or place of employment

* email address

* emergency contacts

* student's medical condition

* shared living arrangements

* custody information

You can let the school know by completing the 'Change of Details' eform on the Audiri App or by email/written notification.

Emergency Contacts:

***Please make sure you provide the school with a list of at least 2 emergency contacts OTHER THAN YOURSELVES that can be contacted if you are unavailable to collect your child due to illness or injury.***

*** Emergency contacts will need to present ID at the Front Office eg Driver's Licence before collecting students ***

Carli

We are back for 2024! I cannot believe it is already week 3 and we are well and truly in the school groove. I am extremely excited to be back for 2024. It has been nice to see some familiar faces and get to know all the new Receptions that have started this year. I have already seen so much growth in such a short amount of time and it is just a reminder about how quickly children grow and learn.

As the schools Pastoral Care Worker, I am here to support your child throughout their schooling journey. Whether that be in the classroom, helping to regulate and get back on task, or out in the playground navigating friendships.

I am also here to support you, the parents, as well. A lot can be happening behind the scenes. I am here to offer a listening ear and support where I can. I am always up for a chat! I am one of you, after all! My eldest son started school this year. We are navigating new routines, big feelings of nervousness as we get to know new people.

The one thing I love about Wasleys Primary School is the community and the sense of belonging. The staff at Wasleys truly have your children’s best interest at heart. The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes does not go unnoticed.

I look forward to the coming year and all that will happen. I am here on Monday and Tuesdays, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

The following students have been chosen to be part of our SRC for 2024. For the Executive Positions students nominated themselves, wrote an application and were interviewed as part of a panel process with Principal Ann-Marie Ellis. For the Class Representatives, students nominated themselves and delivered a speech. The class then voted.

Congratulations to our next group of School Leaders. We look forward to seeing you raise the student voice in our school and make an impact this year.
