TERM TWO WEEK TWO

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.

Term Two has kicked off with a busy and at times wet start! It was wonderful to welcome back both staff and students last week, with teaching and learning programs quickly back in full swing.

A standout event during our first week was the special Anzac Day Assembly, expertly coordinated by Tara Bryant. The assembly showcased our talented senior band and choir, who performed the first verse of the national anthem in the Darug language. Alex H from Year Six delivered a perfect rendition of the Last Post. We were honoured to have four Rozelle parents, currently serving in the armed forces, join us for this meaningful occasion. For those parents who haven't had the chance to attend a RPS Anzac Day Assembly, I highly encourage you to come next year. It truly is a special event that highlights the very best of our Rozelle community.

After last week’s postponement due to rain, our Cross Country carnival took place yesterday. Although the weather was not overly kind, the students were incredibly well behaved and responsive to the changing weather conditions. It was fantastic to see parents volunteering their time and cheering on our runners. We had some impressive results, and RPS will be sending a strong team to the Balmain Zone carnival. A big thank you to our Year Six parents for keeping everyone's energy up with a delicious cake stall! Abbie Walker and Isabella Lungo, who coordinated the carnival, were at Waterfront Drive at 7am mapping out the course, setting up the gazebo and laying down tarps to ensure the day was a success. Thank you Abbie and Isabella.

For our teachers, it's a busy fortnight as they meet with parents to discuss student progress and achievement. These meetings are an essential part of the school’s Reporting to Parents Framework and complement the Semester One report, which will be sent home later in the term. I would like to extend my gratitude to our staff who have made themselves available before and after school for these important discussions.

CONGRATULATIONS DANCE GROUPS

We are delighted to announce that our Year 4/5 and Year 6 dance groups have successfully auditioned for the NSW Public Schools ‘In the Spotlight’ Dance Festival! Set to be held at the Seymour Centre, this event will showcase the talents of both teachers and students in dance education through their performances.

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

This semester, we are introducing an updated school report designed to improve clarity and understanding for parents. Developed by the NSW Department of Education, these new reports will still showcase your child's progress across all subject areas, with teacher comments provided in English, Mathematics, and a general comment section. The reports will feature a new achievement scale and descriptions, offering a clearer picture of your child's development. As always, parent-teacher interviews will remain an essential opportunity to discuss your child's progress in greater detail.

NO PARENT PARKING OR DROP OFF ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

Parents should never drive into the school to access the bottom car park. This was observed earlier this week when a parent accessed the bottom car park to drop off their child for before school tennis. Access to our car parks are for Rozelle staff only.

These photos will be available for purchase through The School Photographer. In the coming weeks, families will receive information about which day their child's class will be photographed.

NSW Public Schools Student Survey

In Term 2, our school will participate in the NSW Public Schools Student Survey, conducted by the NSW Department of Education. This survey invites students to share their thoughts on school life, their engagement with learning and their interactions with teachers.

The feedback gathered will be used to analyse student wellbeing and engagement, driving improvements across all NSW public schools. Here are key details about the survey:

  • Participation: Students will receive a unique login to complete the survey online during school hours, taking approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Voluntary Participation: Participation is voluntary, and opting out will not affect your child's school experience. Students can stop the survey or skip questions at any time.
  • Confidentiality: The department will collect personal information, such as gender and cultural background, to support students' educational needs. Individual responses will remain anonymous in school reports, with data included only if at least five students respond similarly.

For further details on how the information will be used and to access the opt-out form, please visit education.nsw.gov.au/npss. If you do not want your child to participate, please download and return the completed opt-out form to the school by Friday 24 May, 2025.

Wearing School Uniform

Students are requested to wear their full school uniform every day. Wearing our uniform not only fosters a sense of belonging and school spirit, but it also reflects our commitment to maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment.

When students wear their uniform, they contribute to a sense of unity and identity within our school community. It helps create a school where everyone feels included and valued. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that all students come to school dressed in their full uniform each day!

School Tours

We are excited to invite prospective families to our first school tour on Tuesday13 May. This tour offers a wonderful opportunity to visit our school and gain insight into our community and programs. We will have six tours in total during Terms 2 and 3. To book your spot, please contact the school office by email or call 9810 2347.
