HOUSE PUBLIC SPEAKING:

Congratulations to the following students who spoke well and have been selected for the final of the House Public Speaking Competition:

HEART VALUES DRONE FOOTAGE:

Students in 5/6 have been working on making video clips of our new school values. This culminated with Mr Duanne Corbett visiting on Monday to take some aerial footage of our students walking onto the big oval and making a heart. On arrival at the location of the heart, students from 5/6 chanted the school values and then held large red pieces of cardboard above their heads to showcase the heart. Thanks to Mrs Lees, Mr Corbett and the Grade 5/6 class on their work in this initiative.

SUPER SCIENCE CULTURAL PERFORMANCE:

Students were amazed by aspects of science during the cultural performance held on Friday. With a loud and entertaining show we learnt about gravity, the centre of gravity and noise (who knew Janaya’s scream would be louder than the cracking of a whip!).

A BUSY WEEK FOR CAMPING AND SLEEP OVERS

This week we have the Grade 3/4 students leaving on a school camp to Beaufort. They will depart on Wednesday, participate in a range of activities including crate stacking, low ropes, canoeing, archery and hut building. We anticipate that the children will return at approximately 4:00 pm on Friday. For ALL BUS TRAVELLERS, please make sure you have a ride home.

The Prep and 1 children will be involved in an extended day and the Grade 2s will have a sleep over.

I appreciate the work in organising these activities and would like to thank Mrs Salmon, Mr Down and Mrs Clugston for attending the Grade 3/4 camp. I also recognise that Miss Morrish and Miss Walsh have developed the program for the Prep, 1 and Grade 2 children.

New autism resources to support students starting school

Neurodiversity is about celebrating and embracing difference and diversity across humankind, and looking at how we can support neurodiversity across all contexts.'

— Dr Beth Saggers, Professor, School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education, Queensland University of Technology

The Student Wellbeing Hub has recently launched a new suite of free resources that provide information for families, educators and students to support young people on the autism spectrum (diagnosed or undiagnosed) as they begin their primary school journey.

Find comprehensive content for families and educators, featuring FAQs, videos, actionable tips, and more at https://studentwellbeinghub.edu.au/autism/

NO TOYS AT SCHOOL PLEASE:

Teachers have requested that students not bring toys to school. They are finding that the students are distracted by them, and this is impacting upon their learning. Unless special permission is granted by the teacher students should not bring toys to school.

SWIMMING HELPERS NEEDED:

I am currently looking for swimming instructors to assist with our swimming program. The program runs on the 27/11/2023 (1:15 – 3:00), 28/11/2023 (1:15 – 3:00), 30/11 (1:15 – 3:00), 1/12 (1:15 – 3:00), 4/12 (1:15 – 3:00), 6/12 (1:15 – 3:00) and 7/12 (1:15 – 3:00). Having people commit to the program would greatly assist with developing the swimming skills of our primary students. Qualified instructors would be paid for their work.

If you are interested in registering for this, please contact the office on 5389 1270 as soon as possible.

HAND FOOT AND MOUTH CASES:

Parents and carer are advised that we have recently been made aware of some cases of hand foot and mouth disease in the community. Whilst these cases are not at school, we ask families to be vigilant and monitor for symptoms:

· Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common viral illness that mainly affects children under 10 years old.

· Symptoms include fever, blisters in and around the mouth and on the hands and feet, and a sore throat and mouth.

· The virus is usually spread through contact with the fluid within the blisters, as well as in fluids from the nose, mouth and lungs.

· Symptoms can be treated with paracetamol, rest and staying hydrated.

Hand foot and mouth disease is highly contagious and children should be kept home until all blisters have dried up.

CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING AT DIMBOOLA PRIMARY SCHOOL:

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Dimboola Primary School has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on the Dimboola Primary School website or available at the front office

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact Greg Sampson, principal.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SUPERVISION PARENT NOTIFICATION:

Student safety at Dimboola Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised at 8:30 am

After school: School grounds are supervised 3:25 pm.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy through the Dimboola Primary School Website or contact the school office. This policy includes Dimboola Primary School’s student supervision arrangements across the school day, including before and after school.

SCHOOL TRAFFIC

With school returning it would be a timely reminder to all that:

o Drivers need to give way at school crossings until the pedestrians are well clear of the crossing

o Park in designated spots so as not to create ‘black spots’ for other drivers

o The ‘Kiss and Drop Zone’ at the front of the school is for a quick drop off or pick up.

o Obey the 40kmh speed limits around the school.

o There is a large ‘drop off’ zone in Wimmera Street that has a gate to allow children to walk across the big oval if it is too congested at the front or back of school.

o Bike riders will dismount from their bikes at the front gate (Hindmarsh Street) or the back gate (Church St) and wheel their bikes to the racks.

o Please assist with the education of your child by using the school crossing. Near misses have occurred due to people taking short cuts.

o Bike/scooter riders are to dismount prior to using the school crossings.
