Appreciation for Community Support
As we reach the end of Week 5, I would like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister, Mr John Rosso, and the Lae City Authority for their generous contribution of K100,000 to Lae International School.
The cheque was presented in response to a letter requesting assistance with the maintenance and improvement of staff housing. This support is greatly appreciated and will be directed towards infrastructure development in these areas, helping us maintain quality accommodation for our staff and strengthening the long-term sustainability of our school.
As the families of Lae International School are also taxpayers and valued contributors to the Lae community, it is both appropriate and encouraging to see our school included in this important support initiative. We thank Mr Rosso and the Lae City Authority for recognising the role that LIS plays in educating young people and contributing to the development of our city and country.
Principal's Meetings in Port Moresby
I would also like to advise families that I will be travelling to Port Moresby next week from Wednesday to attend the IEA Principals' Meetings. These meetings provide an important opportunity for collaboration, strategic planning, and the sharing of best practice across the Independent Education Agency network. I look forward to bringing back ideas and initiatives that will continue to benefit our students and our school community.
Excitement Around the Year 7 and Year 8 Transition
There continues to be a great deal of excitement throughout the LIS community following the announcement that Year 7 and Year 8 students will relocate to the Secondary Campus from next term.
This initiative represents an important step in creating a more seamless educational journey for our students as they progress through the middle years and transition into upper secondary schooling. Students will have earlier access to specialist facilities, secondary learning environments, and the broader opportunities available on the Secondary Campus.
The positive response from students, parents, and staff has highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding this important development and the opportunities it will create for our learners.
Major Investment in STEM Education
Even more exciting is a major announcement that will support both the Year 7 and Year 8 transition and the ongoing rollout of our STEM programs across the Secondary Campus.
Through the strong support and commitment of the LIS Board of Governors, a new computer laboratory will be established at the Secondary Campus with the deployment of 25 laptop computers. In addition, new state-of-the-art 3D printers will be introduced to further strengthen opportunities for innovation, engineering, design thinking, coding, and technology-based learning.
This represents a significant investment by the Board of Governors in ensuring that LIS students continue to have access to cutting-edge STEM education throughout their secondary years. These resources will provide students with valuable hands-on learning experiences and help prepare them for the increasingly technology-driven world beyond school.
Supporting these developments is the recent rollout of new and enhanced Wi-Fi access across the Secondary Campus, ensuring reliable connectivity and creating a modern learning environment capable of supporting contemporary teaching and learning practices.

Together with the support of our Board of Governors, parents, staff, and the wider community, we are building an educational environment that prepares students to thrive in the future while strengthening the foundations of our school for years to come.
