Message from Julie

What a difference the mural and updated line marking make to our primary asphalt area. It has certainly lifted and brightened this space. The mural was painted over a period of 3 weeks, with students being able to watch and ask questions last Friday. A very exciting time for all. Special thanks to our SRC, their fundraising efforts including collecting 10c recyclable cans and bottles has helped to fund the project. Thanks all for your patience while the asphalt was unavailable.

After the assembly last week, Jane our PCW, in conjunction with our Parent Association held a morning tea for parents and families. It was lovely to spend time chatting to families over a cup of tea and some delicious snacks. Thanks to all who were able to come along.

Today we welcomed our midyear intake receptions to their first transition visit to school. This year we are welcoming 20 new students who will be joining J2 and J4. A fun morning was had by all, even though there were some nerves and lots of excitement. The visit was paired with a parent meeting for our new families, where we were able to share information about our beautiful school and answer their questions. We look forward to two more transition visits this term prior to the new students joining us officially at the start of Term 3.

Our butterfly garden is again creating much excitement across the school at the moment. The caterpillars that have been hiding in their chrysalis over the last few weeks have started to emerge as butterflies. It has been lovely to see families in the garden before and after school, and classes watching the changes as they happen.

You may have seen a ‘save the date’ come out via Audiri for a Movie Night Fundraiser to be held by the school. We are looking forward to the evening on Friday June 27 in our school gym. We used last years funds to purchase the new projector screen and other IT equipment for the gym, this year, monies raised will go towards our much anticipated playground upgrade.

There have been an increased number of students and staff with the usual winter illnesses at the moment.  Students are being reminded to wash their hands often and to use a tissue when needed.  This means that there have been a higher number of students absent from school and an increased number of relief staff in classrooms.  I am hoping the long weekend provides people with the opportunity to rest and get better.

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend with your families.

Every Day Counts!

Every Day Counts!

EVERY DAY COUNTS! Missed school adds up to a lot of missed education. Attendance rates since Covid times have not yet recovered to pre Covid (normal) rates across South Australia. We are working to have children at school every day. Every day matters. Please let the school know via the Audiri app, a phone call or Seesaw message if your child needs to be away and if it is for sickness or for family reason. All unexplained absences require follow up by teacher/school. An exemption signed by the Principal is required for family holidays of 3 or more days. Every day counts!

Sorry Day

Sorry Day

On Monday 26th May, students painted rocks using the Aboriginal dot painting method. The painting was linked in with the 'stones' story.

Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week

In Week 5, our school acknowledged National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. Our school recognises the importance of connecting with our Aboriginal community and values learning together to deepen our understanding and respect for diverse cultures. Children learned about the significance of National Sorry Day through the story titled Stories for Simon, A Tale of Friendship and Reconciliation by Lisa Miranda Sarzin, as well as participating in rock dot painting and Dreamtime story activities.

Aussie of the Month

Aussie of the Month

Our Aussie of the Month program aims to recognise the following values in our learners. Fair go, mateship, respect and inclusion.

Our Aussie of the Month for April is Kit Thomassen from P7.

Kit was nominated for always being co-operative, helpful and supportive towards other children. He is an excellent role model for other students.

Our Aussie of the month for May is Samrath Singh from J3.

Samrath was nominated for being helpful during SRC meetings. He often joins in with picking up rubbish at our Yard Clean Up club and he helps all other children when they need support.

Congratulations to both of our winners for being awarded Aussie of the Month.

Garden Club News

Our garden club members for Week 4 were Milli J4, Oscar J5, Meher J2, Araina P8 and Dino P14. We watered the flowers planted by the previous garden club group, which are now blooming beautifully and bringing vibrant colour to the entrance of the school. In one of our raised garden beds, we cleared out weeds and removed dead flowers to make room for something new. With the soil refreshed, we planted lettuce and are looking forward to watching it grow.

"Congratulations to Chris Maddocks and Tyler Stagg who were both selected for the Adelaide North East District Football team. They both braved cold and rainy days during a 3 day Carnival against the other school Districts from SA. We hope that they can both continue kicking goals with their sporting efforts".

Chris and Tyler's team won the Carnival. Well done!!
