Nhamirri Walal,
As we wrap up our first semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a very positive start to the school year. I feel so fortunate to lead such a special staff – a group of people who bring enthusiasm, dedication and kindness to our school community every day. Thanks to them, our students have already enjoyed so many fun and memorable events — from the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, Cross Country, Electives, Robotics, First Aid and Fire Safety workshops, Easter Parade, Dress Ups, Walk and Ride to School Day, ANZAC Assembly, Student-Led Conferences and Harmony Day… just to name a few!
Today’s Athletics Carnival was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our school calendar. Events like this not only showcase the impressive athletic abilities of many of our students but also highlight what an incredible community we have at NPS. The Cross Country last week and today’s carnival were such fun, uplifting and wholesome events. It was heart warming to see students cheering one another on, offering encouragement to those who needed a boost and celebrating every effort – including those finishing last, who also received a heartfelt round of applause. Sports carnivals bring out the best in many of our students and offer opportunities to remind us just how special our students truly are. I’d also like to congratulate Rick and his committee consisting of Gabby, Stella, Reese, Tony, Jake and Bec, who played an important role in pulling off these fantastic events.
Our newly elected School Council has also hit the ground running. Last weekend, Larissa, Yvonne, Emma and Renee participated in a whole-day COGSO Governance and Finance workshop along with our Business Manager, Sharon. This passionate group of parents has already hosted a successful whole-school Mothers' Day stall and is now eagerly preparing for other fundraising initiatives and special events. Their hard work will help us purchase items identified by students, provide opportunities to have fun together and serve our school community. Their support is invaluable and we’re grateful for their commitment and enthusiasm.
In staffing news, Jack Zendler has been working alongside Jake in 5/6B. With Jake stepping into the Senior Teacher role full time, Jack has been a fantastic addition to the 5/6 team, seamlessly fitting in and contributing to the classroom and team. Meanwhile, Hannah Howse has also arrived and been working alongside Meg Irvine, who will be finishing up at the end of this term. We wish Meg well and thank her for her positive contribution to NPS.
We also said farewell to the lovely Ms Morrow, who is off to have a baby. We have truly enjoyed having her as part of our staff and deeply appreciate the nurturing and supportive way she encourages her students to thrive. We wish Josie and Jarrod all the best on their exciting new adventure. Louise Hogarty and her family will be returning to Nhulunbuy, and we’re delighted that Louise will be teaching 1/2B from Term 3.
Louise Brooke is also on her way back to NPS for a Term 3 start. Louise will be working in Preschool and across Early Childhood, providing teacher coverage and early intervention support. It’s always handy to have returning staff who already know the school and town, and we look forward to greeting both Louises soon!
With a week of Semester 1 to go, I’d like to thank you all for a fantastic first semester. I hope you enjoy some special times together as a family, wish our staff and students a well-deserved break and look forward to all the great things we will continue to achieve together in Semester 2.
Warm wishes,
Rachel Blundell
Principal
