From The Principal - Gail Holland

Egeria

On Monday, 28th April, we all walked down to Marsh Walk for the unveiling of the sculpture, Egeria.

After visiting the Greenock War Memorial, the sculpture was unveiled by the Honourable Frances Adamson AC Governor of South Australia. Our acting Mayor, Michael Phillips-Ryder, supported Her Excellency in officially ‘cutting the ribbon’.

Our students provided a lovely backdrop to this event, waving their ribbon wands and wearing their wings. As usual, they made us proud with their respectful behaviour and positive attitudes.

Egeria was skilfully created by artist, Claude Portelli. She is a beautiful fairy and has been created to look after the natural environment surrounding the Greenock creek.

Frances Adamson addressed the children and thanked them for coming. She said that she hoped they would always remember the part they played in welcoming Egeria to the town and that they would help to look after her.

School Procedures

School Supervision  -  Yard Duty:

Yard Duty begins at 8:30am each morning.  Please ensure children arrive after this time.  Staff will be on duty until 3:30pm each afternoon and children will be supervised within the JP playground area until they are picked up by their adult.

Please arrange to collect your children at 3:10pm each afternoon and contact the school if you are going to be late.

If you are having difficulty with these times,  the Before/After School Care service, Happy Haven, operating from Nuriootpa Primary School, is available for you to use.  Phone 81555 444 to book or for more information.

Late Arrival and Early Departures:

If your child is late to school (ie arrives after 8:50am), they will need to see staff in the Front Office who will issue them with a yellow ‘Late Arrival’ card to take to their class teacher.  Parents picking up children early for an appointment will also need to come to the Front Office and get a pink ‘Early Departure’ card. Please do not ask teachers to have your child wait for you in the Front Office as this impinges on valuable learning time. Collect your child from the classroom after handing the card to the teacher.

Student Absences:

A reason is required for all absences from school.  You can use the eform in Audiri, or contact the school by phone or email to report your child's absence.

Unexplained Absences:

Where students have been marked  'unexplained' by the class teacher, including students who arrive late to school without going to the Front Office to get a yellow card, the parent/caregiver will receive an email asking you to provide the school with a reason for the absence. You can do this via the above methods.

Illness & Injuries at School – Collecting Your Child:

Students who are sent to the Front Office/First Aid room by their teacher due to illness and also for injuries that are considered more serious eg a hard knock to the head, will be sent home.

Unwell students should not attend school until they have fully recovered and will not pass on illness to others.

Parents will always be contacted first in any situation.

As our First Aid room is equipped to accommodate one child at a time, it is important that you collect your child promptly once you have been notified, so that other students needing assistance can be attended to.

If you are unable to collect your child, please organise your emergency contact and let the school know who this will be.

Primary caregivers eg parents are NOT emergency contacts but people other than yourselves eg relatives or friends who can be contacted if parents are unavailable.

Please list at least 2 local emergency contacts for your children.

Emergency contacts will need to show identification eg driver's license, at the Front Office when collecting children from school.

PCW News

Hello,

Welcome to another term, I hope you all enjoyed some quality downtime with family and friends over the holidays. It’s been wonderful to see your children’s smiling faces and hear their stories about what they’ve been up to. I can’t believe how much they grow over the break, and how many teeth are lost! I'm looking forward to another great term here at Greenock and feel privileged to spend time with and serve our wonderful school community.

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, there’s a lovely buzz around the school as some very busy people prepare gifts to celebrate the special ladies in our lives. A big shout-out and heartfelt thank you to the amazing team organising the Mother’s Day stall. The children love being able to choose a gift, and the excitement it creates is wonderful to see.

Mother’s Day is more than flowers and cards, it's a celebration of the love, strength, and unwavering dedication that mums bring to their families every day. Whether you're a new mum, a step mum, a solo parent, or a grandmother raising little ones, this day is for you and the unique journey you're on.

We are all blessed to have or have had a mother or mother figure in our lives. For some, our mums may no longer be with us, or we may be cared for by someone who lovingly fills that role. But the values, wisdom, and love they shared continue to shape us and live on in our hearts.

“Mum” may be a small word, but it carries so much meaning. Motherhood is a journey that brings with so many emotions; joy, pride, worry, fear, fun, challenges, happiness and so much love. It’s about being there for the scraped knees, the big questions, the quiet bedtime cuddles, and everything in between. It’s about showing up, even when you’re tired or unsure. And through it all, your love helps your children feel secure, valued, and deeply connected.

There’s no perfect way to parent. What truly matters is the warmth, care, and attention you offer in those everyday moments. Small gestures like listening closely, sharing a laugh, or creating daily routines can have a powerful and lasting impact.

This Mother’s Day, I encourage you to take a moment to appreciate yourself. Acknowledge the emotional labour, the patience, and the sacrifices you make. Allow yourself to feel proud and cherished, not just by others, but by yourself. Even something as simple as enjoying a quiet cup of tea or catching up with a friend can go a long way in refilling your cup.

To all of our mums “thank you for everything that you do”. You are doing an amazing job. This Mother’s Day, may you feel appreciated, supported, and surrounded by love from your children, your families, our community, and from within.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Families SA put together lots of valuable resources. Here is one that is for our mums. It’s titled “Being a Mum”. I encourage you to have a read, there is valuable information and helpful tips in this brochure.

Take care and know I am here if you need support or just a chat along the way.
