Principal's Updates

Happy SASS Week

Last week we celebrated SASS Week by acknowledging the wonderful SASS team that we have here at Rydalmere Public School. The team is an integral part of all the amazing student achievement and school improvement we have seen here at Rydalmere Public School. On Tuesday for lunch the teaching staff provided lunch and on Thursday morning our P&C provided morning tea for the SASS team to show them our appreciation. Thank you for the work you do in supporting all our students, teachers and families here at Rydalmere.

Zone Athletics / PSSA League Tag

Congratulations to our talented athletes who competed in the Merrylands Parramatta Zone Athletics Championships. Many of our students were in more than one event and had a great day competing at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

We finally were able to make it out two games this term with a break from the rain!! Our junior team are currently in first place and our senior team are in third place. All the students are super keen every week and I am glad that we have been finally able to play. At the end of the season credit will be given to parents for the missed rounds due to wet weather.

Week 6 Results

Juniors – Rydalmere vs Parramatta East 11-0

Seniors Rydalmere vs Rydalmere East won 8-3

Week 7 Results

Juniors  Rydalmere vs Carlingford won 5-1

Seniors  Rydalmere vs Parrmatta North won 4-3

School Upgrades

New carpet and lino has been in stalled for different areas around the school, including the classrooms, preschool and administrative building.

Our oval is looking fantastic. Thanks to the gardening group 1853 who have now cleaned up a lot of the outskirts of the oval which has made it more manageable for Glenn and Pop. Students are enjoying the marked playing fields for league tag, soccer and now cricket.

Student Visitors

I love having students visit me to talk about and show me their wonderful work. Vishva, Naomi, Madison and Zeen were very excited to show me their persuasive writing. I was very impressed with their excellent use of paragraphs, time connectives and persuasive language. Thank you for visiting me and making my day!

Have a wonderful week.

Regards,

Mr Yee.

Swimming Program Information Note

Kindly read the following information only if your child is participating in the swim program.

Science in Stage 1: How Heat Changes Food!

Students have been exploring physical properties and learning how heat can change food. We’ve investigated how cooking can transform ingredients, like bread turning brown in a toaster or chocolate melting when warmed. Through hands-on activities, students observed how heating can change a food’s shape, texture and appearance. It’s been a fun and tasty way to learn about how materials respond to heat!

Camp Countdown: Medical Forms & Bus Times

We are getting closer to the excitement of the Great Aussie Bush Camp! Camp is always a highlight of the year, filled with fun, friendship, and new challenges for our students. To help us with final preparations, please ensure the medical form is completed and returned as soon as possible.

Bus times and final travel information will be sent home next week, so families can be well prepared. Thank you for your support in helping us stay organised, together we can ensure a smooth start to what will be an unforgettable camp experience.

Science in 4/5 Silver

In 4/5 Silver, students have been exploring the different states of matter. To wrap up the unit, they took part in a hands-on experiment making Oobleck! This fascinating Non-Newtonian Fluid behaves like a liquid when left alone but instantly transforms into a solid when force or pressure is applied. Students had a wonderful time testing how it changed under different conditions, discovering first-hand that science can be both surprising and a little messy! The experiment was an exciting way to bring together their learning about solids, liquids, and gases, while sparking curiosity about the unusual ways materials can behave.

Hello and greetings from the P&C!

Our Father’s Day Stall was held last week, we hope everyone was happy with their gifts and had a lovely day. Thank you to Mel McMurtry for planning and managing the stall. Thank you also to our volunteers who helped with the running of the stall: Kara Arnold, Kim-Chi Kim, Kate Reilly Casali, and Vivian Sham.

Last week, the P&C hosted an appreciation morning tea for our wonderful School Administration and Support Staff (SASS). Thank you to Kim-Chi Kim who provided delicious fruit trays and baked goods!

Colour Run planning is in full swing, and the fundraising efforts will kick off via a fundraising website at the end of this month. We will be raising funds for school resources. We'll share details on how to start fundraising via the website in due course.

There is still time to be a part of the planning, please email secretary@rps-pandc.org.au if you are interested. We'll make sure you're included in future planning meetings/email or text threads.

Do we have your email address? If you have attended a P&C Meeting but have not received the agenda or minutes via email, please reach out to secretary@rps-pandc.org.au so that we can make sure we have your current contact details on file.

Canteen Volunteers: We’re still looking for volunteers to help with the running of our canteen and to expand our volunteer base more generally. Without the support of parents, carers and community members, we would not be able to provide the canteen service for our students and staff at RPS.

Community Hub Events

Community Hub News

We hope this message finds you well as we near the end of what has been a lively and productive term at the Hub.

The past few weeks have been full of activity. One highlight was our recent eye clinic, which was a great success—nearly 90 students and 20 adults had their vision tested, supporting the wellbeing of our community. A big thank you to Mobileyes Optometric Clinic for making this possible.

Our first father's day celebration at the hub involved 11 fathers and father figures attending with their children. It was lovely to see excited children bonding with their father's and creating amazing crafts using cardboards, coloured sheets and sticky tapes.

Meanwhile, playgroup has been a hive of excitement, with therapists visiting regularly and our little excursion to preschool is scheduled for 17th of September. The barista course is in full swing, with participants learning to craft the perfect cup every Wednesday.

If you’ve been feeling concerned about your child’s language development, we invite you to join our playgroup on 24th September for a special session with our speech therapist.

This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, receive professional advice, and even book a free one-on-one consultation.

Spots are limited, so please make sure to register with Seetha as soon as possible to secure your place.

Crystal has been busy preparing our volunteers to ensure they’re ready to serve up warm drinks for our upcoming Grandparents’ Day celebration.

Be sure to mark your calendars for Friday, October 31st—it’s shaping up to be a heartwarming day filled with connection, laughter, and community spirit.

As always, your feedback is incredibly important to us. It plays a key role in shaping our programs to better support you and your family.

We’d greatly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete our annual survey (link below). Your thoughts and suggestions will directly influence our planning for the year ahead. https://forms.gle/Ja6kkeKek3QuQpaC6

We’re excited to share that OzHarvest is back with their fantastic cooking program for our community!

If you’re interested in learning how to stretch your food budget, prepare simple and healthy meals, and keep your food safe and fresh, be sure to sign up for the free six-week NEST (Nutrition Education and Skills Training) course.

Spots are limited and tend to fill quickly—so don’t miss out!

We look forward to seeing you at these events and programs—there’s something for everyone, so come along, join in, and be part of the fun!

I’m Seetha, the Community Liaison Officer at the Hub. I’m at school on Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri. The Hub is a welcoming space for parents to connect, make friends, and join activities. Pop in for a coffee and chat—I’d love to meet you! You can reach me on 0448 331 588 or seetha.srinivasan@det.nsw.edu.au.
