Term 2 Week 1 & 2: 30th April - 10th May 2024

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Term 2 Week 2

Welcome back for Term 2 2024. I also welcome our new families who have started at CBPS this term.

Anzac Day

Thank you to all the students and parents who represented our school at the Swansea RSL Anzac Day March and service. It is wonderful to see so many students, beautifully presented in uniform, paying respect to those who have served in the armed forces. This year I was particularly impressed by the Captain and Vice-Captain from Swansea High School who gave very meaningful and touching speeches about family members who serve in the military. Anzac Day is such an important part of our Australian culture we need to ensure that this tradition continues.

Mother’s Day

This Thursday the P&C will be holding a Mother’s Day stall and on Friday a Mother’s Day breakfast. Thank you to our hard-working P&C volunteers for their organisation and we hope our Mum’s and carers enjoy an amazing breakfast and time with their children at school.

 Drum Corp

Today we have commenced our Drum Corp program. Teachers have reported that students across the school have been enjoying Col Hatchett’s drumming expertise and are highly engaged and keenly participating in this program.

Upcoming Events

Week 2

  • Friday 10th May - Mothers Day Breakfast

Class of the Week

1H

1H have had a great start to Year One! We have been inspired by beautiful picture books and authors in our writing and art making and are focused learners during phonics lessons and reading groups.

We love to get sweaty brains during maths and explain our strategies in solving number problems.

We have had lots of fun in science exploring how forces make things move and we look forward to going to the computer lab each week to learn how to use programs such as Word and Paint.

Other School News

Anzac Day

Today, our school had the privilege of attending the Anzac march to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women. It was a solemn yet profoundly moving experience as we gathered to remember those who have served and continue to serve our country with unwavering bravery. Let us never forget their sacrifices and always hold their memory close to our hearts. Lest we forget!

Colour Run

What an incredible way to end the school term! The colour run on Friday was an absolute blast – running through bursts of vibrant colours was such a thrill! Huge thanks to our schools amazing parents in the P&C for organising this fantastic event and making our last day of term unforgettable!

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is HELPFULNESS.

Being helpful means to think of ways we can be of benefit in the classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show HELPFULNESS we use our SENSITIVE OCTOPUS and

WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because we feel rewarded and happy when we help someone.

 You can display HELPFULNESS by:

  • looking for opportunities to be useful; for example holding the door open for someone if they are carrying something
  • not waiting to be asked to help; such as lending a pencil to a friend if they have forgotten theirs

Set yourself a ‘Be of Benefit’ challenge today!

Environmental Group

The Enviro Group have started preparing our vegetable garden for winter. We have pulled out finished summer plants, weeded garden beds and planted seeds for our winter crops. Can you believe that the silverbeet we planted over a year ago is still producing beautiful leaves for us to pick? We have found a couple of surprise onions hiding in the garden too. These will go together well with the silverbeet to make a yummy frittata! We are now waiting eagerly for our seeds to sprout and can’t wait to watch them grow into little seedlings for us to plant in our garden. Happy gardening everyone!

Learning and Support

Introduction to understanding ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is defined as a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that affects the brain’s executive functioning and ability to self-regulate and control thoughts, words, actions and feelings.

What does inattention look like?

• often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities

• often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly

• often messy and disorganised

• often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli

• is often forgetful in daily activities

What does hyperactivity and impulsivity look like?

• often fidgety with hands or feet or unable to sit still

• often unable to play or engage in leisure activities quietly

• is often “on the go,” acting as if “driven by a motor”

• often talks excessively and blurts out an answer before a question has been completed

• often interrupts or intrudes on others

This is not an extensive list of indicators as it is normal for people to get distracted. When you have ADHD, your symptoms are persistent and will interfere with friendships, school and work. If you have concerns, see a doctor for a referral for a detailed assessment.

AN UPDATE ON THE PAST FEW MONTHS…

FAMILY PORTRAIT FUNDRAISER

Way back in March we did our family portrait fundraiser. We had 18 families take advantage of this wonderful event and we are pleased to announce we raised $400 for our school.

The photographer from Lasso Studios, Yvonne also surprised families who had pre photographed packages with a draw for a free photo package. The lucky winner was drawn live on our Facebook page earlier in the month.  Congratulations to Phillipa Campbell the winner of this free photo package.

LOOSE CHANGE CHALLENGE

We want to congratulate all of the wonderful students who gathered loose change for the Loose Change Challenge at the end of last term. These amazing little fundraisers raised a whooping $1983.65, so a huge thank you for their amazing efforts and to everyone who donated their loose change.

3/4B were the winners of the Loose Change  Challenge Pizza Party! These mighty fundraisers raised a enormous $407.90! We are so proud of their efforts, what a valuable skill to learn.

COLOUR RUN

On the last day of term the P&C hosted a Colour Run as a fun event for the kids to take part in. We envisioned a day of celebration and by the look on the children’s faces they had a blast. The children spent the morning running the obstacle course, being sprayed with colour powder and being hosed off as they sprinted past. This was topped off with an ice block and a surprise visit from the local fire service. A huge thank you to the crew for brightening our day even more.

To all of those who helped make this event a success, we can not thank you enough. Your time and energy does not go unnoticed and we thank you dearly 🙏.

CAKE STALL

Thank you to all of the wonderful parents and carers who baked and purchased items for the Cake Stall at Caves Beach Markets a few weeks ago. You will be pleased to know we raised an amazing $1320 from all of your delicious treats!

A special shout out to all of the wonderful helpers young and old who made the evening such a success. From creating such an eye catching stall, to making delicious sweet treats, to charming the bustling crowd, you did an amazing job of selling every last sweet delight. Not to mention collecting all of the details for the old school lolly jar guessing competition, You made this event a great success. Special thank you also to Coles for your $50 donation.

We appreciate everyone who came along to purchase our treats, we hope you enjoyed them as much as we did and we are grateful for your support!
