A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

A very warm welcome back to a new school year of learning and fun at Hallett Cove East Primary School. A special welcome to students and families joining our school for the very first time. We trust the start of the year and the transition to our school has been a calm and happy experience.

Annual General Meeting

Notice is given for the Annual General Meeting of Hallett Cove East Primary School:

Date: Tuesday 3rd March 2026 at 7pm

Venue: HCEPS School Resource Centre

Thinking of Joining Governing Council: Why Not?

Joining the Governing Council is a fantastic way for parents and caregivers to actively contribute to our school community. By becoming a council member, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with staff and fellow families, help shape the direction of Hallett Cove East Primary School, and ensure our students continue to thrive in a supportive and engaging environment. Your voice matters. Please consider joining the Governing Council to make a positive difference in our school. Meetings are held twice per term with options to join in person or through the online platform. I would very much welcome your nomination and would love to have a wide range of year levels and families represented. Please refer to the nomination form in this newsletter or collect a nomination form from the front office.

Acquaintance Night - Tuesday 10th February 5:30pm

We are looking forward to welcoming families to our annual Acquaintance Night on Tuesday 10th February. We will commence the evening in the school pavilion with a short message from the leadership team before children and families move off to classes to meet your child’s class teacher and other members of staff. Your child’s class teacher will provide you with a letter outlining classroom routines and expectations for 2026. This year we also have a prize draw for students who complete their passport and hand it in via the front office. To be in the draw, place your completed passport in the box at the front office.

Student – Parent – Teacher Learning Discussions

This year we are moving our learning discussion s to the end of term one. Previously these discussions were held at the end of term two. We have listened to the feedback of our community and hope by making this change, that parents and students are informed of learning progress earlier in the year. As always, you are welcome to contact your child’s class teacher with questions or concerns about their learning and progress.

Student Leadership

This week I have had the privilege of reading leadership applications from our year six students. All students have participated in a written application process and for those applying for the role of Lighthouse Leader, attended an interview also. I have been really impressed with the range of skills our students possess and the incredible contributions they are making through clubs, volunteering and community groups. Our school and the wider Hallett Cove community is in very good shape, given the caliber of young people in our school.

Volunteering at Hallett Cove East

Volunteering is a wonderful way to support our students, connect with staff, and strengthen our school community. Whether you can assist in the classroom, help with excursions, events, or lend a hand in other ways, every contribution is valued and makes a real difference to our school. We warmly welcome new volunteers and appreciate the skills, energy, and enthusiasm you bring to our community. If you are thinking about being a volunteer, please collect a volunteer pack from Nola in the front office.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear Hallett Cove East Primary School Community,

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you all back to school for the start of 2026. I hope the holidays were a time for rest, connection, and creating special memories with family and friends.

It has been a delight to see our students’ smiling faces in the yard and classrooms over the first two weeks. In particular, I wish a warm welcome to our new Reception children, and other new students and their families, who are joining our school community for the very first time. The Reception students have impressed us all with their enthusiasm, curiosity, and positive attitudes as they embark on their learning journey.

Starting school is a significant milestone for every child and parent. Over these first few weeks, students are building new friendships, learning new routines, and settling into classroom life. Our teachers and support staff are dedicated to ensuring all children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. Thank you to all our families for helping by encouraging independence as the children adapt to their new environment.

Crossing Monitor Training

All Year 4–6 students will participate in crossing monitor training on Monday, 9th February (Week 3). This important training session is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to safely and responsibly assist fellow students and members of the community at school crossings. Participation in this program is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their sense of responsibility and contribute positively to school safety. Please ensure students arrive punctually and are prepared for this valuable experience.

Swimming Reception- Year 4

Swimming lessons for students in Reception to Year 4 will be taking place this term in Week 9. These lessons provide an invaluable opportunity for students to develop their water safety skills and confidence in the water. Further information, including specific dates, times, and requirements, will be provided closer to the start of the program. Please stay tuned for additional details.

We look forward to a year full of wonderful learning, growth, and successes together. Please remember, if you have any questions or concerns as the term progresses, our doors are always open. We value the partnership with families in supporting each child’s wellbeing and academic progress.

Wishing everyone a positive and productive year ahead

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

Deputy Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR STUDENT WELLBEING LEADER

Wellbeing Corner – Welcome to 2026

As we begin the 2026 school year, we want to share how wellbeing continues to sit at the heart of everything we do at Hallett Cove East Primary School.

The first few weeks of school have been a busy and important time. Classrooms have been focused on establishing routines, clarifying expectations, building connections, and strengthening relationships. This intentional start helps students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn - setting everyone up for a positive and successful year ahead.

School Values and Student Voice

Across the school, students have been engaging in values brainstorming around Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, and Excellence, exploring what these values look like, feel like, and sound like in action. This work is helping to create a shared, student-led language around expectations for behaviour, learning, and relationships.

Wellbeing in Action

Below are two key visuals that reflect our shared wellbeing approach:

  • the Wellbeing @ HCEPS infographic, which shows how wellbeing is supported across the school through shared language, routines and practises, targeted supports, and partnerships with families
  • our Conflict vs Bullying poster, which helps students, staff, and families share a clear and consistent understanding of how we support relationships and respond to concerns.

Introducing the Wellbeing Hub Website

This year, we’re excited to introduce our new Wellbeing Hub website, designed to support consistency between home and school. The site includes shared language, practical strategies, and resources to support student wellbeing at school and at home.

👉 Wellbeing Hub website: https://sites.google.com/halcoveeps.sa.edu.au/hcepswellbeinghub/home

This website will continue to grow and evolve over time. On the homepage, families will find a QR code inviting them to share ideas about information, topics, or resources they would find helpful. We’d love your input as we build this space together.

 Shared Wellbeing Language

Across the school, students continue to engage with:

  • The Resilience Project (Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness)
  • Zones of Regulation, supporting emotional awareness and self-regulation

You may hear students talking about GEM chats or Zones- this shared language helps create consistency across classrooms and year levels.

More information will be shared soon about how we’ll be celebrating diversity, inclusion, and belonging across our school community.

We’re looking forward to a year of connection, growth, and learning together in 2026.

Warmest wishes,

Katrina Leucuta

STUDENT WELLBEING LEADER  (Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday)

A FEW WORDS FROM THE BUSINESS MANAGER

Welcome to the 2026 School Year.
